The app idea is great, the theme of the app of great, the functionality is useful, the chat feature is something from around the 2000's, slow and painful, if they upgraded this feature it would be a great app, also be good if you could change to people that have stayed at the hostel previously before booking as I've just found out from a chat after booking that a hostel isn't great. Apart from that great app

There is no option to change or cancel booking dates. I had booked for 3 nights, initially, but later on, just before coming to hostel, I wanted to change it to 2 nights. There was no option available for this and no customer support also available to reach out to. This was a horrendous experience. Otherwise, the hostels were well maintained.

this website and app is an excellent resource for searching and booking specifically for hostels. I only have two major complaints. 1. there is no option to pay for the entire booking, they only allow you to pay partial and pay the rest when you get to the hostel. 2. they dont display the full amount of the hostel on the confirmation page they only show the separated amount that you paid and what you still owed making it more difficult to divide the cost between other people you are travelling wi

I give this app a one-star rating as it would be nice if you could search for accommodations by map especially if you're planning a road trip. Unfortunately, this app doesn't provide that feature. While it does provide a map, it only shows the accommodations available for the city that you searched for, not anything outside the city or in surrounding areas.

EDIT*** problems fixed*** Like the programmer said, the updates have been made and this app is working wonderfully again! Thank goodness, this is my favorite app to use for Hostels and I almost felt lost without it. Still could use some updates on the chatting function it didn't allow to me use it in Florence-or I couldn't find how to make it work, but it worked great in Berlin! Thank you for communicating and trying to make traveling easier.

Thank you for making the app much worse with your atrocious update (I will now only be using booking. I was on the fence before, now it's clear which one is better). They stripped away the good features, such as the ability to scan through the global map and quickly look up older reservations. Providing hostel recommendations to fellow travellers is now much more cumbersome.

The app several years ago worked perfectly. Now, I am unable to access bookings or view previously viewed properties. I couldn't use any of my debit cards. The app has some major problems and I refuse to use it. The only way I can find that I actually booked a hostel is through my email but then canceling or contacting property is another hassle. Really poor update and app. And I hope these problems get resolved. Has lots of potential to be good again.

There's no way to see past/completed bookings and see whether or not the amounts (deposit, full payment, etc.) Have been properly paid and settled in full. SOOO much financial clarity, detail, and TRANSPARENCY lacking in the app, it's mind boggling. Needs to be fixed urgently. Also: customer service is abysmal - I've been waiting weeks for a response on improper charges made to my debit card and NADA.

Great app that makes searching and booking easier! It also allows you to meet with other people in chats beforehand. I absolutely love this app and use it whenever I solo travel. Heck, some of these places, I'd even have a friend book their own stay with me! So worth it for socialization. You just have to do your research on the hostels themselves because hostelworld essentially is creating a search engine and a profile that allows you to connect with hostels around you!

This app is a must-have for any traveller. It is super easy to use and is the best app for accommodation on a budget. They also have deals and a translation service but I have not used those yet. This is not the app to use if you want hotels however, as there are not many hotels listed. The only weird thing is that you cannot change the list order when searching but it does a good job sorting for you. Great app.

I like the app a lot except for the search feature. I want to be able to search an entire state/region rather than only a specific city. I would also LOVE to have a rating system for if a place is a party hostel or not. It's challenging to differentiate from ratings alone. Also it would be nice to know maximum occupancy of a hostel. If a place can hold 600 guests I'd rather not stay there.

The app itself is OK, although I regularly struggle to successfully book places. It just shows the processing page and then seems to time out. I also get very annoyed when I get app notifications for staying in places or cities when I dont book. Particularly given that I often wanted to book, but was unable to. So the fact that I cant use it, and then get pestered for not using it results in it getting 1 star.

I used to love this app and used it consistently for travel throughout 2019 and beyond till now. They recently did an overhaul of the app design and they took away Favoriting and having lists of hostels of the ones you favorited. It now makes it so much more difficult to keep track of the ones you want to stay in, the ones you liked when reading descriptions, and harder to narrow down where to stay when you can't click the simple heart to favorite a hostel and see it when scrolling through.

Used to be a big fan of this app, but suddenly all my lists for planning upcoming trips are gone--i had spent hours reviewing properties & bookmarking the best places. Just gone & I need to book in the next few days! SO FRUSTRATING! Can no longer view any of the properties I've stayed at previously or even the cities or countries. Clearly didn't care at all about the user's needs when designing this garbage update. I dont have any reason to use this app anymore. I'll look for something else.

Edit: well it seems they have removed all the features that made it a good app in the most recent update. Navigation is more confusing and its no longer user friendly, no more map view, removed almost all the useful filters, can't save lists, at least they still have reviews??? Why do you do this? Original review: Best app for finding hostels. The clean and user friendly, map view, filters, lists, and user reviews make finding what you want super easy.

They absolutely need to bring back the ability to create lists and save favorites. This is how I plan my trips ahead of time, and I've actually lost a ton of my research for a trip I've got coming up next week. I have no idea why they would have removed this. You also can't see a map of locations anymore, so it's fairly useless to try and book a decent location without having something else open to check every single one. I'll be using a different app until they fix this.

I used to love this app, but it just updated and seems to have gotten rid of all the features I loved the most. You can no longer save favorites or make lists of hostels which is SO frustrating. Also, you used to be able to click the location and read written directions on how to get to the hostel from the owners before you book. It was so helpful seeing thos instructions before booking, not just having Google maps.
