Almost there. As well as being a decent camera app it's great for converting photos in to B&W photos, but the lack of integration stops it from being efficient. I would much rather use my own gallery to look at my photos and then be able to "share" to the app. The integrated gallery view is laggy and static. Use the Android default to select images would have been more elegant. I like the simplistic interface in the other sections though. So 2,9 stars.

Edit - this app need to take advantage of the new phones with multiple lenes! Really good black and white control. Can capture nice tones and moods using the supplied simulations. The user interface is clunky and not that intuitive. I would suggest to make this a paid app and invest in a better user experience. Export and review functionality is lacking. Still the best B&W Android on the market!

The app is great. I love it. I'd like to support the developers. As it is one time purchase, not some ridiculously expensive subscription model, I proceed to purchase all the filter & the textures packages. But that's when the problem begins... I got all the filters alright. But I couldn't find any of the textures... please tell me how to find it.

a bit of uncharted territory, inline help wise. app crashes sometimes, but that's not unexpected after a rewrite. took me 5 minutes to find myself familiar with the controls after that it was pure joy to photograph everything. nice textures and filter. recommended purchases: all filter, all textures. both for ~10€ at time of writing. best this side of Adobe lightroom.

I honestly feel that you are planning to shut this app down. There have been no new updates for a very long time. I love using this app but lately it crashes everytime I open it. And pictures aren't getting saved either. They get saved as blank grey images. If you are shutting down this app then please do it already. And if that is not plan then please do something about the frequent crashes.

It's heading the right way but the app really needs some improvement. Personally, I love the images that come out of the app, however, it's slow to respond and not intuitive to use. I'd like to see a change to the adjustments option, when you're trying to take an image and want to adjust contrast or something, the positioning and access just isn't right, it's also slow to respond. There's also lag when I'm taking images. Also, please add a timer.

Looks like great app! However I can not find a way to set the focal length (crop factor), which is crucial for me. I can change it while shooting, but it resets to wide angle every time I go back to the app, so unfortunately it is not usable for me. Also, I noticed that the photos are not stored as JPGs in any folder, only inside the app, and when you uninstall it they are gone! So be careful.

I use it extensively as it is one of the best app for b&w photography. A few missing point is that you can't zoom in to examine exactly the results of the filters you add. Update! When i open the files i create with this app in my desktop monitor, the quality is horrible.. Even if i use 100% output quality, the layers style is of a low quality and smear all the image! Is good only for smartphones display.

Excellent monochrome camera app for Android. However, more basic functionality such as sensor aspect-ratio choice, being able to choose a particular cameraphone lens, shutter speed, and ISO, and RAW image processing should be provided. At least a lossless saving option should be there, such as TIFF or PNG, if not RAW.

It's growing on me, particularly as it is a valuable ffeature to be able to add virtual filters, but would be helpful if the text indicating the colour filters could have greater contrast, or even be colour coded - as they are difficult to see, but I suppose otherwise they might obscure the image. The gallery is a little unintuitive. It would be good to be able to change the aspect ration of shots.

A truly excellent app particularly useful these days when few use b/w. This app helps you create excellent pictures and can greatly enhance your understanding of color and light. This review remains the same now in 2021. If you can produce a really fine b/w photo you can also handle color. The reverse is not true. This app is a genuine gem.

For non-photographer to explore b&w: easy pleasing interface but is missing critical info/control: No histogram, and no info or control of shutter speed or iso. So you just have to trust the auto exposure and squint and guess while you're editing whether or not shadows or highlights are blocked out, and that'll depend on your phone's screen brightness. The ability to switch out digitally simulated color lens filters on a black and white live view, though, is really cool and a great way to learn.

I've been using it for more than a year and it's a great app for b & w photo editing. It's a very simple minimalistic interface which doesnt take too long to figure out and get used too plus it has no ads!! Love the aesthetic of the app and love what you can make with it. This is always my to go app when i want make a photo black and white.

Fairly good, but has limitations. Hypocam only utilizes the main and selfie cameras (I never use the selfie camera). Being able to use all of my phone's cameras would be a big benefit. It would be great if there was a provision to shoot faux B&W Infrared. It was in hopes that this ability was part of the app that I downloaded it. I use this technique frequently, so it would be great to have an app that would allow pre-viewing the scene as B&W Infrared before capture and processing.

Ok, so this app takes great pictures.. But everything else is terrible. They try to have you do everything from the app, and it's bad. No help or instruction sections. It WILL NOT save to your phone automatically. You have to go to share>other and upload to Google photos, And despite being able to select multiple photos, it will only allow you to do It one at a time. Very awkward to use. The UI is garbage, it's pretty, but laggy as heck and awful to use

I'm using a Pixel 7 Pro. I am really loving this app. there are many settings, filters and textures to create endless styles of B&W photos. I was confused over pricing and different paid packs. I bought the "all filters" pack but then I saw some individual ones they still wanted money for. I bought them all but Wonder if I was essentially double charged. So double check exactly which filters and textures you bought. I should have looked closer. I just don't know if I paid twice for some or not.

Love It. The Best. Soon as I installed I purchased all the filter packs. Apps are so easy to support when they do what they're supposed to, and Ive taken more photo's and actually done entire edits inside of this app ALONE. Perfect! update: Just reinstalled this app after a year or so of not having it annnddd Im guessing there was an upgrade that rearranged this whole app. The Navigation is.... crazy. I dont know whats what. Keep it simple!

Really liked the photo filters. But not so intuitive interface, and no instructions or hints on how to use the app overall. It also wouldn't save the photos after hitting the check mark. So either save is disabled or I just couldn't figure out how to save. Which is why instructions or hints are needed. Deleted app, not looking for a puzzle to solve.

The black & white and images are good. Everything else is bad. There are no instructions, help, FAQs, nothing to tell you anything about using the app and settings. It has a dead link to the website b/c it's spelled wrong. When you figure that out and get to the site, it isn't formatted for mobile and doesn't render in desktop mode on Chrome either. There is nothing useful there other than some weird image that doesn't load, links for email, two social media accounts, and About. Didn't try the contact links but I'd be shocked if they worked. The About section is some ambiguous blurb about a collective of photographers and their "stories" but good luck finding them b/c guess what, no link or explanation of how. I've been in IT for 20+ years and haven't seen or worked with a single developer who could write good code or software that worked right if they fail at everything else involved with an app. It's as sloppy and mistake ridden as their non-existent attention to detail and work ethic. Obviously I uninstalled it and I don't recommend it. It isn't worth the hassle or time. There are tons of camera apps that are more professional and have support that do B&W very well.

Pretty good! Makes me want to pull out my old K1000! Annoying things: 1) Camera settings are lost between uses. Wish I didn't have to turn on the yellow filter each time I open the app. 2) Wish the images were just saved to the phone storage rather than accessable only from the app until xfered. 3) Blacks get crushed too easily: the curves on the exposure slider need to be adjusted to maintain detail in the darks...and in the whites for that matter. But for the price, I'm really happy with it!
