The app is okay. I really like the ability to speak answers but you have to be in complete silence for the feature to work. If you're outside or even just walking on a treadmill then the feature doesn't work. It never acknowledges that you say anything. You can yell at your device the answer and that *sometimes* works but you look very crazy and it will unnecessarily raise your blood pressure. Please just test the feature in non-silent settings to make it work better 🙂

i think it's pretty cool, though they need to add synonyms. I've used Duolingo for years and they've always had synonyms available. for example, you can put esposo or marido on any given "husband" translation exercise. I'm very sufficient in Spanish, but they need that. also, after the first bit, all the learn bits require an active subscription. i will probably use the grammar papers though. reading is also only in the pro version, so if you're looking for a free app, use Duolingo

My first impression with the app was great. However, I refuse to support programs that require subscription based payments instead of a simple one time purchase of the product. If that kind of thing doesn't bother you, then I will say Lingvist might be worth your money. Just remember to cancel the subscription when you're done!

Using this app to brush up on spanish after years of not speaking. Good app, not too beginner, but expensive for just a flashcard app, especially when a lot of the translations are wrong (for Latin American spanish it only accepts a lot of Spain Spanish translations NO part of Latin America uses, and a number of words that just aren't the right translation at all - cross checked with Google translate & friends from multiple countries). Enough of these errors have me questioning using this app.

I gave the app 5 stars last year, and enthusiastically recommended it to several friends. Regrettably, I must now deduct two stars from my original rating and warn others that the app may not work as intended. On October 25, Lingvist suddenly displayed that I had 1500 (!) cards to review, despite the fact that I had reviewed all my cards the day before. I contacted customer support, and the representative eventually acknowledged the bug and said they would relay the issue to the developer. After waiting for a week, I contacted them again, asking for an update. They responded that they hadn't heard back from the developer. That was a month ago, and it was the last time I heard from them. It's really frustrating to have to pause my study of French for such a long time. I had a set myself some goals for the end of the year and now I won't be able to attain them. I can understand that an app may have a bug occasionally, but I feel that I have waited enough. I'm a paid subscriber, but in light of this I'm seriously considering not renewing my subscription. *Reply to the response below*: You suggest that I "keep learning without referring to that number". I tried that weeks ago and noticed some unusual behavior (e.g. the same card being shown many times even after correct recall). But I tried it again just now and it seems, as you claim, that the bug isn't affecting the repeat stack number. So, this is still an annoyance, but not as disruptive as I initially believed. Thanks.

Great app. I've learned so much vocab and prononciation and this app makes it so much easier to remember it. The Grammar section of the app isn't excellent but it still provides some sort of brief explanation of the material. If you want to learn grammar i think the best thing to do is just buy a book and complete many practice exercises. For reference, this review is on the french lingvist idk how the other languages are on this app. Hope this review was helpful 👍

I tried to 50-cards free for the assessment. While it looks like there is more emphasis on the user conjugating verbs (this makes it better than Duolingo), I was hoping the assessment algorithm would scale up sufficiently to place me. Instead, it seems to follow a linear number-of-words progression - like many apps - that leave us with a weakness in conjugating verb tenses and expressing our thoughts beyond "travel book" level. Lingvist may be closest to bridging that gap, but can go further.

Really great app. I love using it as a non-nonsense alternative to Duolingo which doesnt dumb things down quite as much. My only complaint is I wish they had an option for Latin American Spanish - the speaker is from Spain and there's not an option to skip words (like the vosotroa forms) which aren't used in the dialect of Spanish I want to learn.

It's easy to use and the reinforcement seems effective. One thing I'd suggest is that when a wrong answer is given that has a meaning that's *close* to the correct one, a brief explanation as to the distinction between the two could be presented. E.g., in French, "informations" vs. "nouvelles." Obv this would have to be limited, but I think it would be helpful.

It's a great app for easily increasing your vocabulary. Even without buying the premuim, it does that job quite well. It doesn't get down into the dirty and gritty like grammer, but you can get that for free with other apps. It's interface is nice and clean. All you need to really know is shown when you first open the app, making it a lot easier to understand what's going on.

I enjoy using this app, much more than duolingo or some other bs apps out there. The user interface is really clean and pleasing to the eye, I love how simple it is. My only complaint is how little options there are to choose from. I was interested in learning Japanese, but they were not one of the few options I had to choose from.

I just donloaded the app today and so far it seems swell. One thing I'm worried about is how it gives you seven days free for it's paided verson. Will it charge my card if I don't cancel it? Also, I clicked on the speaker button once to see what it was, then tried to cancel the talk into the microphone thing. Now on ever question it pops up again and I have to click cancel. I'm unsure if this is a bug, but so far it seems like a good language learning app.

When I started with this app I loved the features and concepts it introduced which were all unique from every other linguistic service, but today I realized that all the features I enjoy only come with paid subscription. Since all those features are no longer available for use, and there's a great lacking in variety, this is really is only another of the many mobile linguistic service.

This is my favorite language learning app for Android. It offers a wider vocabulary than most. Unfortunately, the price for the premium version is way too high. I'd pay $2-3 per month, but the cheapest option available is more than twice that much. So I withhold the fifth star and use the free version until the prices are more reasonable.

Started using it for French and thought it was pretty good. I liked the mix of different sentences to learn a word, and liked that you could highlight other words in the sentence and learn from context. When I started learning Korean, the app isn't as good. No highlight for definitions, a lot more repetitive, only does the formal conjugation, doesn't specify correct male or female (ie word for sister varies based on a boy or girl saying it).

The best measure of success is that I'm using this app almost every day for the past two+ months (5/week based on the metrics). I feel much more confident in my vocab. I haven't been able to stick with a language learning course since college. This app is great for folks with a bit of Spanish background who want to grow their vocabulary (me, for example). Could be good for others, too, but I'm not them, so I wouldn't know...

This app IS the reason I can conversate in Russian. I did Rosetta Stone for the basics, but this app takes my learning to an entirely higher level. I can discuss complicated subjects with confidence. I am not without error, but I'm making great progress. On the other hand, languages of which I speak with greater fluency (French) or want to make progress quickly despite being a total beginner (Spanish) have been frustrating with the 20 new word a day cap. I wish the app worked offline.

It's pretty good except for the fact that there are no conjugations below the sentence. I have go to search the web browser. It breaks the flow of the lesson. Some verb conjugations are in another location, but not all and not really easy to find. Once again it breaks up the flow of the lesson. I do like that I can set up my own list of specific words in a custom deck.

update: it contains a free trial, but most of the app is locked behind a paywall. I understand the need to earn revenue and since they do it really well I can't complain about it. still, I can't pay for it right now so I'll have to go back to avocards 😭 past review below most Korean vocabulary flashcard learning apps are fairly straightforward and repetitive, but if you're a beginner it exposes you to how those words are used in sentences, and makes you get used to typing in Korean! 10/10

I love this app mainly for the feature that informs you of who mich of the lanugae you can read. Where this app wins over others is the amount of languages it provides. Additonally, the grammer is important but I haven't thourouly explored it. That being said, depending the target language, there are better apps without a subscription (spanish) or cheaper options.
