Excellent! My daughter loves it! She asks to play all the time. Great for reading, comprehension and spelling. I use Duolingo's other language app so I shouldn't be surprised that they'd manage to make reading so easy and fun for kids while also hitting grade level standards.

This app is amazing for toddlers and kids. My grandson is almost 4 and not quite speaking yet. He spent 1 session on this app and then I hear him say the sight word "see". This is a HUGE thing for him. To find an app that actually works and keeps his attention, is such a relief. He loses interest in things quickly so this is a refreshing change. Thank you so much for this app that actually works and from what I can see so far, it's free. If there is a yearly fee, I'd pay it. It's worth it to us.

I have more than one child. This app is made for children who are way too young to have their own phones. It would be better if I could make more than one account for each child. Also the stories section is in a random order. They are not in alphabetical order or in the order they are unlocked. This makes that section unnecessarily difficult to navigate. We haven't used the app long, but are enjoying it for the most part.

I love the app but on multiple devices, through multiple updates, only the top half of the letters show. This isn't good for letter recognition when suddenly you're being presented with something new & half of it is missing. Otherwise we love this app.

My PreK child is reading at 2nd grade level because of this app. It took us about 1 to 2 years to get through all of lessons and by the end she was able to read at a 2nd grade level. We are so impressed. I wish there were more apps like this or the continuation of them because now we feel like there is a void.

This app is awesome. My 3 year old is reading and spelling. HOWEVER the adult password is a simple read the numbers. Unlike other programmes that is a more difficult math problem. And he was on level 9 and he's managed to delete his progress on his tablet but not on my phone. I don't want him to have my phone 😩 he won't start at level 1 again it's super simple.

The app is great I just wish there was a way for the parents to open the app and see the overall progress report in the settings part. I get weekly emails on his progress but they've recently not added up and are inconsistent so I would like to be able to see the over all progress. Please look into adding this as a feature.

English only. Please don't REQUIRE name & age if we want to skip it, esp if an account isn't created. Let that be optional in settings, and changeable by the parent. The lessons are good. Free and zero ads, as appropriate! Intro story it's long, unnecessary, unrelated, dumb, and reinforces character traits I do NOT want in my child. Lose the intro!

This is a rare high-quality app that it is ad-free (and free to users). There are a few elements that could use improvement. • This really needs a landscape mode.on tablet • I wish they would introduce the picture icons before using them as answer choices. • The questions in "stories" would.be better if they were textual, based on the story and not -as some are- just based on the illustrations. • We had a few graphic glitches with glyphs not appearing completely when showing a big letter.

Some minor fixes would do this app wonders. I love the content, but when using this app with my 3yo, he often hits the back arrow or home button on my phone. This is because the blue "next" arrow is directly above these buttons. If this button were further separated from these buttons we wouldn't have as much trouble with him backing out of the app. Tracing letters is kind of messed up and the letters that kind of explode and you have to put together are so tiny it's too hard for little fingers.

Cute but minor adjustment for the youngest learners are needed. An option for full screen or game mode to remove the bottom navigation buttons. My 3 yr olds are new to phones/tablets and in trying to tap the blue arrow the often tap a bottom navigation buttons. 2) saving lesson progress when you accidentally exit out. Coupled with #1, we've restarted some lessons mutliple times.

I downloaded Duolingo ABC to teach my 5-year-old daughter to read. It helped her grasp the concept quickly. The app is great overall, but needs improvement. Update: They fixed the letter tracing. Not sure if they fixed the story book lessons which say "pick the words with a" but it should specify they want words that start with a. Only thing that could make this app better is a flash cards with learned vocabulary, letter sounds, blends, digraphs, etc.

WOW!! I LOVE this app!! My 4 year old loves it too! I love that it goes over how to make the letters, and she smiles as she reads the books and plays her games. Love the highlighted word feature to concentrate the child's attention to the word they're "reading". She has blasted through 60+ levels and we've only had it a few days! 😅🤣 idk if that's good or bad. Haha!

Amazing app for young kids! My daughter began kindergarten this year. We've been doing a few lessons every night and I'm shocked by how much she's picked up! Almost three months in class and she wasn't sounding out words yet, but 4 days with this app and she's picking up words from books she's sounded out herself. I also love that it's ad-free and simple to use.

This has been amazing so far for my 3yo! I love the variations in exercises, and she gets so excited to keep learning. One thing that's kind of annoying is that when tracing the letters, it'll sometimes skip ahead in the path so my 3yo isn't actually tracing ('m' for example, she doesn't have to finish the bumps down to the bottom before it registers as going up again). I'd rather she not be learning those loopholes lol but it's been so good otherwise that we'll definitely keep using it.

My boy has really liked it. Even though he complains sometimes "not duo again!" Even then he has fun and typically does more than one level...but... Is that it?! He just got through the whole thing and... I was expecting some story thing to happen with the library or a new section to open up. He got to the end and... Nothing. That's it. Just reset the data and go again?

I'm a youth programmer at a large library system & a parent to a preschooler. I love this app. My preschooler is completely engaged and loves it. It's a perfect balance of stories, writing, learning to sound out letters/words and sight words. I can't wait to watch her progress through more levels. We finish level 1 in the first weekend. I've been telling all the caregivers at my programs about this app. I'm hoping you make ones for learning other languages too. Thanks for being ad free!

Masterful. My toddler loves it, and the creators really know how to make learning fun. I was worried it would get too hard too quickly, but even if that does happen, kiddo can always go back and repeat lessons. Something for devs to fix: when the letters are scattered and you're supposed to drag them back to the word, the letters gets smaller each time you touch them. Eventually they get so tiny you can barely see them! My kiddo's always bringing the tablet to me so I can fix it for her.

Our son just turned 5 and he is already reading well, far better than most 6 year olds. He can often read words up to 10 characters long, sometimes longer. Here's the thing: nobody has taught him to read. The only logical deduction is that he's learned from this app, which he's done a fair amount and enjoys, though sporadically (once every 2 - 3 weeks?). The only other possibility is that he taught himself to read. He's only reached Level 5 (of 10) on the app. An unbelievably amazing app!

Hi, first of all, wonderful app, but can we get a parental secret code feature to lock and unlock sections and access the settings. My 3.5 year old can read all the numbers (seven, one, nine etc..)to unlock the levels and change settings. Duo is really great for the Phonics aspect, but having a secret grownup pin would be helpful, so my little skipper can't skip to level 10.
