I've tried out two different languages now, though for short amounts of time so far. I really like the immersion aspect but for Japanese as an example, it would be really helpful to have the furigana above the kanji, specifically for the "listen and repeat" segments, as I have trouble remembering the kanji sounds on top of pronouncing everything else in the sentence.

Just started mine- is there not a test to see what level one is? I am not a beginner, so I feel like I am having to guess around and skip a bunch of lessons in the plan I picked (not knowing about it) to try to find a more applicable place for myself. I am not against review, but I am needing some more practice at my current usual level or just below it, as more of a priority. Also- the pictures one chooses from for certain exercises are TINY. difficult to ascertain what one is viewing.

It goes too fast for someone who is completely new to a language. It's supposedly beginner, but it's hard to understand Korean when I've never spoken it or heard it before. It goes on to fill sentences without me being able to disarm the sounds or the different words. If you do have some knowledge of the langue, it's not too bad, but still advances too fast.

So far, it has been a great experience. The app works very well and is responsive. I love that they don't put any english in the lessons, only pictures, voice, and the script of the language I am learning. Feels like I am associating the new language with the direct concepts, not just translating from English to a new language. I have not had a single problem with the voice recognition aspect or the size of pictures, as others have mentioned. Perhaps it depends on the phone? Galaxy S22 here.

Always wanted to learn German and now I'm doing it, on my 3rd lesson now, though I knew some, I started at the beginning, and so far I've got a good basic handle of it, I'm really enjoying my lessons, I would recommend an (1) earbud, one that can do calls as the microphone is clearer than the phone. Was getting pronunciations wrong, but it was like my phone couldn't hear me, the earbud fixed that. I'd recommend it. It does picture identification with both written words & verbal.

I think this is a good app and I like it, but the voice recognition tool definitely needs some work. It will say I got the pronunciation wrong even on simple syllables. One thing I also wish they would add (I don't think they even do this on things like Duolingo) is teaching you the word or phrase. I think this app is good at reinforcing phrases and words but not teaching them in the first place. Yes, there is a translate tool, but sometimes that doesn't show up for me.

Just to start with the one negative, the audio matching doesn't work sometimes and is very sensitive to background sound. Besides that, this app is truly amazing. I've learned so much Russian the last two months of using it, so I truly couldn't be happier. I also tried a couple competitor apps and this made learning so much easier with the pictures.

Update: the mic issues seem to be a little better. I'm still having trouble with some though, but not as many as before. I don't think I am having any other issues right now. I appreciate the devs working on this. Original: I feel like this app would work great except that several times during the speaking lesson, the microphone does not pick up any sound. But it's only on certain pictures, most of them work fine but when it doesn't work I get it wrong because it doesn't hear anything I say.

I am a fan of the app, and I enjoy using it to learn language, although it can be somewhat stern. But suddenly the app won't open. It just sits on the opening screen and doesn't load the language learning content. I tried clearing the cache after a few tries, but that hasn't yielded success either. Until they fix this error, I can't give any higher than 1 star to an app that doesn't work.

It is extremely frustrating when it is asking for the form of a sentence used when there is no explanation for how the selections differ. for instance, when selecting the proper form of wearing at the end of sentences there is no explanation for how the choices differ so you literally bang your head against the wall playing trial and error till you select all the right answers. there should be an explanation page telling you what situations to use which....

Rather infuriating. It requires you to speak, which is expected, but if there is ANY background noise it marks it wrong. If you don't match the EXACT cadence, it marks it wrong. You are supposed to be learning, which means you will have pauses when trying to speak another language. You can't with this app. I do like that there are pictures so that you associate the words with an image, but is doesn't really help when you keep getting wrong answers and it doesn't give you a chance to reset.

I've done the full series of lesson 1 in German. I like how they match the words to pictures. It seems like a good app. I am enjoying it so far. I have nothing to compare the app to as this is the first language learning app I've tried. I will probably do all of the lessons in Rossetta Stone, and then I plan on also trying out babble to compare them and to just have extra learning lessons. I'm excited to learn German again! SUPER FUN app to pass the time, rather than playing a pointless game.

the speech on this app is awful!!! It won't let me speak and then when it does let me speak it says that I'm wrong so I have to back out and shut down the app and then go back in and reset the issue. you guys have a "how was our speech device" thing right after that and you do NOTHING about the fact that this hasn't changed since last year and probably way before. it's not ny laptop because this is the second laptop I've had with this app. this is ridiculous!!!!please fix your app!!!!

Speech does not work well for Tagalog, so I have it disabled. I read and repeat out loud, so I get that practice there. The app will hang at a indefinitely when it reaches a speaking exercise, so I have to pause the app and manually skip to the next exercise. Sometimes, the app is unresponsive on the speech exercise and will not let me complete the lesson at all. This is the best app I found so far to learn Tagalog but the user interface is very awful with anything related to speech.

I downloaded the full version and it's very user friendly and for the number of languages you get it is worth the $200. It goes at a good pace and even learning a completely foreign language like Japanese is progressing smoothly. They teach with pictures and sounds and words. They also teach you how to pronounce and that works 90% of the time but 10% it just doesn't work. The pictures are very clear. There is an option to pause and see the English translation or pause and listen again. 97/100!!!

They've gone out of their way to make the in app experience awful. The lessons are mindless multiple choice, which for some reason they take away the translation, so you mindlessly click on random words, not really learning the context. Gonto duo lingo and split a family plan and compete against friends. This thing won't even let me be logged in across devices for an improved UX. Almost better to use google translate to learn.

The update to add translations really brings the whole program into a new level. When learning a language the immersion is very important, but sometimes the app could be confusing. There was no way to learn the difference between "they run" and "we run" from pictures - or are kids "studying" or "writing". The new translation icon makes it easy to confirm what I am learning. Its a welcome addition that has me confident that Rosetta is now much better than Ling, Duolingo or Babble. Well worth it!

Glitchy. Even if auto advance is off, the app advances the exercises past where you speak about 50% of the time. It shows as a skipped exercise and it won't let you go back and do it. Then because you did not complete the speaking exercises, it marks the whole lesson as incomplete so you can't advance. Reinstalling it worked for about 5 minutes then glitched again.

Have used Rosetta Stone for years (back when they were on CD-ROM) for French and Italian. Love the product. Fun, challenging, and practical for travel. Great product! UPDATE JUNE 2024: Originally I had rated to app a 5. I am revising the rating to a 2 because of app functionality. Since the new update in May, the speech settings (when turned off) lock the screens and will not allow you to forward in the lesson. The app is UNUSABLE if you do not want to speak on an android app. FIX THE APP!

I bought the membership because I joined a learning group that all uses RS. It definitely feels like deeper learning than other apps. I surprise myself with the intuition I'm building. I had an issue where a lesson froze and I had to reinstall the app, which was annoying, but it worked. sometimes the text seems too small for mobile, but there's a lot of content that's packed into the exercises. so if it's hard to read small, if recommend using a bigger screen to practice.
