Mondly teaches individual words and phrases but fails to teach the specific grammar rules. You're just supposed to figure it out on your own, which can create a lot of confusion for beginners. In contrast, one nice thing about this app is that it allows you to practice hands-free, so you can practice while driving down the road. I don't recommend using this app by itself. Important: It shows the conjugated estar verb as ser, which is inaccurate. So, be weary of that and educate yourself. 😕

I wanted to refresh my knowledge of Latin after taking it for 2 years in college. But they seem to use the same lessons as other languages, regardless of whether it makes sense or not. Translations are also not always accurate (eg. translating vehiculum as 'car' instead of 'vehicle). Also, the grammar is off. They include 'ego' in every sentence, but Latin didn't use it that way. I'd love to get my money back and just rebuy my old text books instead.

I've never gone premium; most things are locked under premium. That said, the beginner level courses I've taken over the past 4 years have stuck with me; even just doing them for 1 week, I remember phrases from years ago! Anytime I want to attempt learning a new language, I always pick Mondly for that reason heh. Something about the lesson structure is nice and repetitive; the microphone chat option is really cool. Someday I'll stick with it.. that's on me 😅

This app is ok. I love the layout and it seems to stick to everyday phrases you will use regularly and even organizes them into different categories. However, I am an intermediate Portuguese speaker (i just finished the Duolingo tree) and i selected this option when i started but it seems to only cater to beginner learners and for $10 a month, it wasnt exactly what i was expecting. My bluetooth headset also doesnt work with this app.

I have the premium version and it's a very good program. You can use this on the web or the app and it keeps track of your progress across all formats. The lack of consistency in word choice and translation, sometimes speaking a different word than is on the screen, and not always using the most common word or phrase in the target language, shows the program's need for improvement. But overall, an extremely useful program.

Easy to navigate and short and easy lessons to help with memorization. Update: I am currently having issues accessing the premium features I have paid for. I got a new phone, logged into the app, and now all the premium features are locked even though my account shows I have a premium subscription. I have emailed support, but there has been no response yet. I'll update again when they do. Update #2- back up to 5 stars! Quick and easy fix to get my premium access back.

I've used Mondly for years, but I've always found the spelling portion tedious and pointless. (ex. A lot of the french words are spelled the same in english--it just seemed like stupid filler nonsense and gets old pretty fast.) And now, with this last update, there are MORE spelling of words? It's definitely a turn-off for me. I've always loved Mondly until now. I've canceled my subscription. I'll find something else.

I have been using the app for almost a year. What has bothered me a lot is that there are some errors, some typos and some grammatical errors, that are repeated in new lessons for years. When I reported some typos to support, they replied with a form email about regional variations and forwarding my concern to some "team." The same typo shows up tho in a "new" lesson 6 months later. I don't believe that they have any interest or possibly mechanism for fixing problems. Their response was rude.

I really like studying Greek with this app! It is nice being able to switch between the English alphabet pronunciation and the Greek alphabet pronunciation. Words and phrases are not spoken too fast. Plenty of exercises to work with which include indepth definitions and contextual use for new words. Reasonable cost. The speech recognition can be tricky at times, but mostly works. I am finding myself spending more and more time in this app than I do in other more well known apps.

This isn't so much a review of the app as the actual company. I attempted to purchase their lifetime special online, rather than the monthly subscription offered through Google Play. After completing the transaction on their website, I received an email asking me to upload a photo id and most recent credit card statement. Sorry. No. I even provided them with a transaction ackowledgement email from Amex, but that wasn't good enough. Stay away.

This app would be great if the voice recognition could be improved. As it is, it is extremely frustrating to use. I like to use the hands free option, but over and over again the app won't even acknowledge a response, or if it does it will hear my response in a ridiculous, almost comical way. I'm learning Italian, which is one of the easiest languages to learn as far as pronunciation is involved so I can't imagine how bad the voice recognition would be with a more difficult language.

I like the repetition, but not the random sequence of unrelated expressions and the ask to spell simple words spelled exactly as in my mother language. Such words also don't need to be repeated. It would serve the Daily Exercises better if the expressions are centered progessively around a primary subject for a week to make the weekly exercise a more effective review. And how many times does "I have a cat" have to be drilled? It would be super to be able view learned vocabulary lists.

Very handy app for language learning. Update in 2024: still a fantastic app to accompany other traditional methods of learning a language. I just signed up for a year of premium because it's so good, it has you speak aloud and listens to your speech analyzes it and then let's you know if you are understandable or not. That's something that is invaluable. I'm learning Ukrainian which is very hard and using multiple methods but I still can't speak. This app is changing that!

Attractive UI but the user experience is imperfect. Has nice mode where I can converse hands free, yet it never hears single words. When tapping on my phone is required, Mondly often leaves a lot of blank space between the words to be selected and the continue button at the screen bottom. On larger phones this makes the experience less enjoyable. Also, it is really easy to accidentally redo a lesson because the new lesson isn't highlighted and the lesson just completed remains center screen.

I bought this language app because of the variety of languages and the great deal for a lifetime membership. While I am learning some from using it daily, there is definitely room for improvement. Positive: it has categories, such as hotels, restaurants, and more, so you can tailor your learning. Negative:Daily lessons often use random sentences that nobody will use. I have been told how to say the mouse is small several times! Better content needed! Explain grammar a little.

I can't recommend this App. First off, the conversation training at the end of each training sounds like a great idea, until you realize that it doesn't actually evaluate whether what you said is correct. It just plays back the recording blindly. In addition, this app causes an ungodly amount of spam. Constant notifications, and daily spam emails with reminders that you cannot unsubscribe from. I have unticked all boxes in "Email preferences" and it just won't stop´. Unsubscribed.

The good: allowed me to learn from my native language. The lessons were organized into meaningful groups. Seems like a quick way to pick up a few words or sentences of a new language or drill into specific vocabulary. Pronunciation recognition is done well. The not so good: there is really no logical flow to the lessons. Grammar topics do not explain much. Haven't found any differences between beginner and advanced. Chatbot only accepts predetermined answers. Keep expanding, it has potential

Not bad overall but there are a number of bugs. During the conversations the audio doesn't load. You can only hear your own recordings of the phrases. Sometimes in the review after a lesson the same thing happens and it freezes. Also, sometimes it won't respond to the swipe up/down questions until the second time you swipe, which can cause you to get it wrong. It would be a good app if they fixed the defects. But they never have, and clearly never will, or just can't.

I like this app, I'm trying to relearn French and this works well. However, the hands free lessons where you repeat phrases can't understand me! I have native French speakers in my family, I have a great accent, this app has a hard time w Ps and Bs and the French eu sound. I am serious, I have screenshots, I think this is a combination of the microphone not syncing and the difficulty of picking up sounds but it's driving me crazy and wasting my time

Not for the intro learner but for the committed learner. Especially on tough non european languages. If you can get through the first 10 lessons, than this is a great app. But if you are looking for easy step by step structure, based on gramatical rules......not the learning model. Its based on a wholistic association system. You will speak sentences before you decipher individual rules within the language. If you are cool with that. I recommend it.
