Although the books are old, there's a very large selection and several categories. I like sci fi and ghost/horror stories. I listen to it every night to help me sleep, and while driving. May be worth downloading your favorite books. I listened to books on s long distance trip and was surprised by how much data I used. So if you have limited data, I'd download books on your wifi. I just use the free version. But you can get a paid plan or buy newer books. You'd enjoy this app.

It's probably one of the best free audiobook readers if you don't have a library card. It has a large selection of books with a bunch of different readers. There's only banner ads or the occasional 1 ad between chapters; but, it never gives more than the 1 ad between chapters. All the books are in the public domain, so the selection is technically limited. But there are thousands of stories to enjoy. I recommend this app to everyone who is looking for audiobooks, because this app is amazing.

Needs a "driving" interface. Also, when you reach the end of a chapter it should play next chapter automatically. It doesn't. You have to select the chapter. Also, I have to turn bluetooth off and back on on my phone every time I get in the car. Otherwise the book won't play through bluetooth. Very annoying.

Very nice audio-only book reader. Ads are a little annoying, but the $2.99 price for the no-ads version is a great value. Only offers books already in the public domain, and the reader and recording quality varies between books (and sometimes between sections of a book). Librivox has a decent selection of non-English-language book readings, and I find hearing a variety of voices, accents, and reading styles and speed helps with my language learning efforts. Recommended!

Great app for it being free. Had to drop my rating sadly, however. Audio now stops after about 2 minutes. Switches over to previous books. Tried to remedy by DLing the books, but DLs get to about 90% and stop. Tried clearing cache, reinstalling, etc, didn't help. Edit: It seems the problem has been rectified, review adjusted.

LibriVox is a great place to find older books read aloud! My favorite are the ones read by Elizabeth Klett. I would recommend this app to anyone, a highly satisfactory experience. The only thing I would change is the interface, no offense but it's a little ugly, haha. It's probably both the color scheme and the layout, for some reason it's just not very classy, couldn't exactly tell you why 😁

Very good selection of free audio books. But there is one very inappropriate ad that comes up, even with the "family friendly" option selected. I paid for the ad free version to get rid of this problem, and I will change my rating to 5 stars once this issue is addressed.

I love this app, we use it all the time. My kids listen for hours and beg to turn it on in the car. Lately though it closes after a few minutes and loses the place in the story. I've updated and that did not fix it. It's also hard to save books in the folders after a certain point.

People mention that the books are "old", but I think that's the point. No one is spending the time, let alone the money to make sure the classics are more accessible to the newer generations. Because of LibriVox and it's volunteers, I am getting to enjoy books I didn't get to read in school. Some of the reading styles are off-putting, but it's free so I'm not expecting a Broadway performance by any means. I hope LibriVox NEVER puts up newer books. This is a special place for the classics.

The only thing I don't like about this app is its persistent attempts to return to where it left off. I like to fall asleep to audiobooks, so I frequently want to return to the last bit I can remember. Not if this reader can help it! I reset it to where I want it to be. I attempt to go to another app, or to turn off my screen, so the story can play in the background. The app shuts off, and when I reopen it, it's gone back to the previous location. It will run in the background after some time.

This is a nice interface in some ways, and the adverts are not intrusive. However, the ability to navigate forward or backward within any text is severely limited and sometimes maddening. The time elapsedb on the time bar is often wildly out of sinc with the actual recording. The app sometimes jumps chapters for reasons I still haven't figured out. After a few weeks, I'm looking for a better alternative.

This is by far the app I use the most of all my audio apps. It's so user friendly. It has a wide array of free audiobooks, and I love the classics. However, it has so much more to offer, like old-time radio - from music to historical to drama and comedy - this is a treasure trove of fantastic listening!

Funny thing, before I paid for the Ad Free version, It used to be great, but for the past few months it hasn't worked properly. It does not play the book continuously, it just stops after each chapter. You have to click the next chapter, and even the it may or may not play.

An invaluable resource. All great books. The readers can vary in quality, but they all try really hard to provide the text with the needed mood. This app is particularly good at organizing and presenting the recordings in a professional, pleasing way.

It was better when it was ad free. Greedy app needs to sell advertising for free books read by volunteers for free? Thank you for your quick response.I understand everything comes at a price. Especially in the world today. Could you at turn down the volume level of the adds they are painfully loud in my ear buds. I listen to books all day at work

The app now has really long delays after the chapter. There are annoying ads. And it will not continue play from one chapter to the next. If you try and use the sleep timer when the chapter ends the dead are could last for an hour. Seems to be something wrong maybe with the last update but it does not work like it used to I will have to find a new app.

I have sent multiple emails about issues with the app. I never receive any response at all. Looking like I need to find another app to use. Book Design doesn't seem to care about it's customers. Terrible technical bug adding time to chapters which equals dead air. Initially time for chapter shows correctly until it begins audio. Leaves 45 mins up to almost 2 hours between chapters.

The rewind and fast forward buttons are extremely glitchy in audiobooks with chapters, so trying to rewind by a few seconds might make you go back an entire chapter or more and have no way of figuring out where you were before. Other than that, no problems.... As long as you don't want to ever rewind to re-listen to a sentence or something.

I have the paid version to remove ads. I've been using Librivox for years and recently, there have been a few really bad bugs. 1. Audio stops after the section /chapter ends (not related to sleep timer). The time continues, but no audio. 2. Sleep timer often Doesn't work. I set it for 90 minutes and it plays for hours through to the end. 3. Sometimes I'll start a book, usually in the middle, then minimize the app, or lock my screen and the audio stops, and resets to the first chapter. Please fix

I love this app when it works. Unfortunately, I continue to experience glitches over and over again. For awhile it was working perfectly. Now it's back to having issues with the player - certain chapters are supposed to be 20 minutes long, but are then suddenly 56 minutes long. At other times, I suddenly can't skip forward or backward. It often tries to reset to a specific chapter/time stamp when I'm attempting to navigate. I see others have similar issues and am hoping we get an update soon!
