My child really enjoyed the old version of this app. It was more colorful and easier to use. The new one is not saving his progress consistently which is very frustrating. It is also difficult to understand some of the words being spoken. Both my husband and I sat there for 5 minutes trying to figure out what word he should be spelling. Overall the program itself has been great and my 5 year old is reading in the 2nd grade section. The new app though is disappointing.

This app sucks. Tried to cancel subscription and they said to log into the dashboard. When I tried, i couldn't log in. So I sent for a password reset and they never sent the email. So i checked the junk email and spam, and nothing. They make it difficult for you to end service. Good thing i was able to canceled through the play store.

I wish I would have looked at the reviews closer before purchasing. I've heard such great things about hooked on phonics but unfortunately the app doesn't work. It won't say the word he needs to spell, it freezes all the time (about once a min) where I need to shut the app down and restart, and it will say the word but won't allow him to complete the word as it gives the error sound. I spent $50 for an application that doesn't work. A little frustrating.

I purchased a Hooked on Phonics subscription for my son. He has autism and we started late, he was 7. Reading has been very difficult for him. We did a year and a half of just letter sounds and he was also held back in first grade. He was struggling so much I turned to HOP as a final push. I wish I would have started here! My son looked forward to playing on the app and also enjoyed the mailed material. He went from just spelling his name to actually reading. I am amazed! Would recommend!!

I decided to try hooked on phonics for $1.00 for the first month, and I'm waiting on the work books and stuff to come in the mail. So far the app has quite a few bugs that I've noticed, one is the new create an avatar feature, another issue is not being able to open settings or change my password from default password, and the interface could use a lot of work, will update review further into using this service.

I'll be honest. I used to think this was one big money scheme and that it was just effort on the kids part. Then I needed some kind of reading platform, I thought we'd be doing all the work. BUT it's fun for him. He loves doing it every day, there's variety, he gets "trophies". It requires very little effort on our parts other than for him to pay attention. IN ONLY 3 MONTHS of using it, he went from only being able to recognize the word "dog" to reading Green Eggs and Ham by himself! WORTH MONEY

When looking for a program that would work for my children, I researched several apps and programs. After days of looking and reading Hooked on Phonics own Everytime! Compared to cost and what is available is was the best. Once I got the kids on the program they feel in love. My child that has speech problems is speaking clearer and enjoying learning now. Before it was difficult for him to learn and enjoy it. Now when it is time to sit and do HoP he is excited.

Your app stinks!!!! I have had a subscription for a very long time. I finally decided to try out the app for my granddaughter. I've been trying to login/sign up, login/sign up, reset password, login/sign up, error, reset password, this email is already in use, reset password, sign in/error, on and on we go. There is no where I can click to get help.

The new version is awful. My daughter loved the old version and learned so quickly. She's in first grade and can read beyond second grade level. We were still going through hooked on phonics for practice and reinforcement. She's struggling with a lot of it because it's confusing and boring. It makes no sense. Why would you ruin an amazing and loved program? I think everyone who experienced the old version wants it back. It actually worked and kids wanted to do it. Please listen to us!

I love that I got a progress report on the levels completed and what needs more work. The cute animals and songs make the app fun and keeps my child interested, I am glad I signed up as part of our homeschool curriculum it is a fun and engaging app and exactly what we needed to improve reading skills! Thank you hooked on phonics! Looking forward to the hooked on spelling games!

I honestly may look for another app that does what I'm looking for. The pre read section needs the ability to click on letters/ pictures and hear it as many times as you want. Then once the kid feels confident they are hearing and understanding the right sound then they can drag the letter to where it goes. Also, to say lion every time you click on lion for example. Without this feature, the kid is just guessing instead of actually making a learning connection. Big big bummer. This needs change

They will sign you up quickly but when you want to cancel it's like pulling teeth. I've been trying to cancel since January by the they are still hitting my account even though the children no longer use the app that didn't help them. Find something else for your children. They enjoyed the games for a little while but it did not help them read better.

The concept is great. My son loves the games. Some games we have to guess because the game doesn't accept the right answer. I am a native English speaker, so I know the right answers. I don't know if they have non English speakers helping create the games or Ai, but it is affecting my child's confidence. He is accelerating his learning, but losing confidence on things he knows is not ok. Today, it was words ending in OX. If you use the app, make sure you're available when there are questions.

I loved this app, but the new version is not good. No bright colors and my kids that need the pre reading are now bored. No Big reading show! They loved it and were telling me letters and such. Now it is just practicing letters and they are not wanting to do it. My older kid who is reading is doing well still but it's hard for her to find how to go back and forth to practice more. Also it lets her go forward without finishing! I want the bright colors and more songs back!

I was super excited to try this out with my 3 1/2 year old. He was excited at first, too, but that quickly diminished. It's the same games over and over and over. I know you need repetition, but add more games! He loved the songs but after 2-3 of the games he's just over the whole thing, so I can't even get him through an entire lesson in one sitting. Also, to click into the songs and games is so finicky it's absolutely annoying, and my poor son could never click it right to even get into them

3 stars because he was showing progress before issues started. Originally purchased the app before they changed it. Since it has changed we've had lots of issues of progress not being saved. I also recently have had issues with loading. It seems to get to 33% and sit there for about 5 minutes before either it times out or opens up but runs slow. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it more than once. I even tried it on my other devices and we are running to into the same issue.

Terrible new version, avoid!!! You would think they would make a newer better version, why would you change the whole app into something that looks old and outdated... The letters are tiny now, the colors are so opaque and the main menu is so confusing! It's very repetitive and it no longer attracts my son's attention. I pay about 15 dollars a month and he was showing great progress but since they changed the app he gets bored easily. Save your money!

As many others have said, the app will consistently freeze on your kiddo -- which is very frustrating. The program itself is wonderful when working correctly but it currently is not working well. Also frustrated their help team did not mention that it was a known-issue when I reached out. It felt as if it was only an issue for myself. It was not until a week and a half later after I re-emailed them did I find out that it was already known about without an approximate date of being fixed.

App keeps crashing on the math portion. Bought this for my kid to use. If we minimize the app, to try to come back to the same spot, we have to start all over unless we are working on the phonics specifically. The spelling portion does ok. It doesn't crash but won't stay open if the app is minimized. But the math portion is just ridiculous and the entire app crashes when we try to use it.

This program was outstanding for years; however, the current problem prevents the problem from working on laptops. The larger screen of laptops makes it much easier and enjoyable to use. The customer service is no longer as robust as it once was and you can no longer reach anyone by phone but must resolve issues via text messages. I'm paying over $16 a month and I am no longer satisfied. Will reevaluate in June to see if I can load old CDs to my Windows 10 laptop. If not, then I dill cancel.
