The ads are ridiculous. The game-play is fun, but the ads open 2 windows each, draining my battery. Some ads are deceptive, indicating the game needs an update, when it then takes you to the play store to download a NEW game. I suspect the FTC will address this deceptive practice in the next 5 years. I understand that games need ad revenue to survive, but 1-2 ads after every level is terrible. I looked into pay-to-play, but it doesn't say how long $9.99 covers. A month? A year?

The game is great to start, but as you progress, the puzzles are repetitive. The vocabulary the game uses is also limited, and every so often, there is a required update that is full of bugs. There is also a way to pay in order to opt out of ads. This is false advertising as a pop-up will happen where you go to click on a link, but the ad started, and you're in the pay screen instead of the option you wanted.

Way too many ads. Ads during every level, ads after every level, ads in the menu, there is literally no way to enjoy this game unless you love getting bent over and railed by ads every 30 seconds. Edit: if you're working to find the right "balance" let me give you a hint. It's not getting booty blasted by ads constantly! I just got 4 ads within the span of 45 seconds, that is beyond mindblowingly stupid, greedy, and game ruining.

The dictionary is limited, and words are often misspelled (i.e. lept, instead of leapt), and the definitions are often wrong. They use Wiktionary as a dictionary, and it's unreliable at best. Also, sometimes they use the same word twice, but it won't accept it twice, so you can't finish the puzzle unless you have the game fill it in for you. But it's fun, and I can't say I've not spent a ton of hours randomly playing. Also, it's easy to put down and come back to, and the animals are fun.

What happened to Wordscapes? I played it a while back and it was a fun puzzle game. Now I've paid for the no ad experience, yet they have all these stupid mini games inside. I don't need side quests, I just want the puzzle. And I still consider it advertising to me when you try to get me to buy upgrades and packages. I PAID YOU FOR THE APP....leave. me. Alone!

This spelling game used to be nice and relaxing (I paid for ad free.) Now the game is bloated with competitions and reward systems, so the screen is cluttered. To win also forces you to play puzzles as fast as possible. I just want to make words on a pretty background. I don't want to collect profile pics, photos, egg animals, crowns, etc...

I used to love this game. I got through every level and have started over for my second time around. But the ads have gotten to be far too many and some are running quite a bit longer and when you tap the X to close it, sometimes it repeats all over again. And what's with all the dang updates now??? It's just getting to be too annoying to play anymore. I think I'll just delete it find something else. It was good while it lasted.

I have loved this game for years and have played over 17,500 levels. HOWEVER, it has been COMPLETELY OVERRUN by ads! If you want to take advantage of any special features, you must often sit through 3-4 minutes worth of ads. Also, the ads will sometimes hang so badly, that you must close and re-open the program, often losing rewards which you have earned in the process. And the problem is not my phone, as it is a new Pixel 8 Pro, one of the most up-to-date and powerful phones on the market.

From 5 to 3 stars and falling. The endless ads are annoying, albeit necessary. What isn't necessary is the ad that plays, gives you an "x" to close it, only to be directed to another ad of the same thing that has a timer on it before an "x" to close pops up, and then to top off everything else when you first try to close it you are directed to the play store to download the game. Find a way to go back to limited ads, like every 5th game and then all would be fine again.

This was one of my longest played and favorite games. It had a relaxing feel and, in spite of a few too many animations and bells and whistles, the basic game play was always excellent. Unfortunately they have added a persistent animation at the bottom of the screen that nags your attention to try and force you into purchasing something. It has destroyed the peaceful feeling. I'm sadly going to have to uninstall it. I wish developers could leave a good thing alone :'(

Way too many ads!!! Used to play this game years ago and the ads were much more reasonable. Now there is one for every puzzle and most of them you have to click on the tiny X three times to get through them. The X is so small you often miss and it opens up the play store or some web page. There are also constant pop ups in the game trying to get you to buy stuff. Used to be worth the limited ads for a fun free game, not worth it any more.

This game is literally the ONE & ONLY phone game that I've ever been addicted to! Like I'm in love with this game but twice now I've had to clear my cache due to bugs & have lost ALL my progress/animals & its beyond disappointing 😔 I've spent countless hours hatching & collecting animals just to lose them regardless of saving my progress! So hey wordscapes can we please fix this??!!! Cuz this game is the ONLY game I dont get bored of but if Im never able to progress in the game whats the point?

Played this a few years ago. Reinstalled it, and it's completely awful now. There's all sorts of gimmicky nonsense now, like pet care (needs a schedule) and the need to "quest" to collect parts to perform basic functions in the game. The UI is jammed full of this stuff. It looks like it was designed by someone with untreated severe ADHD. Also, the ads are out of control. They even serve an ad for opening the app. This is the opposite of "chill word puzzle" now. Stay far away!

this game by itself is super fun. the word puzzles are challenging and its a great way to make time go by. however, the ads are just absurd. i get 15 second unskippable ads CONSTANTLY. anytime i close and reopen the app (like to reply to a message) or even swipe down my notification bar, i get another ad. just now i got 2 ads back to back because i finished a game and left to respond to a friend, so i got an ad for leaving AND for completing a level. its just absurd.

I have to adjust my review from 2018. Uninstalled the game a while back when I got bored with it and decided to download it again. The ads are out of control. If you even try to view what notifications you have, you get an ad. If you lock your phone for even a few seconds, you get an ad. If you try to look at settings, you get an ad. I messaged them about one ad in particular showing a game with gross skin conditions (zits, worms, boils, etc.) and I was told they would look into it and nothing.

Edit April 2024: WAY TOO MANY UPDATES REQUIRED!! I'm sick of it. New one every month it seems, and I don't like all the new games-within-the-game...collecting items, challenges, etc. I miss the original version. Original review: Addictive! I don't mind the ads, most are pretty short. I love the challenge of coming up with so many words with so few letters, makes me think! A few have stumped me, but I got them eventually, and then I feel like doing a little happy dance, lol.

Five stars for being engaging and enjoyable and keeping my interest over time. The developers have done a nice job on the game, they continue to add features, and they earned my one-time payment. No more ads. So much more enjoyable. Minus a star for the portrait events being impossible to complete. Minus another for voluntary ads playing with sound even though the app has sound turned off.

The ads have gone to a whole new level of annoying. Now when you complete a puzzle, the game immediately plays an ad. And if you quit the game and open the app back up, you will not be credited with the rewards from completing the puzzle you just completed. You are forced to watch the ad to be rewarded for the puzzle you have already completed. Absolutely ridiculous.

Doesn't work most of the time on knockoff s24 ultra. Starts to load and then drops out of memory. Sometimes with the error that the app has stopped responding. Most of the time it just simply disappears and goes back to the home screen. For what the game is it shouldn't be lagging so hard even on such a low-end device like this one. For example Bloons TD 6 runs just fine and this game is just making words out of letters. I'm assuming it's rather unoptimized.

It's generally a fun game, but lately it's difficult to enjoy. Ever since I reached about level 2800, it takes a minimum of 4 full minutes to reach the opening screen. Then while trying to play, there are severe delays in recognizing actions. It is acting as if there are background actions such as loading advertising. I also get the "not responding" error several times each game session. I believe it is time to find another similar game.
