Mostly fine, though reliability could be improved by implementing an "offline mode" via a local cache for all data, including for pre-trip inspection prior to successful upload. More bizarrely, yesterday this app used 107MB of cell data in about 5 minutes when all I did was look up my vehicle reservation. I pay $0.01/MByte for cell data, so just this simple operation cost me $1.07 since I couldn't get on wifi. This is crazy, since there wasn't 107MB of data to transfer: just 1 photo + some text.

Had to update! So tired of zipcar and their new policy's. I've been a loyal customer for 6 years and just seems to get worse and worse as a service! Looking to get a car! (Older review) Not enough cars available as prices are getting kinda high, might as well get a car from a car rental agency. Bad customer service. More than enough times I've had problems with picking up the car. Just not what it use to be. And I'm being nice with 3 stars.

user-friendly, intuitive interface that allows you to make changes to your reservation on the fly. some users might be bothered by how certain functions, like the "edit reservation" function are in the sub-menus but i recognize that layering keeps us from changing or canceling by accident. the only recent change i dislike is the horizontal display of available cars. i find the vertical list more efficient so i always opt for it by tapping "list" but i think it should just be the default.

Love the service, but the app is super buggy. When starting my rides, it often does not offer me a check-in prompt to evaluate condition of car. If it does, it will randomly delete all of the photos I've taken midway through the check-in. At the end of my drive, the app will usually not allow me to end the ride because the "ignition is on" despite the car being totally off. It's now become routine to call support and have them remotely end my trip (again, without opportunity to take photos).

Card doesn't work anymore. Asks to take 6 photos of the car before unlocking it first. 6 from all sides! In a tight space of a New York City garage where the staff usually wants me out ASAP. Now if I back out of the picture taking screen, the app asks if I want to skip taking pictures, but unfortunately, when I choose to skip, it doesn't let me. Ending my session - same thing with the photos. Great waste of my time. Also can't imagine if my phone breaks or loses charge during the trip.

The interface is really not great. It's a lot easier to modify searches and adjust settings on the website. Also, there should be a way to set a radius and specific days/times both at once. Currently you can either search an area for "available now" or you can search by specific times but not both. On top of that, we were reassigned to a car in dontown Manhattan after booking a car in Brooklyn. There is no way I'm driving near Times Square! There should also be options of how to handle that.

Sometimes cars are dirty and time is needed to clean them which takes away from your paid time and they dont also credit you for that. Also got a camera ticket for 50 dollars and they charged a 30 processing fee. I had no problem paying the fine but 30 processing fee is ridiculous. Over all the accessibility of the car is what gives it 4 stars.

At first, I loved this app! Then I made a mistake of booking for one hour and my time was up and I wnt reload my time and was locked out with my belongings inside! I called for support only to be locked out of the app. Long story short, the car was towed, and the charges were sent to me. A $45 dollar rental is $417. Whenever an app answers the phone with option 1 to cancel membership. DON'T JOIN

Convenient way to quickly grab a car and run errands for those that live in urban areas. App can be buggy and design of app could be improved to make it easier. Cars tend to be just a bit dirtier or beat up than I expected, but maybe I should have assumed. Overall, still a convenient option and app works.

Love the service. Only complaint is the security feature that mysteriously lock the car, and you need to lock and unlock with the app. Almost missed an important flight as a result of not being able to start the car. Had a bad cell signal, so calling support took a long time. I think the feature would be better replaced with tracking or something. It creates way too many opportunities for disaster. Other than that, I love Zipcar!

Customer service is suck. The worst thing is that while the system is buggy, the efficiency of resolving problem is very low. I just want to change my phone number cuz I can't receive the verification code with the old one, but 3 weeks have passed, there is no updates. End up I delete the account and pay another $25 application fee for a new account, and even had no chance to drive once with the old one.

Don't do it. The rates are high. They change the prices in real-time while on the app. They have promotions for just a couple of days to try to encourage you to rent more often. It's a good concept but they definitely take advantage of those are not credentialed enough to rent from a traditional rental company. They charge you a membership but you don't get any memer savings. The price that they try to charge for 1 day you could get a 3 day rental from a rental company. Definitely not worth it.

I've a Zip Car vet from way back but lost track of this resource up until recently. The membership packages are flexible. May be pricier than public transit or rideshare (but not as expensive as renting a car) but worth it just to have another option if you don't have your own car. You get a quicker response with issues from chatting than calling. I miss having physical keys/keycards. Lost my phone or had it stolen too many times not to. But otherwise, it's a well kept secret for most people.

Zipcar might be fine if you live somewhere with parking garages and lots, but it's terrible if you live in a city like Brooklyn where there's only street parking. Their cars are rarely where the app says they are. I've spent up to an hour looking for the car I rented, and I was being charged for that hour! They also have bad customer service, and misleading or just wrong info on their site about tolls.

Absolute trash, please rather go to the filthiest local car rental if you want less stressful rental. Zipcar prices are anyway not cheaper. Now to the app: Bluetooth usually doesn't connect to the car, so you find yourself standing with all your gear, freezing fingers and cranky partner in front of the car. Now you think they have call center support for that? 15min queue even with priority access while you're on a trip after identifying you with phone number and drivers license. HORRIBLE!!!

I have had some issues, but customer service was able to resolve. Highly recommend that you request a physical ZipCard to lock and unlock the car, so you aren't reliant on the app. That said, last trip my car was changed last notice, and then the card reader was glitchy so I was never quite sure I'd be able to get back in? But I'm writing this review so clearly I didn't die in the forest somewhere. Overall it's worth it to have access to a car that I only need 3-4 times a year at most.

Don't bother. I had to cancel 4 trips do to issues on their end. I had a car that didn't respond to the app, a car with a sunroof that was stuck open, a car with broken AC, and finally a car get cancelled last minute when I went to pick it up without them even notifying me before I showed up to get it. I literally saw someone else drive the car away, too. Absolutely scummy business and they clearly don't take care of the cars.

They will change the prices on you within a second that you're booking. The prices are one price when you look at it during booking and then if you click out of the page accidentally and come back, they change the prices higher. This is horrible and not good for someone who books with then frequently. They're expensive too. I started off 85/a day and now it's 120 and more a day. Not good

This is an amazing way for people to get around. The app is so intuitive and easy to use, customer care a breeze and very supportive but sometimes the wait is a little too much. Except for user errors, and may be sometimes vehicle faults, the best anyone could ask for, for renting cars for short periods. One negative is not enforcing the parking spaces strictly. Anyone can take those spaces and it's tough to return the cars to their home locations. Other than that, no complains.

Terrible experience with zipcar. NEVER AGAIN. And it was only my 2d time, as giving them another chance. The fuel card DOES NOT WORK!! Had to pay out of pocket, completely misleading their clients. There was no mention that the car was hybrid. Attempted to turn on the car after I had left it in a parking and it wouldn't turn on. Tried calling customer service, couldn't reach before 50 minutes! I am wasting my money with this company
