perfect port to the phone! 4 stars only for the fact the ads are slightly annoying, and the controls are a little wonky. No idea what the guy from the top review is saying. You can definitely save in game as well as quick save through game center. YOU ONLY NEED INTERNET ACCESS IF YOURE QUICKSAVING. NOT IF YOURE NORMALLY SAVING IN GAME AT A CHURCH!

Love the game itself, It's a great classic that I've always enjoyed. But this app itself is complete utter trash, can't trust any of the save features on it. The normal save feature within the game itself will likely delete your data, and the other save feature that is made specifically for this app. A lot of times will not save your progress.

Wow. Way too many ads. Miserable experience. Playing game. I get a text. So I respond to text. Than I have to watch an ad just to resume my game. I put my phone down to pee. My phone goes to black screen while using bathroom. Bring phone back on and have to click resume and watch an ad. I thought it was actually genius to have the save function using ads. But than I found out you also have to watch an ad to load the save that you already watched an ad for. Greed will always cost more.

The game is perfect, it's just the saving aspect since I don't always have access to internet. That and the up, down, left, and right part of the d-pad is a bit too thin so I constantly miss click a direction even when I increase the size. Either the d-pad needs to be thickened up or there should be an option to thicken the up, down, left, and right parts of the d-pad. Other than that I'm having a good time. Love the series 🤘

The game is great, but it needs work. It makes you sign back in to Google play constantly, which then means you have to sign back into the game server which will sometimes allow you in but most times freezes the game, causing you to lose your progress. This can be very frustrating on a game like this, especially when one of the main reasons I paid for this game was the ability to save at any point. When I contacted Sega all they could say was that the problem would hopefully be solved later. 😕

I absolutely loved playing this on the Sega Genesis, so I was excited to find an app for my phone. Little did I know that I would end up so utterly disappointed in it that it is beyond words. It locks up or completely crashes every 5 to 10 minutes so I can't even get out of the town or through the first battle without it crashing. I've tried playing it for a couple days hoping it was just a glitch, but I guess I'll just have to find a simulator if I want to actually play it. 🤬

Auful save system. Has to connect to game server to save, requiring a 30 second ad. Now this could be ok, if it didn't take so long to connect. Further it frequently gets stuck trying to connect and then locks up so you lose your game progress. The controls are poor with the direction pad being very touchy. Just make it a paid app that can utilize saves on device would fix the issues.. but that's not happening

Shining Force is one of the first RPGs I ever played growing up. I have probably spent 200+ hours in these games... The games are perfect except for a few things: Shining Force has a delay when you press any button. This is really annoying especially when you're walking around town. All the games seem to be the original localizations. That also means the same bugs are still there and the same things that were taken out are still missing in these games. You need to be online to save.

It's a faithful port of the games, controls work well enough (clunkiness isn't as bad for TRPGs as Action games). Major issues with unresolvable freezes occurring after more than five minutes of play in the middle of battles. Ad-enabled Save/Load feature often fails to work--loading ad successfully but failing to complete Save/Load afterwards in half of all instances, prompting player to watch another ad again instead of Loading/Saving. Don't buy ad-free option till freezing issues are fixed.

Good emulation, user interface needs work. I have to click "sign-in" three times in order to actually get a save state to load. Why is there no load save state button anywhere during actual gameplay? Shining in the Darkness plays great. Might be a few slight audio glitches, I Ike when a door slides open, but so far it's a flawless port.

I was so happy to see this game finally on Android. Amazing game that has excellent replayability and holds its own after decades. But ingame saving is removed and saves are locked behind an ad or pay wall and also locked behind a log in (no offline play). I would gladly pay a few dollars for these games but not with this implementation. Make in game saving functional and playable offline and this would be a 4 star review (control scheme not ideal). Will uninstall and hope they change their ad, pay, and save structure in the future.

This is such an awesome find. I love these games. Don't care for the movement on mobile. It could take a tip from how the joystick works in the final fantasy remasters for mobile. A tap to move function would be ideal for this game I think. Otherwise I'm having a ton of fun with this and big ups to Sega for not abandoning such an unforgettable franchise.

Great games, favorite of all time. Bad mobile port. Randomely freezes up while trying to save, directional control is bad. The game has 4 directions, the controller has 8. So often you try to go up, but hit a diagonal that does nothing instead. They should widen the 4 directions buttons and disable the diagonal ones as they aren't needed. But the random freezes while connecting to server while saving are what's making me uninstal the game. Play for an hour, save, then the app locks up.

I would give the game 5 out of 5 as this was and still is my favorite turn based game. however the controls are wonky and make doing simple task in the game complicated. In the mobile age of touch screen, I think a touch based system would work out very well for this game as the controls now make it impossible to enjoy the game for what it is.

I bought ad removal but still need to watch ads after changing devices. Game crashes constantly. Do not purchase until they fix bugs. My favorite Sega Genesis games! Shining in the Darkness is what I am playing now. Controls are a little buggy but the game is as I remembered it. Features that require logging in are a little buggy too but they work after a try or two. Looking forward to putting Dark Sol back where he belongs!

The ads didn't bother me near as much as the controls. For some reason just using the arrows to move around triggers the menu to open. It's definitely a glitch or error of some kind. I tested this by not having my one hand anywhere near the a, b, and c buttons, and I could see the "c" button light up when just pressing the arrow key, and then the menu opened. Please fix this, and I will change my rating

I paid and still see ads all the time. Game forgets that I paid and asks me to do so, even though it tells me I have already activated ad-free mode. Popups, ad-sense, begging for money. Watch an ad to resume a save state? Wat. I love this game and you ruined it. Controls are not good - too small, unresponsive, not customizable at all. Will seek a full refund

Great games marred by two big problems: one, you cannot save in-game and require to use the app's save states. Two and more egregious, I cannot find any way to remove the blue background, which somehow affects the blacks of the emulated screen. It should have alternate background/frame options, or at least the ability to disable said background.

Great game!!! Unreliable saving. Up to you, but I was frustrated a number of times when I lost over an hour of progress because of a bug with saving. I would pass on this game until they fix the problem, because the inabily to reliably save your progress is a deal breaker. That said, if they were to fix it, easily a 4.5 to 5 star experience.

I enjoy the game, currently working through the first one. But the virtual d-pad for the game is horrendously bad. You need to face something to interact with it, but you end up pushing one of the diagonals and turning away. You can't even move diagonally! Have a configuration option that emphasizes the cardinal directions up, down, left, and right. I understand that they go for a nostalgic look, but it does not work if you can't feel the keys. Thank you for not bogging it in ads. Good port.
