More About SunSmart Global UV

Protect yourself when the UV is at damaging levels with the SunSmart Global UV app.
Powered by world leading health, radiation and weather organisations, the app provides worldwide UV levels and clear guidance as to when sun protection is and is not required.

Travelling and spending time outdoors is one of life’s great joys. Knowing when sun protection is recommended wherever you are in the world gives you confidence to enjoy the sun safely, minimizing the risk of skin damage which can lead to cancer.

The SunSmart Global UV app takes the guesswork out of being safe in the sun with daily sun protection times sent to your phone along with simple advice for protecting your skin.

***What are sun protection times?***
Sun protection times are linked to the UV Index and are advised when the UV is forecast to be 3 and above. This is consistent with the WHO UV Index guidance and has been determined as the level at which damage to the skin is likely to occur more quickly.

The app will advise you that sun protection is required during specific times when the UV is forecast to be 3 and above so that you can adequately protect your skin.

***How is it different to other UV apps?***
The UV app has the backing of world-leading health and meteorological organisations making it a trusted and reliable source of advice.

Unlike other apps, the SunSmart Global UV app is designed to simply inform users when sun protection is required and when it is not.

***What are the key features?***
- Daily UV levels for the local area including sun protection times
- 5-day forecast including UV and weather forecast
- Access to the forecast UV and sun protection times anywhere in the world

Echoing the other feedback.... the interface where uv time is indicated by an active time block (rather than daily uv prediction/ tracking including when it will be the highest) is really unhelpful. I can tell the time! I don't need the app to show me visually what 9.10am-4pm looks like lol. The information presented by the ARPANSA tracker is much more useful. A widget would also be great.

A smart and usefull app. One small issue though, I did not find a way to remove a location. It seems that either only adding locations is possible or I can't find a button for that. Uninstalling and installing again does the trick.

Love this app. I use it daily. I've rated it 5 stars because it does what it says it will do. What I would love to see added as a feature however is an option to enter when you last applied sunscreen and an alert for when you need to reapply. Preferably broken down by area of the body as I generally do my face first thing when I'm getting ready in the morning regardless and other areas later if I'm going out in the UV period.

App has suddenly started giving inaccurate readings saying a maximum 0.3 for over a week. Often will get readings of 0.0 while others are reading 2.7 in the same area. I have just uninstalld and reinstalled to try and rectify the situation.

Well at least the UV alert notifications are working now, all of a sudden, so well done for that, but alert location so far hasn't managed to get mine right most of the time, instead most of them are some random suburb. FYI the app is set to my suburb and has location permission.

The recent changes seem great especially the UV Alert but so far theAlert doesn't come until AFTER the period of high UV is over 🥴 Also I've been caught twice when I unintentionally lost internet connection and didn't realise and this App just seemed to display the last known UV at my location rather than saying lost connection!! Dangerous..... I wanted an alert to pop up to let me know when the UV IS at or above a certain point at my location.

I have to give it a 2 star review after this new upgrade that makes it impossible to add my location in the United States. For NY State there is only New York city that is available or Canada. NY State has other cities that I want to pick from for location. I use this app all the time and the fact that I can not continue with more accurate location is disappointing. I have the newest phone and GPS location turned on.please fix the problem. I love this app and would like to use it again

Have been using the app religiously for years across multiple phones. In the last several months, it's consistently taking longer to load and having errors connecting to the server to update. The last week it has barely worked.

5 months later and this app still hasn't been sorted. Having location issues just like one of the other users reported in August last year. Downloaded this app because of an advertisement. What a wast of company resources when the app doesn't even work properly.

Deleted app within 5 minutes of installing. It is impossible to manually add locations without it freezing and an error popping up. The only way you see the UV index is to allow it access to your location, and then you're only able to see 'nearby locations'. Better off using the BOM site or app.

MORE FUNCTIONALITY PLEASE. When I saw the reports that this was the best UV app, I really expected more functionality. They tell you when the UV is 3 or higher and what the highest point would be during that day, but that's it. I will go back to using UV Lens, because with that app, you can click on any time of the day and find out what the UV will be at that hour, and plan your day around it. Please get more functionality and I may revisit.

An okay app, and yes, UV alerts are working. However, there is a glitch with these alerts. I have had the alerts set for Mon to Thurs at 8 am only, but they are coming through every day. I try to update the days or turn the alerts off completely, and I just get a message 'something went wrong' come up.. Otherwise, the App does what I need it to do, and that is tell me the uv rating for at that time and for the day..

This app is perfect and does exactly what it says - provides information and updated alerts about the status of UV and temperatures in selected locations. I just reported one thing that is kind of a bug -the app doesn't understand when it's getting information from it's sources in Celsius or Fahrenheit so it makes it difficult to view locations using them together - I'm sure they will fix that soon

This app is pretty good but it doesn't serve the needs of people who need it most. I get skin cancers and have to cover up when the UV is over 1, but the app doesn't allow me to customise alerts so that I know when to protect myself, giving me no option other than the alerts that sound when UV is at 3. other than that, the interface is pretty intuitive, you can set several locations and the info is displayed clearly.

Far from anywhere in the world - I am not sure if this is an actual oversight or just a temporary technical issue, but a pretty big area of my country (Romania) seems to not be covered at all. For an app that markets itself with a slogan containing "anywhere in the world", this is hardly acceptable. Until the issue is fixed, I consider my rating indulgent.

Notifications only seem to work when I set a custom time, where I get the normal notification for recommended protection as well as the custom time one, if I disable custom time I get no notifications, other than this major annoyance it works well.

I only started using this today. [Temperature issue fixed when I woke up this morning so yay! Thank you.] I'm not sure if the timeframe when the UV is worst is accurate since the sun is up almost 24 hours at the moment. Interior Alaska is hot in the summer and part of the Northern Hemisphere. I'm going to try it longer and see what data I can get from other sources to compare.

Used this app regularly while living in the UK. Recommended to friends and family (especially older family who don't habitually wear sunscreen) and thought only downside was that there was no widget. However, since moving to Taipei, I have found that despite being advertised as a "Global" app, Taiwan is not included. Even if you use your device location to try to get UV data, the app incorrectly detects you as being in Aruba! Disappointed and uninstalling.

This app worked really well for a week. Now it gives the message 'an error has occurred' but the 'close' button does nothing but recycle the same message. Meanwhile the screen judders and the graphics boxes flash on and off. Erasing cache and storage, uninstalling and reinstalling and restarting the phone have no effect. UPDATE: I had a speedy response from admin - thank you! - and when I checked the app next morning it was working perfectly. Fingers crossed that whatever it was is fixed!

Seems like a good idea for an app. but having had installed for a month it's alerted every single day, even on days with thick rainclouds and rain. if the alert goes off daily then I might as well either put suncream on daily or just chance it. there's no way to set the alert level either. I want to customise the UV level not the time of the level.
