In my opinion Hey Japan is much better at teaching Japanese to anyone, than for example Duolingo. So far i have only used it for a few days but I am very satisfied with how much the application teaches you. Much detail! love it! I definitely will encourage anyone that is trying to learn Japanese, to try Hey Japan! Thank You to the developing team! Honestly, I can not say anything I don't like about the application.

Just ok. I paid for the full version and have been using it for 3 months now as a supplement to my book learning. My main issues are: A) English translations are VERY poor VERY often and I have to try extra hard to figure out what they're trying to get at. And B) the developer never answered my emails about glaring errors, and the "reports" you make in app NEVER get fixed. It's ok, but unless you feel like teaching English to the app while attempting to learn Japanese, I'd try something else.

One of the best Japanese learning apps that I've tried so far. It offers many features that Duolingo doesn't, such as speaking practice, stroke practice for both kanji and kana, flashcards, flagging words you want to review, and theory/word explanations. It is also very easy to use. The fact that it focuses on N5 and N4 allows it to really delve into the material. Definitely worth the price for the full course.

So far I've only started with learning the alphabet. While I've never used a languange learnig app before, this one seems pretty intuitive. I was able to navigate its simple layout to find a good place to start. And, this app is even helpful for those who have even a basic knowledge of the Japanese languange. You can choose to skip over whole sections if you think you know enough.

Quite happy with it. I have tried a few other recommended apps and I keep coming back to this one every time. It isn't perfect but it is more engaging and fun. You learn by doing but it isn't too many new additions too fast. Though I do wish there was an option on the review to see the sentences used translated so I can see what it is saying and why I might have trouble with it. Over all though, for a free app it has me hooked. Thinking seriously of buying it.

This app is amazing. Ive been looking for a way to learn japanese for months, and this has by far been the most helpful. The only issue is you have to pay to fully learn the language. But you can learn quite a bit before you have to pay. And the premium membership is very worth it, as well as they have a lifetime membership. Which i bought for 20 dollars, but usually its 70 - 80. So fairly cheap. Plus the ads aren't obnoxious, which is always a plus.

I really like this app and it's pretty helpful (though not always accurate in the translations), but lately the app keeps freezing whenever I open a lesson. The screen turns black and I can't click on anything, this has been happening for about a week and I can't click the customer support button because it won't work like every other button I press. Please help

I found this app to be an excellent review tool to use in conjunction with other apps. I am focused on Japanese. This app is similar to Duolingo. i like it for the same reasons. The uncluttered interface, the clean graphics and the simple lesson plans make it easier to learn than apps with many distractions. The rewards system makes learning fun.

The app is great, the spirit, content, I was happy to subscribe to premium. But the content passes quite fast, and if you follow the cursus there is no real time to assimilate. Also there are a few bugs. It's OK, that happens, but it's just so impossible to get realistic answers from the support 😔 edit: that's the point, i already contact the support plenty of times, through the means in-app. hence my comment 😔

Only teaches Japanese, so it does a really good job at teaching Japanese! Other apps will try to teach like 10 different languages, using the same method for all of them, and you end up not learning anything. If you can read katakana and hiragana, I suggest turning off romaji. It helped me with retention and recognizing kanji for faster reading. Also, it's soo satisfying answering using only Japanese characters!

Don't waste your time, they let you do the first few days worth or lessons for free, but then once you get to the second section they don't let you continue unless you subscribe.. Other apps at least let you continue with ads, but this one doesn't. That app itself is really nice, and the lessons were informative and put together nicely to help you memorize Japanese.. It's just a shame they don't have the option to continue with ads.

Interrupting ads break my focus and disturb the learning process. Ui is too slow and clunky. Terrible free experience just from the ads alone so I'd never buy the premium just on that. Next time have non intrusive ads on a sidebar in the hub menu or something. This is unacceptable in the current year and I refuse to have apps on my phone that have pop up ads like these.

this app make it so fun and easy to learn Japanese. I sant stop using it when ever I have free time. highly recommend this if you struggle with learning new languages. it's really easy to pick up and even helps with your Pronunciation. Plus if you struggle with writing it has guys that help you view with that as well. This has really become my new chimpanzee learning app. 10/10 Would use again.

This was a enjoyable experience for the most part, but I found it really annoying when it put up a pay wall. I am fine with ads as I don't have much money to pay for a app but I got only threw the first part before it started asking me to pay. The customer service I ran into was more pressuring me to pay for the app then looking to fix or listen it any problems I had with the app. This added to the frustration. It would be a ok app but I feel they only care about money with their interactions.

I enjoy this app since it's definitely better than Duolingo and I can use it to study while at work, but I hate that I can't skip the audio segments, or remove them temporarily like in Duolingo. It's especially frustrating since they have an option to disable lesson audio, but it's worthless because it doesn't actually remove the listening portions, and you're still expected to complete them despite no audio playing. Poor planning. They should really try to accommodate people who can't listen.

great app for grinding hirigana and katakana. not quite as good as duolingoes version, because all the sounds are in groups, so you can only be quizzed on a certain batch at a time. whereas duolingo keeps testing you on all the sounds you've learned simultaneously. still worth using since it has unlimited tries for free with adds.

The Good: Shibi is adorable and I love the trophies! Cute app, generally nice UI. Introduces kanji and grammar concepts much quicker than Duolingo. Pro version is reasonably priced and you get it for life. The Bad: Trophies are glitchy; ex: tells me I got the Alphabet Master trophy but won't let me claim it. Voice recognition has gotten better but can still be iffy. The Ugly: The Engrish!! PLEASE have a native English speaker proofread! Many translations are awkward or flat out wrong.

The app nags you to rate it after every lesson. The premium menu isn't removed even after you've purchased premium. The app is so desperate for you to rate it five stars it tries to bribe you by offering "achievements" for doing so. The app lists the rate menu three times in the settings menu, that's how desperate they are for a rating. You can increase font size but if you do this causes the furigana to overlap with kanji. No kanji replay or erase for writing practice in lesson history.

Great app. I even paid for the premium version. However, it has a very annoying bug that I will change my review once fixed. Sometimes, you will finish a lesson and it won't unlock the next lesson. I've had to do the same lesson multiple times and its getting very annoying. However, as far as apps I have used, it is the best. Please fix this bug.

Decent app for learning Japanese, but know this. After the beginner and early lessons it becomes quite apparent that this app was not created by people with a firm grasp on English. Sometimes the English translations are bizarre or in the wrong tense. There are many typos in the explanation pages for words and phrases. All that said, You can still learn Japanese but I wouldn't rely on this app alone.
