Great news, terrible navigation. The ny times is one of the best news organizations in the world and their reporting is top notch. The app is generally good with one critical problem: after you read a story the only way to get to the next article is to go up which then scrolls to the top and reloads the whole page. It's a mess. In addition, this appears to have been designed primarily for iOS with some hacky adjustments for Android. Do better!

The app functions well and the formatting for small screen use is excellent. Various media seem to function well most of the time. My pet peeve that I don't like is when you open a picture you have to back out and close it by clicking an arrow in the upper left, which seems to be idiosyncratic to this app. Integration with their website for this subscription via GPlay is poor.

The app gets better with each update but I've been unable to gift articles through the app for the past month. It used to just be unresponsive when I'd tap the icon. I updated the app and now it gives me an error. I guess that is progress? I also wish they'd fix their link with Facebook. Also, there's no persistent login between the two platforms. I have to click on the article and hit pay wall, then open the story in the system browser...for EVERY damn article I want to read! What a hassle.

update: this has gone from bad to worse. i can't even open articles anymore. at least it used to just hang, crash and kill my battery. without question, the worst application I've ever seen. With most recent updates this is horrible. It uses a ton of battery, hangs for seconds at a time and will periodically start playing media at high volume. We will likely cancel our subscription if it doesn't get fixed fast as it's close to impossible to really read with this.

Anytime you go back from a story you have to wait several seconds while most of the screen blanks out and flickers up and down a few times while it does a refresh. Very very annoying. Come on nyt, that's a horrible user experience, why is that even a 'feature'? We don't need an updated page everytime we touch something, if we want to update with latest news we know how to do it. Look at Google News - smooth and solid. Please make this work properly and get rid of that awful auto refresh thing.

I installed the app to get push notifications when important stuff happens, but that was a mistake. Clearly my definition of "important" is quite different than the Times'. I don't need a push notification every single time anyone who ever lived dies. Also don't need a notification when a symphony conductor in San Francisco quits his job. I can't help but wonder if the good folks at the Times are in touch with anyone not living in a Manhattan brownstone?

I use the nytimes app for reading articles instead of using the website because it has a night mode setting. That said, the app has some serious issues. Sometimes it can't find stories when you navigate there from the browser. It crashes frequently. The tabs sometimes just don't load when you click on them. My biggest complaint, by far, is that when you're reading an article, your location in it is reset to the top if you turn off or rotate your screen. This is super annoying. The app has LOTS of issues that need to be fixed. However, the reporting continues to be good and worth the annoyance.

Doesn't connect well with social media apps. I originally subscribed because I was constantly running out of my free articles every month - articles I was finding on social media. But I still can't just click on an article and read it. I have to log in every time and that would be fine if it would let me. Either it says either my email or password is incorrect (it's not) or that the app doesn't meet security standards. I can open the app and search the article but this is stupid and fixable.

I keep trying the app every year or so. It's just not as good as a browser. Getting back to the home page is sometimes multiple clicks. There are sections that are missing (eg, in the browser I can go to Sports, then go to "Tennis", or in the Well section I can go to "Mind" or "Family"). It's just not up to par. Chrome will continue to be my NYT Reader for now.

My favorite news app by far. The writing is fantastic. I do have one complaint. over the year, my subscription pays for less and less content as nyt keeps breaking out subsections like)sports and cooking for example) and then require additional fees to access it again. So in short, great content getting overshadowed by corporate greed. Shame on you NYTs

A well designed app, generally works without any glitches. Sometimes graphics will glitch occasionally, but I've noticed it less and less in the past year or so. Times journalism is also very high quality. Almost always at the forefront of important and breaking news. Of course, always be aware of bias and double check stories across multiple sources for the fullest picture.

I really like this app that the good folks at the Times work hard to provide and support. It would just be nice if All-access subscribers could get Spelling Bee hints to open in a new window instead of "backbrowsing (My word. I said it first!)" 2 or 3 screens before being able to reaccess puzzle. 'Hints' can be forgotten by then! Otherwise a wonderful app the Times has shown a clear commitment to! A valuable complement to the Paper!

This app desperately needs a home button. It's frustrating to have to click back through a lot of articles after having read them just to get back to the front headlines page. Also the background downloading of articles generally doesn't work. There have been plenty of times when I've been on flights with no WiFi and when I open this app only a paltry few if any articles have been downloaded for offline reading. Even if it were to work there's no option to download only when on a charger.

Great content but poor app. No cooking section in Sections tab. Got to sign up for sports and cooking separately, what a pain. Too many clicks to play a game, why can't app take you to the game with single touch? I am not making a life decision that a confirmation is needed. Back from spelling bee hints to get to spelking bee is multiple clicks. Getting to crosswords and mini archives is a pain. I can't find old wordle anywhere. Stories could be organized better to easily browse.

Generally works well, but alerts in my Android phone's pull-down don't work well. When there are multiple NYT alerts with an arrow/pull-down showing, it's almost impossible to actually pull it down to show all the alerts. If you miss it, all the alerts go away, and you're just pushed to the NYT app home page. Many times, the specific story you were seeking is buried. Annoying!

App has gone downhill in recent incarnations. The best thing about this app as a NYC resident is that offline content is frequently updated. Recently, however, more and more of what appears to be offline content lags or seems to require an internet connection. I'm still giving it four stars for content. Points off for ease of offline use declining. Update: everything noted above has gotten worse. So 5 stars for content and 1 star for ease of use

Neither of my tablets is able to load your newest app. The required operating systems are unreasonably new, in my opinion. Android 10 (4 1/2 years out), and especially IOS 16 (released 11/2022), will not not load on many working devices. This lack of backward compatibility is a profound disregard for those who don't buy each new iPhone in order to put last year's model in the trash. I expected more from a paper with a Climate Desk.

I've enjoyed the NYT app for years, but have considered letting it go for the past year or so, as the headlines become more sensational and the content less original. I understand all news media is trying to grab and hold attention, but I miss the days when the Times felt more like a true source for reliable reporting. Particularly important this election cycle and with the current global climate.

I love the actual writing and journalism by the New York Times but when the app doesn't actually work it's a little frustrating. About half the time I open an article or a game I get a pop-up asking me to subscribe for access. The thing is, I'm already a monthly all-access subscriber and the subscription is definitely current. I shouldn't have to do my own troubleshooting on a daily basis for access to a service I'm paying for. Hopefully the developers come up with a solution soon.

Don't buy this from Google Play. I paid for all access from Android, but subscription info is not passed on to NYT, and it only works from this App. Contacted NYT support, and they said subscription is not showing, and I needed to resolve it with Google Play. Contacted Google Play, and they said they cannot do anything because it's the app developer's problem. So much waste of time. I asked for refund and hope they do.
