Download the app, create a profile and verify your identity. Once you are verified, a personal wallet will be ready for you to begin participating in Chamas and transacting. You can deposit money into your personal wallet from Mpesa, and also withdraw from your wallet to Mpesa.
With the Chama app from Stanbic Bank, you can create as many Chamas as you like. You can invite friends, family and colleagues from your phone address book. The people you invite, will receive invitations via text message. If they choose to join your group, they can review the groups constitution and accept the invitation.
The Chama app from Stanbic Bank puts the power in your hands to manage your group the way that you, as a group chooses to.
Here are some of the amazing features that are available to groups;
- Complete Visibility to all members
All members can see all the activity that takes place in the group. All transactions are listed and can be queried and searched for in real time.
- Changeable Membership roles
After a member has accepted the invitation to join a group, the officials can change that members' membership role to; chairperson, treasurer or mentor.
There can be as many chairpersons and treasurers as the group wants. In fact, all members can be chairpersons and they can all have equal responsibilities in the group.
And if the group needs some assistance from someone to guide them on their journey, the group can invite a member as a mentor. Mentors do not participate financially, but they have full visibility of all the activity in the group and can join the group chat, from inside the app.
- Membership Statuses
After a person has accepted an invitation to the group, they will become an active participant. Officials can change any members' membership status at any time to any of the following; Active, On-hold and Terminated.
Changing a members' membership status to On-hold, means that the member is temporarily not participating in the group's activities.
Terminating a membership means that the member is no longer participating in the group whatsoever.
Terminated and On-hold memberships may be re-activated at any time.
- Loans
When groups are created, one of the options is to indicate whether the group will make use of the Loans functionality.
There are many great features to help make management of loans easier on the group officials.
The group can specify the following rules;
> The groups' loan interest rate
> Whether loans must be approved by officials and how many approvals are required
> The maximum loan amount that a member can apply for from the group based on; a percentage of their total contributions, how long they have been a member for, how many active loans they can have at any given time, the total outstanding on all active loans and whether they have any penalties due.
When a member applies for a loan, they can see the maximum amount that they can apply for as well as the calculation that resulted in the amount.
The Chama app uses an invoicing system to ensure that there is clear visibility on the loan disbursement, and the repayments by the member.
- Group Goals
Indicate your groups' goals, add a picture for inspiration and let everybody see how the group is progressing towards these goals.
To allocate money to the goal is simple and straightforward. Simply indicate the amount to add to the goal, after which the groups available balance is reduced by this amount.
Money in goals can be moved to the available balance at any time.
The Chama app has inbuilt, real time chat. The chat also has a polls feature which allows the group to vote on important decisions.

I give it a 5 because it is a good chama app that allows family and friends to save together. The app creates discipline in saving. However, there are so many unstable updates.

It is a great app for Chamas. I would suggest the following improvements:- 1. Tell us more about new updates so that we can start using the new features. 2. Multi-invoicing instead of selecting one by one. 3. Initiating payment from the app to M-pesa (STK Push). 4. Overview of all the members' total contributions.

Stanbic bank,you are the best.this app is one and only of all the the existing bsnks,simple,and easy to use.,would you give individual accounts an option to create spending cards even if its virtual cards...we spend without withdrawals to wallets...shopping online etcc

I have visited one of your branch and raised the concern,but I am yet to receive any response or support. After trying various troubleshooting, I have found a temporary solution to the problem. Whenever I want to login to the app, I simply click on "forgot" or "want to change your App Code" to reset it, and it seems to be working. I am still looking forward to a permanent fix

Been on the app for like 3 months and so far the experience is above average. Kindly address: 1 . Add more more frequency options 2. Options to kick out members or delete those who've not accepted request to join. 3. Options to delete notifications for cancelled invoices. 4. Any options for individuals without ID

The App is good and a great innovation. Kudos However, kindly allow one to add multiple members (selection of multiple contacts) and also allow issuance of bulk invoices (regular contributions for members). The App is also slow when accessing contacts, making the process of adding new members (if many) tedious.

VERY IRRITATING. I registered, verified. Added a few pals into the chama, but one month later, they haven't been verified. Called the customer care, one week later, no response, no verification. I have to leave it now. however, great and promising concept. Less implementation thought.

Can you have a way to make contribution through a USSD? There are some of my members who don't have smart phones and locked out. Kindly see how you can update the app to include usage with a USSD

Kindly. Work on the individual totals. So that when as admin i click on the Total amount contribution. I can see immediately the break down of the amount per individuals total.

Add more file options when downloading history. Have an option to assign specific rights and not just the default profiles set. The admin should be able to assign some rights such as who receives notifications etc.

An amazing and well-thought-out product. The transparency and efficiency that come with this app are amazing. I would suggest the following additional features: Multi-invoicing (invoicing many members at a go) and initiation of repayments from the app for M-Pesa (STK Push). (Edit)We(speaking for many) will appreciate it if you can tell us what's new for new updates. This will make us informed of the new features and start using the... Otherwise, personally I am enjoying it so far. Good job!

A good app for chamas. An idea whose time has come. A few considerations though that can be included in the app: -Enable both sms and app notifications at the same time. Any notification from the app to members should be both in app format and sms as well. -Consider adding more features of contributions like welfare, merry go round etc. You currently have only 4 options of contributions ie joining fee, contributions, penalties and loans. Consider expanding the bracket. Otherwise it's a good idea

Great app. 1. I would like to have an mpesa prompt for me to make payments to the chama sent from the app. 2. Add a USSD code to manage and interact with the chama.
