The touch controls don't even appear when I start to play. (Update) I think the performance of the game is good, however it doesn't hide the fact that the controls are kinda messy and also I don't understand why the game can't cover the entire screen. Overall, it's not a terrible port, but it also isn't a wonderful one.

Controls do not work on my phone. I go to their support page and they list very issue but controls not being responsive. There is no communication to the user, not even a little info box on the site that says "hey we are looking into this". This one star is both for the app no working properly and it not being properly communicated to the user before they subscribe to Netflix and download it.

The game was good and free (except you needed a Netflix account), however I noticed the bugs when I just downloaded it. The joystick are bugging and I can only move forward instead of backward, it makes it harder to finish the zone or game. Please fix this, it's harder to finish the game. (Edit: To keep you guys updates, IT GOT ALOT BETTER NOW! Controls were easy to use and also alot of better qualities! .)

A good port. Youtube thinks the opposite though, and i respect it. You guys should've done a better job just like the decomp did. I don't like the main menu. Why does it look like a screensaver select screen? Why didn't you just bring back the normal Sonic Mania Plus menu? The touch controls are bad, too. The reason the Sonic 1 and 2 remake had good joysticks because they were programmed to work like d-pads. But not this port! Please do a better job, i beg. And the level select! It looks bad!

Extremely fun game to play, as sonic mania has always been and im glad its free to play if you have netflix. As a port of the game, it's extremely good. Plus the devs seem to be very quick at fixing any bugs that people have found. 👍👍 But if possible, it would be cool if you could change the digital anolog stick to a digital dpad, and reposition the buttons as an option.

The game looks great and I haven't had the control issues some others have. However the autosave function isn't working so everytime I click on my saved game I'm taken back to the start of Green Hill zone. There's no manual save option either (unless I've missed it) so not much point to the game if every time I click off it I have to start again from scratch.

This is an almost PERFECT port of Sonic Mania! I encountered a few frame drops, but I lost probably around 5 frames at most. My biggest complaint is the joystick. I can totally play with it, but I wish there was also a D-Pad option. I'd just like to have the option to switch between the two in settings. Also, I think the screen should be widened. The borders make it look kind of ugly.

For people stating there is issue with the game speed or repsone is slow. Factor in that your phone speed is a factor you should also consider closing apps not in use to provide the best chance of running smoothly. The game supports controller and I don't have any issues playing touchscreen or controller. Game runs very well and I would expect a game with similar 16bit to do so on new age phones.

I have a constant lag while playing. While people may not notice or mind, it's distracting once you notice. It's always there no matter and chugs during special stages. The game is still playable but the constant lag is holding the port back. What I'm about to say next is petty, but the decompilation has a steady fps and I honestly expect an official port to do the same. I know it isn't my phone, it's the game. I hope the game gets a patch that improves the game's performance.

The actual game itself is a wonderfully built port but some parts of the game are physically impossible to play on the galaxy phone line. For starters, if you go into a mania mode game and try to spin dash the left joystick bugs out and forces you to look up making anything but drop dashing impossible to gain speed. Due to this same bug, it makes some special stages extremely difficult to get by as well as making the encore mode entirely impossible to get past Angel Island Zone. Don't play this.

This port is a perfect example of doing the bare minimum. It's playable, but barely functional. The game is constantly dipping frames and it's even worse in the special stages. Heck, even the menus feel super sluggish. This isn't a me issue, I have a Google Pixel 6. I know this game can run better because the Decompilation runs flawlessly at full speed. This is a bad port, but if you REALLY want to play Sonic Mania on your phone, just play the decomp and don't waste your time with this version.

Here's a revised version of the review for Sonic Mania on the Google Play Store: Horrible port. It's sluggish and laggy on my Samsung Galaxy S22. There are constant slowdowns, and the screen doesn't fit properly. The game doesn't feel fluid, lacking locked 60fps, 90fps, or 120fps modes, and there's no option for unlocked frame rates or graphic settings. I'm disappointed in both Sega and Netflix for releasing such a lackluster experience. Date on May 17th 2024

I have really enjoyed this game so far, and I'm glad Sonic Mania has been brought to mobile, however I've been playing with a controller as the touch screen controls seen not to appear while playing. I hope that, in a future update, this issue will be resolved. Since many people don't have controllers and rely on the touch screen controls. Another thing I have noticed is that there is some slowdown. However, it is not too much to really detract from the game. -Thanks for listening

First off you need a Netflix subscription so that's minus 1. Then half of the audio in the game doesn't even work. Like not even the jump sound or the ring sounds work so another minus. Then the controls while somewhat functional, feel really stiff and unresponsive compared to other mobile sonic games. I believe this game has a lot of potential if you release consistent updates that fix the game. But as of now this is not a good representation of Sonic Mania. Please fix Sonic game. 🌀💨

I was only able to get this game to work properly one time and during that time the controls were sluggish/unresponsive. Whose idea was it to control a Sonic game with a virtual analog stick? I can't even pull off a spin dash without coming to a complete stop. The game was also choppy with dropped frames and the presentation was sloppy overall. DO BETTER!!

Look, don't get me wrong, sonic mania is a great game, and I can see what they were trying to do, but the way it's executed is kinda mid, the controls should've been a d-pad, the game slows down quite a bit very frequently, and the menus are clunky. I'd only really return to this port if I have no other way to play it. Overall, it's just a mid version of the game

A decent port to the phone. I still play this on Switch. I would give it a five if it didn't randomly slow down a bit at times. And if there was a setting to change how big you want your controls. Sometimes it is hard to roll and spin dash. When I am trying to roll at a enemy, I sometimes get hit and lose rings when I am speedrunning for fun. But I got used to it. I love it though. Just needs some updates and it will be a complete worthy port of a beautiful game. Good job overall Netflix. 👍

Is pretty good, my problem is that is hard to transfer my Netflix account, and another problem is the controls, they are awful! Is a tedious task to play with the controls. But everything else is solid, everything ran better than I thought. I don't get the people who say it runs bad. But in the special stages it is a little choppy. So is pretty solid, I only have 2 issues that's all and I think they'll be fixed soon anyway.

Uodate from my old review: the 5.0 issue seemed to have fixed a couple things, so I'll give you that. It looks like you fixed the pixel scaling, but I can't really tell, so all I want you to do is fix the game looking choppy, let the game take advantage of the entire screen, let the controls be movable, and maybe make it a dpad instead of a weird joystick, which just isn't the best for a 2d platformer, and I'll be happy.

This is pretty close to perfect, but I've had a couple minor issues that hold it back from five stars. As stated with other reviews, there are occasional slowdowns, but nothing that's game breaking. And at that they only ever happened in the blue sphere bonus stages so it wasn't too bad. There are a couple random collision issues throughout the game and for some reason it refuses to let me use debug mode but every other bonus works. So basically, it's a serviceable port that could use some work.
