PLAYING GUIDE:
Popscene divides the music making process into entertainment (represented by stars) and artistry (represented by hearts). As in real life, popular music is more likely to shoot up the charts and draw fans - but without substance, the success may be short-lived. Each of the game's many artists has the following attributes that influence this process:
- POPULARITY is the artist's ability to draw fans to entertaining content.
- REPUTATION is their ability to draw fans to artistic content.
- PERFORMANCE is their ability to perform entertaining songs live.
- TALENT is their ability to perform artistic songs live.
- PRODUCTION is their ability to compose entertaining music.
- WRITING is their ability to compose artistic music.
- HAPPINESS is the pleasure they currently get from their work.
- ATTITUDE indicates how likely they are to either contribute or cause trouble.
This is a band management sim, and as a band manager it is your job to recruit stars from the music biz. Each week, depending on the size of your team and their collective attitude, new songs may be recorded. Each member of the team contributes their score to a new song, and whoever scores the highest will be credited with making it. Members who are dedicated backstage staff will contribute twice instead of once - inc the chances of a good song being written.
Once songs exist, it is the on-stage performers who must bring it to life. As with writing, each band member on stage contributes their score and the highest determines how well the song was received in each category. This time, it is the "frontman" who gets to contribute twice instead of once - so consider who is at the forefront.
The overall rating for a show is the average of all the songs performed - albeit slightly more generous so that perfection is not required. This is also true of album reviews. A 5-star performance may consist of consistent 4-star contributions. Reviews are where your performances feed back into the stats that produced them, because each attribute will rise or fall to reflect what just happened.
When booking venues, you must consider how much it will cost versus how much you are likely to recoup. Tickets are sold at $5 per song so it depends how long your set is. You will receive a percentage of this revenue, and must then use that to pay your employees and any other expenses. Singles are sold at $1 each whereas albums are sold at $1 per song for a maximum of $10 (cha-ching!). If you have a week of inactivity, you may find that you make a loss because of the expenses of your lifestyle (which reflects your wealth). On the independent scene, you take a larger chunk of lower revenue so you will have to migrate to a major label eventually.

Good Concept but seriously are you ever going to update it and add on to it? First off it's impossible to keep going cause expenses keep piling up for no reason. Other artists and managers keep bugging me to do something I already told them I don't want to do. Next you can never play a show when you want cause it's never available. Have better options and make it possible to have multiple songs on the charts at the same time.

No matter what music I make in game or upload, the game tells me its trash and i ultimately end up getting fired from the independent label. Also, you have zero control over what happens in the game. You cant control when you release songs, you cant make any adjustments to the song that would change the audience review on it. Terrible. Brutal game design. Programmed by infants, unplayable

Once was a fun time passer. Keyword ONCE. I've played the game off and on for years and I truly enjoyed it. Now they go and make customization. Somthing that has been in the game for free for literal years, Cost money. I get Mat is a small independent developer and ive played his games for years. Since 2012 to be exact. But this is ridiculous. Making a character, somthing pretty crucial to enjoying the game should not be pay walled. Ill make this rating a 4 again if this changes. Just quite sad.

This game has 4 problems: 1. Band battles take forever because the cpu performance will not stop. 2. I paid $2.99 and I don't get to customize more attributes other than appearance? 3. People can claim your music and continue to win every court case. 4. The game is way too difficult. No matter how good the song is, the crowd rates it 1 star and 1 1/2 hearts.

It's quite a bad simulation game. There's a lack of content and things to do. You don't get to choose when to make songs and the process of actually making songs is non existent apart from naming them. During performances you can't do anything to help your chances of a better outcome. It's all down to your attributes. None of which you can. actively improve. And there are lots of bugs and QOL issues. Also money is nearly useless because there's only one thing to spend it on (recruiting talent).

The game was interesting back in the good old days, but now the new music creating system is sort of trash, why we need to use a song thats in our phone (On our phone music album) to create a song that will have a random rating adjusted by the talent of our characters, Please bring the old music system back.. Its good to see our own characters creating a new song instead of using one that is in our phone :)

This game is fun and a great time killer. Many people find it complicated but there's many things to help, when you start out with your attribute points make sure to balance topics out and you'll improve with experience. If you are into music this is a top pick. It would be complete with some updates on the starter status and stop promoting it's in-app purchases. 5/5 anyway.

This game is amazing. I have had fun with it for many hours, and I enjoy the MP3 feature. But, otherwise, the game is lacking. The only actual use for money is to hire other people. It would be nice if more lifestyle elements would be added, like you could buy cars, houses, and other things. Otherwise, perfect game.

This game is good but aghh it's so frustrating and annoying sometimes they give the most unrealistic tasks and it takes too long to get a new song and even when you get a new song it's bad but the good parts of this game it's pretty refreshing and one of the only games that let you have a full music career.

This game was my favourite, until the developer DIDINT let us create our own character. Now we have to start from scratch! With characters who have 50 in every stat?? Theres a lack of substance and it glitches when the screen becomes white, then we have to re-do what we did in that week! The only way to record tracks is by luck, the label owners rush us into finishing an album and when u say no, ur attitude deteriorates! I thought id be free to release ON MY OWN but apparently we're forced to!!

I wish that MDickie would go back to making games so he could fix this. It has a lot of potential to be something great, but it's held back in aspects. Even when you're making a lot of money from a single or album, you lose a lot of money, even if you have high royalties. Also, the decisions the ai makes for your character is terrible, with unrealistic goals and tasks. This is only the tip of the iceberg. Overall, the game has a lot of flaws, but I still have fun. I hope he comes back to fix it.

The game is interesting and all but it would be better if it were a 3D version like wrestling empire but better than that and if the characters could move around and have they're own lives and have cars and other stuff rich musicians would have also make it so the characters can each have they're own house's please just consider what am saying pls 🙏🙏🙏 it would make the game more better

This game is imo the best music sim on the play store, and I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed that way forever. I've always loved what Mdickie does with his games and this game definitely cracked the top 3 list of his best games ever. The one thing I'd like to see added to it is an option to save your created character, so that if their career prematurely ends you can still copy and paste them and try again. It never feels good wasting time on making a character that retires immediately.

Great game but a a few changes wouldn't hurt l mean I love the game but it's graphics are old and need to be changed like the for example before performing you or your group could have practice and also when you perform you can't control how you dance or move add something to help you do such things

This game is fun but unfairly difficult. You have to just get lucky from the songs you produce, if you even get a chance to produce one because you have to wait sometimes months just to make another song that might be 3 stars at best. Another problem is that your boss gives you challenges that if you lose YOU'RE OUT! Imo the most annoying feature since you can't improve your skills unless you perform or write a song. I'd rather liked if you could make songs or improve your skills without perm.

Could've been great but too boring. There is no way to improve your stats. Not much good in- game tracks. No way to improve your creations. There should be an option where we can release songs whenever we want instead of the Manager's command & choose any track of our choice. There should be SOME trainings available to improve stats & ratings. We should get control over our character during performances to move around & show gestures (like your wrestling games). Add more activities..

Great game, I love how there's knockoffs if real music creators lol. And also, it may take a bit but you can become famous without needing to get the backstage pass! Sure, you can't make it on your own like that, but with a band you can make a lot of money (in game, of course)! It took me like one or two days without backstage pass, and I already have like 12+ million, and I produce mostly 4-5 star and/or heart songs! Overall, I love this game, and it's a great way to spend some extra time on.

I've been playing this game for a year and the games is very good, the reason i am giving it 4 stars because when you meet someone you always have one option which is signing the person, we need more options like "can we be friends" or "can i challenge you on a rap battle" and many more. Most importantly we need to have the option to feature someone on the song, not to sign and feature. and can we have the ability to own a record label and record the song at our own time then waiting for boss.

LOVE Your games. If you were ever interested in porting or remaking it I would Love to see Popcorn come to mobile, or just more games like this one in general. I like a lot of your games, wrestling revolution, hard time, extra lives, superhero city. But this is my all time favorite. EDIT: I noticed youtube music now appears as an option. However this option does not actually work. Is there a way you could removed it as an option so as not to get players hopes up?

This game is perfect. It has the mdicky experience while also being something new. The game is hard when you are a beginner, but the more you play, the more you will learn the basics. I also like that when you play a song frequently, the crowd will sing some of the lyrics of the song if they have it (this mostly happens when you play an mp3 song) I feel like there should be a training station to boost your talents, like in those wrestling games, because it's mostly rng. 9/10
