easy app to use and plan your train journey.

They promote this as a way to save time and do your own thing. However, one time the app was completely down and the train was about to arrive so I either had to miss the train or get fined. This is despite every station promoting the app, and suddenly it's your fault if it fails. Joke of a company. Now I avoid trains as much as I can or use paper, I'll never trust Northern to go paperless with their app because they refuse to be accountable for their error, and appalling service.

no ads (unlike train line), can buy more tickets than train line, payment doesn't fail, very responsive.

Use this App anytime I wanted to book Northern Rail tickets. Very convenient and quickly shows what discount tickets are available for any journey.

Quick and easy to use once set up, and you can check live times as well.

I find this app really easy to use. All the ticket options are presented and clearly priced alongside the restrictions for use of each option. Despite its name, you can book trains in any part of UK. I've personally booked tickets from Henley-on-Thames to London Paddington without any problem. It also stores your debit or credit card details so you don't have to keep entering the card number. You do have to enter your 3 digit security code though. You can pay by PayPal if you prefer.

I'd love to give this app 5 stars, but for months now, it keeps logging me out mid journey. I have used various channels to try and find a remedy from the app contact channels, but nobody replies. It could be just a simple setting on my galaxy s22, but it never used to log me out. Every time I log back in, I have to re enter my railcard. On more than one occasion, I've ended up paying full price because of this. Other than this very irritating trend, the app is good. NR please reply to my emails

So much better than trainline app, easy to use. Trainline app consistently for years, even on different phones throws up a regular error message saying something is off track. N.train more simple and accessible

Slow to respond, won't proceed to next stages of purchase and will not react to button presses when making selections. Has made me unable to buy tickets multiple times.

Was fine, but has stopped working since December 2024. It won't accept any payment option (credit, debit, gpay or paypal). The app is currently useless.

Another useless app that doesn't show the tickets even though I was signposted from the email confirmation to use this app. Subsequently the way to get the ticket was via a screenshot once logged in. Utterly broken, completely needs a redesign and rethink to make it less disjointed. Other countries can do it, why is it hard for the UK.

Keeps dumping me halfway down the page when searching for the train home, an hour or two down from the time I selected. I can't tell if this is a poor design decision, a bug, or a malicious choice designed to get people to have to buy multiple non-refundable tickets if they're in a rush to buy singles. Either scroll to the top of the search by default or allow advanced singles to be refundable with a window of a few mins to get around this - just do something. Switching to Trainline until fixed.

used to work fine I could easily buy tickets in moments (in car, in station, at home etc) but in the last week it has stopped functioning in any practical sense. whenever I enter journey details and press search it just tells me oops something has gone wrong, then I get a 'you are off line message' even when I have a good 5G connection. (Update needs to disable VPN to be able to search etc, this does not strike me as good practice).

I use the flexi season tickets. There used to be a button to "activate" the ticket for the day but this has now disappeared. Instead the app activates the ticket when you go onto it. For instance, if you want to see how many tickets you have left but don't intend on travelling that day, it will automatically activate. I lost two tickets, over £15, before I realised they changed the system. Disgraceful.

This app is atrocious. Difficult to buy tickets, prices are higher than buying on the internet. If you buy them on the internet you can't actually access the ticket to show it without downloading this app. However, if you purchased the ticket as a guest on the website there is no way to get it into the app and you end up trying to explain yourself to the person to exit at the gate. When you go to your account profile in the app, it takes you back out to the internet to login to see it. Useless!!

I like this app. On occasion it makes the difference between choosing to use the train or not. One plus is that, unlike Trainline, there are no booking fees. And, despite 'belonging' to Northern, you can buy tickets for travel in any part of the country. Finally, I like that you can select routes to show in the Live Tracker based on your recent searches in the app - that saves a lot of faff in the heat of the moment!
