More About Hinge Dating App: Match & Date

HINGE, THE DATING APP DESIGNED TO BE DELETED
Hinge is the dating app for people who want to get off of dating apps. With profiles that show your personality through text, photos, video, and voice, you have unique conversations that lead to great dates. And it’s working. Currently, people on Hinge go on a date every three seconds. Additionally, in 2022, we were the fastest-growing dating app in the US, UK, and Canada.

HOW WE GET YOU OFF HINGE
When it comes to online dating, people are so busy matching that they’re not actually connecting, in person, where it counts. Hinge is on a mission to change that. So we built a dating app that’s designed to be deleted. Here’s how:

💌 We quickly learn your type. You’ll only be introduced to the best people for you.

🌐 We give you a sense of someone’s personality. You’ll get to know potential dates through their unique answers to prompts, as well as information like religion, height, politics, dating intentions, relationship type, and much more.

🗣 We make it easy to start a conversation. Every match begins by someone liking or commenting on a specific part of your profile.

✅ We want you to feel confident about meeting people in person and going on great dates. Selfie Verification makes it easier for daters on Hinge to ensure that they are who they say they are.

🎤 We ask how your dates are going. After exchanging phone numbers with a Match, we’ll follow up to hear how your date went so we can make better recommendations in the future.

TERRIBLE app, I don't know why it's so popular. If you're a straight male with a verified profile, clear pictures and a complete profile with prompts, then don't expect to get ANY matches. Hinge is useless & their algorithm is skewed & biased. I have done everything from refreshing my profile with new pics, changing prompts and not filtering preferences..nothing helps. Hinge is a joke & embarrassment 👎🤡💩

The app is decent, though I wish there were an ability to narrow things down to people within the same state instead of just distance from a specific point. It's really annoying and frustrating when living in CT and more than half of my matches show up from NY. Please add this feature/ability!!!!

This app limits profile views and likes daily. It shows that there's nobody that matches my criteria, but I don't have anything besides the age range turned on, and my age range stretches a wide span. The "standouts" section is supposed refresh daily, but the same 2 people have shown for the past 3 days. I have had it for a week and only had 2 matches. Don't waste your money!

Stuck in a loop unable to verify myself. Changed my profile photo. It asked me to verify myself again. I've done the process dozens of times in different lightning. The video looks crisp while I film. Then it tells me it's not clear and shows a fuzzy photo of me. This must be an issue with the app. It's infuriating

The app used to be decent but now it's a chore. Preferences used to be available at first but now they're blocked behind a paywall. You used to be able to tell if you ran out of likes. Now when you run out of likes and try to like a profile, the screen asks if you want to go for Plus or Premium. Not even an option for roses. And if you refuse, the like will be lost and you just have to get lucky to run into that profile again. Used to be good but now it's more focused on greed.

Edited after a few years of using the app for free. It's garbage now, I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way. After learning that Hinge uses AI to scan the faces of your photos to match you with "people of your attraction level" I gave up. That's a lie, they are doing that to make you feel frustrated so you buy premium. Total scam. That and they reduced your free right swipes to only like 6-8 a day!

After a few months; I can say at least for me it functions. As for its purpose, and on free version; It's a game of chance and choice. You are 1 on possibly 1000s trying to get an individual's attention through engagement on their profile, which will likely be either overlooked or just plain unseen; The monetized "Roses* would help but not by much. My biggest gripe with this app is how certain major dealbreakers are locked behind a paywall, for example "have children" is not able to be X'd off.

Glitches in messaging make this app unusable. Works well for about a week and then you get notifications of new messages, but they don't populate when you look for them. Sometimes all chat history dissappears, sometimes the messages screen just loads forever. I had a paid account and contacted support, they acted surprised this was an issue (based on other reviews, what a load of BS), "escalated" my claim and then stopped responding. Don't waste your money.

Most of the people on this app are not friendly. Matches will accept the like and then not respond to a normal conversation starter. It could be in part due to the fact that the messenger regularly double sends texts or doesn't send them. Seems like many people are on the app for an ego boost, not to meet people. But it is nice you can accept likes right away without paying.

The "most compatible" option seems to be the worst-designed feature on the entire app. The whole feature seems designed to pair people up with those they would never match with, and the entire goal feels like it's for getting you to open the app, not pair you with someone who would convince you to stop using it. This feature will almost *always* show you people you're incompatible with due to physical, emotional, or mental attraction, never somebody you're compatible with. Terrible feature fr

Buggy as hell. Sometimes decides there's not a soul that meets your filters even though there were plenty just minutes earlier. And no, paying for a subscription doesn't help, so don't bother. The latest update changed "active today" and "new here" to weird toggle filters, and if you toggle them too much it cuts you off and won't show you any more profiles. Just worse and worse with every update.

UI is nice, limited likes makes you consider more than just swiping and any app that your able to send an initial message is nice. However the apps algorithm "knows you" and has a standouts section (you get 1 "free" rose a week, and cross your fingers they actually respond) Extra points against it, most if not all the people you'd genuinely want to connect with will never rotate out of said standouts.

Pros: This app has a cleaner interface and is easy to go through. Cons: the notification stopped the second day in, when I installed the app... my chats were disappearing in less than 12 hours as they were opened, and even if matches texted me at night, as soon as I open in the morning all of it gone like no one ever reached out. Where is the support button? I dont need non frequently asked questions... I needed someone to explain what's going on instead. So,my experience was not pleasant.

The algorithm has been substantially altered in order to keep you addicted. It used to be good; I met great people on there in the past. But now it's different. Everyone on there is generic, not a good match; if it was consistently like that then that would be fine. The problem is that after you use up all your swipes for the day, suddenly the person who shows up is a PERFECT match for you. If you wait until you get more swipes w/out paying, that person NEVER shows up again. Obvious manipulati

I'm stuck in a sign-up loop. After the voice recording "qoute" thing. It says I already made a recording and can be changed later. Then it's stuck in the sign-up section. I can't go back to photo selection, written "qoutes", or any other settings. Seems like a interesting dating app. But if it doesn't even function correctly it's pretty pointless.

TL;DR: Stick with the basic app and save your money It's a decent dating app but I feel like the premium features are extremely lacking for the price. I tried out Hinge X for a little while and it's not worth it. Essentially everything stays the same except you get to control more filters, unlimited likes, and your likes are now "premium". That's it. No extra roses and no boosts. That, and I didn't really see much improvement over the standard app.

For context: straight male, 30s,free version. Interface is easy to use, wish they would let you type more though. I used a variety of pics and prompts, picky in sending likes or roses and always sent a message with likes and usually and open ended question too. Also all my prompts were open ended as well and put captions on all pics. Almost a year, maybe 5 matches total, went out with 2 for a month or so, both ended amicably. I hoped for more in that timeframe to be honest but overall not bad

Absolutely horrible app. I can't even believe I paid that much for the silly subscription service they have, it was terrible. Through the entire subscription, I only found one match, which was also horrible in itself. Extremely overpriced for what you're getting. Even for being a subscriber, they won't even give you a discount on the roses thing that basically helps you stand out to someone. At least give a rose or two, just for subscribing. I wouldn't recommend this app.

29 straight male. Starts off great, couple good matches and a few responses. Then after a couple months it just falls off. No more matches. No more responses. Signed up for the top tier subscription thinking it would help. But still no improvement. Super frustrating. If you use the app and subscribe for a month or two. Use it. Then move on. Don't keep throwing money at it. It feels like it's designed to just manipulate you into paying more. And I'm sure it is.

Pros: lots of options to customize profiles, including using audio and video, which is a nice touch. Cons: preferences on things like age and distance will be almost entirely ignored. The app immediately started showing me people outside my preferred ranges just as much as those within them. Also, there is a "standouts" section where they put all the most popular profiles, but you can only like them with "roses" that you have to pay extra for, even if you already have a paid membership.
