More About Layton: Diabolical Box in HD

“There are tales of a box that brings death upon any who dare open it. Tell me, do you think those rumors could be true?”
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box is the second installment of the popular Professor Layton Series, digitally remastered in HD for mobile devices.

Professor Layton, the world-renowned archeologist, and his trusty assistant Luke have tackled some of the toughest mysteries in the world. When Dr. Andrew Schrader, Professor Layton’s friend and mentor, inexplicably passes away upon taking possession of the mysterious Elysian Box, the only clue left behind is a ticket for the opulent Molentary Express. Layton and Luke embark on a voyage of discovery, unaware of the extraordinary twists and turns that await them.

Featuring a distinctive artistic style that brings the old-world charm of the Layton Series to life, this delightful adventure will have you traveling into the unknown alongside Professor Layton and Luke. Look out for familiar faces, but don't be surprised if you encounter new blood, too.

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box brings together more than 150 brain teasers, including slide puzzles, matchstick puzzles, and even trick questions to flex players’ observation, logic, and critical thinking skills. Easy to understand gameplay. Lots of puzzles. Great mystery. The Professor Layton games are some of my absolute favorite games. Totally worth the money! I can't wait for rest of the series to be put on mobile.

Plays like the game on the old Nintendo system, but enhanced. Fun puzzle game, and wonderful characters. Level 5 makes such charming and fun games.

A blast from the past. Loved doing these puzzles as a kid, and enjoyed it even more as an adult. Great puzzles really gets your brain pumping. A required game amongst avid puzzle lovers

Various glitches make the game almost impossible to play. The name screen doesn't come up, inputting text or numbers screens for puzzles don't come up and the home button on my phone will overlay over buttons needed to continue .

It WILL NOT INSTALL on my phone, nor my Sons phone (we both own the Samsung A12). Curiously, Layton and the Curious Village installed on this phone. This is a GREAT game, but I can't give it a good rating if I can't even download it. I've tried resetting, freeing up space, a hard reboot of the phone, nothing. Same every time, I pressed the Install button, it gets to 100%, then I get the can't install message. If you all can help, thank you.

Just like the DS version! I own both curious village and diabolical box on DS, but I was having issues with my DS dying constantly (it's like, 10 years old and I played it a lot) and it's great to have these games coming to mobile! But I do have to wonder, are they going to do Unwound Future? If so, I'm super excited!

Very good experience with a great story and some difficult puzzles at the end. It's nice to have a mobile game that isn't filled with micro transactions and doesn't make my brain go numb

A great game with a lot of fun puzzles and collectibles. I really enjoyed the whole tea set aspect it was cute. It has a great plot with tons of mysteries, and the ending is definitely a twist. It was worth the $10.

I love these games and only have the first 2 installments on my DS and can't play them anymore which always made me sad. And then the idea that one day in the distant future my DS's and cartridges will break and I won't be able to aquire new ones... Yes I'm dramatic. But now you can understand my joy at suddenly learning that they're being released as apps!! The games have transfered for well into app form and everything is just as addictive and satisfying as I remember. I'm beyond thrilled

Professor Layton was one of my favorite series growing up and I was thrilled to see they've got the first two installments available on the play store. It's a cute little story, wonderful art, and the puzzles are all fun and challenging. I hope they release more in the future.

As a big fan of the series, these mobile ports are a dream come true. The single downside of this version is that the DS game came with a print out of the ticket that really helped with a puzzle, everything else here is perfect and I loved revisiting this series.

The puzzles are tiny on the phone screen and no zoom. The fourth puzzle, for example, has you looking around an office to identify something strange, but the office is only shown on a small portion of the lower half of the screen. The objects scattered around the room are all so small that you can't tell what most of them are. I used all three hints, and the third one should make it obvious, but I can't identify any object in the office that "normally comes in pairs". Just uninstalled.

I agree with the reviews saying the long dialogue and cutscenes are annoying ^^' it's also super hard to get to a point where you can pause, as a result. I don't have the time or patience for this unfortunately. Plus never played this before as a kid so no nostalgia is keeping me here. the puzzles are cute tho

1. I hate pixel perfect spot the difference camera mini game. 2. Puzzles are mistranslated making them literally unsolvable, such as puzzle 139, where it says,"Point B is 3 hours earlier than Point A" when it is supposed to say, "Point A is 3 hours earlier than Point B" 3. The tea mini game is random and nonsensical with no real indication for what to do for a quarter of the recipes.

These games look and play just as good on my phone as they did on my DS! I hope they port more of these fantastic DS games to android! I still use my DS because there were so many pheomenal replayable classics, like the Castlevania and Zelda titles, The World Ends With You, Ghost Trick, Okami, etc..But I rarely bring it with me, whereas I ALWAYS have my phone handy! The Prof.Layton games are perfect for quick phone fun, its so easy to start up for a puzzle or 2 when you have a few minutes free!

These are puzzles I love to share with others. The story is a charming vessel in getting to them. It feels good collecting these puzzles through different means. Unlike my first playthrough as s child, I actually completed all the minigames, including that stupid tea one! Its a great game unless you want to 100% it, then it'll make you cry.

Superbly done port! Great graphics, fun almost frenchy soundtrack, charming characters, a wonderful whimsical storyline and of course, pleasantly perplexing puzzles, all wrapped up into one affordable package for on the go? It'd be... *ahem* puzzling if you decided NOT to pick this up? ;) In all seriousness, whether you're a veteran Layton fan or have never played a game in the franchise before, you'll be satisfied with this game. Dive right in: you won't be disappointed ;)

This game is just as amazing as the ds version. However, there is one big problem; you can't beat it. The last puzzle of the game the phone is unequipped for. I know what I have to do, but it can't be done with a phone. I'm sad that the developers did not take this one thing into account when making this great game app... EDIT: nevermind. They changed the last puzzle up on everybody. It is beatable, so don't give up!

I was hesitant until now due to the review describing the last puzzle as unbeatable, but that's now been fixed. I lost my copy of this game years ago, and all the ones I've seen listen online are exuberantly expensive. I'm grateful for the developers putting it up on the store. It was even more gut wrenching playing as an adult with romantic baggage than it was as a kid.

Fun game with challenging puzzles. I play a lot of these kind of games, and most end up being either uninteresting or too easy - and this is neither. Also, there's a good ratio of game-play to videos of action scenes. If I could have 1 wish for improvement, it would be to allow players to zoom in on the images. I played this game on a Galaxy 23Ultra, and still occasionally had difficulty seeing tiny puzzle details. I had a hard time putting it down, and will be downloading the other 2 games!
