Been using for over a year. Started great. It's been logging me out on my DVR all the time. Must sign in manually over and over just to get in-person playback. They also removed being able to "record on the fly". I spoke to an agent that said I could use a screen recording app to record what my cameras saw... Then the new update doesn't address any of the customer's feedbacks. Soon to switch to their competitor if this foolishness doesn't end soon.

The cameras are good but the app is unacceptable. I have similar issues as others with slow loading or having to close & start the app over to view, recording when it doesn't need to & completely missing important events. Record on the fly for cameras that are set to continuously record was removed which means no events & now no way to capture critical footage one may need. PLEASE fix this! Without record on the fly, that is a major functionality issue. Listing update fixes would be nice too.

This is the worst app and system possible doesn't work. Playback has no fast forward have to manually move through recordings manually. Older night owl system app worked great had fast forward 2 - 32 x speed. System Set for person or vehicle only but records every minute and nothing is there. I will be askjng Sams Club about this garbage system for possible refund. Cameras don't switch to color in daylight without cycling power. Tech support terrible.

It's been pretty good. The only problem I've had is one of the cameras glitches about half the screen and comes and goes randomly. I know Walmart is going to be hell trying to return it after a month. I'm not looking forward to hearing because of I have any problems I will get loud and nasty and then it's off to jail. Oh well been there/done that lolol. 🤐🤬☠️. Other than that it's been pretty good. I would like to have a stronger WiFi transmitter and receiver with a remote control for the TV

Horrible app always crashes and never loads all the videos. You have to close the app and try multiple times, some times you will get lucky and get the video you need, but it could take hours for something that should take a couple of minutes. There was an update, and I was hoping it would improve, but not it got worse, and it crashes even more.

UPDATE: Now the whole system is worthless. I can only occasionally see LIVE feeds, but takes multiple tries & is glitchy & poor quality. Absolutely cannot pull up videos from the library or timeline. I've been super patient but this is the last straw. I'm setting up IP cams today and trashing this. Bye. Holy $#*! I can't flippin' believe y'all finally made this app functin with a Pixel phone! It was the worst of the worst yesterday, but today's update was a complete turnaround! Thank you guys!

6/8/24: All my 7 cameras stopped working. My DVR is not working. I re-installed the Nightowl app and when I enter the Serial #, it says it already recognizes my dvr. It is complete trash! 11/22/23: Night Owl Protect stops recording frequently. I can usually see only live. The reason I bought it was to record, but is always buffering and doesn't record. Even after getting updates, I don't see a difference. It doesn't delete automatically as I scheduled it to be able to record new.

App was never great but is currently unusable, notifications for individual cameras have stopped working, app constantly freezes, and if it doesn't, it takes forever to load any of the live views or events. I've tried clearing the cash, reinstalling, updating firmware on the NVR, etc. I tried emailing the listed email, but that fails with an undeliverable address. How can I reach out?

Doesn't load installed equipment. Says to reset equipment then reinstall. Logged out 99 times and logged back in just to have this app say there's no equipment, that's already added, but not added. Can't use view on phone because not subscribing to a cloud service if the rest of the app is useless. The system does work with a monitor and mouse connected, this app does not.

***UPDATE: After a couple more app updates it is back to working properly and notifications include images again. Thank you! I'm going to add 2 more cameras to my system.*** My notifications used to include a "pic" when a face was detected but since the most recent update, now I only get notifications without even identifying which camera it was detected on with no image or type of detection.

App will not work on my new s24+. Worked fine on my s10 and all my other old phones. Have to keep shutting off phone and restarting phone to make it work one time or have to keep resetting router, can not get ahold of customer service at all it's a waste of time even to try to call. I really think it's time to find a better system.,, I have already checked all the settings and permissions for the App and it still does what I wrote. So this is not a fix!!!!!

Updated: Unplugging and re-plugging it did fix the recording problem, so I gave a star back. But I wish there was a better way to filter notifications. It misses human movement if I turn off "any motion" but then I'm getting a notice for every leaf or bird in my yard. Original: Within the last 2 weeks, my cameras are not recording anything. I thought it was user error as I was trying to reduce the number of notifications I was getting due to random things, but it seems to be app related.

I am so 'over' this system and all it's issues... Each and every time we've needed it, it has failed us. We can never get it to play back any footage we need +whether from the main box or the app). It constantly disconnecta from the app and needs manually reconnected. The only thing it's occasionally good for is checking in on the dogs and we even have issues getting that to work 100% of the time. What a waste of $500 and a bday gift to myself. Getting something new this weekend.

Overall the app works alright. It would be better if the "record on the fly" option was usable as it was when I initially downloaded the app. It's not really convenient to sift through all the "events" as that usually does not catch the whole "event". It's also quite annoying I get notifications for every little thing such as if the wind blows and shifts the tree branches the littlest bit there is "motion" when in fact nothing happened. I am left with hundreds of notifications a day.

Update 5/4: notifications are back but still don't have a photo preview of the alarm. Loading times have gotten slower. Don't know why it has to go through internet when I'm connected on the same wifi as DVR. App needs more development. I know some people. Barely works to get the job done. Notifications needs more work. Constantly changing the style means sometimes it shows a preview, other times just an alert message, it's confusing and needs to fixed. Slow to load and needs constant restart.

This app is frustrating. Most of the time when I click a notification for a video I'm told that it's not connected, there was an issue with the footage, etc. Only way to fix is close everything out and open app manually then scroll through everything to locate what I need. Also had a theft, knew within a day or so when it would have occurred, but none of the "events" caught it so there was nothing we could do. What's the point of cameras if they don't catch important things?

First, the app would sometimes connect and sometimes would not. Then, I couldn't remotely connect to my system and had to be in wifi range to review the cameras. Now, the system won't connect to the internet at all and keeps telling me to plug an ethernet cable in. The cable is in and has been tested with no problems. Still can't connect. Now, I am trying to factory reset the system. Night Owl cameras are nice but the DVR/NVR is conplete garbage. Save your money and go with a better brand.

The notification process is ridiculous. it only sends a screenshot or video when the app is open sometimes hours after it occurs. There is no time to act on anything. Text notification comes all day for absolutely no reason at all. Try something else. Very egravading. I'm stuck with it, but you don't have to be. Also, it sends you screenshots with pictures that have nothing to do with the video you see after you click on it. 6 to 8 hours after the event, the night vision goes out randomly.

Update2: been using the app for 4 years and it's never consistently worked even after multiple interactions with support [Update: not a year old yet and it decided it wasn't going to record anything anymore] Settings I change don't stick. I'll get an alert every single minute that my car, which has been sitting in the same spot for 2 days, has been detected. Even if I create a non detection zone around my car it will still detect it and let me know.

It is working ok so far. It is not intuitive to set up or use. My main complaint is with the app. I want to choose my notification sound to be unique to Night Owl. Better would be if each camera had its own sound played by my phone, not just a generic sound identical to every unimportant notification on my phone. This should tell which camera is activated. Ring beats Night Owl by far on this important security feature.
