As of 12/15/2021 there is an infuriating major glitch really ruining it. If the app is open when my phone locks, manually or automatic after a screen timeout, the game is immediately broken. When I unlock the phone, the game is unplayable. Menus will not open, npc's don't spawn, and when you enter a battle next, the screen goes black and the game hangs. This is happening on my LG G8 ThinQ running Android 10, and only when Always On Display is enabled, but is 100% reproducible for me.

It's a solid port, but not without it's flaws. Graphics are nice and clean, though some take issue with the font. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. My only complaint is that we didn't get the PSP port's graphics. Curiously the game would get bogged down at times. My phone isn't the fastest, but still decent and have run more demanding games better. Mixed bag on the controls. Being able to tap on enemies was nice, but other areas like navigating menus is cumbersome.

I want to change my original assessment.. Still my least favorite, but I'm giving it the benefit of a doubt, I think in the end the game was shooting for replay value in being able to come back to it with a better understanding of how the system works. By the end, I found myself thinking about ways I could improve survivability and character building in another playthrough, that's a plus for any game. But I still hate the pointless rooms, trash chests, and flans/jellies/mousse with a passion!

Why are the controls so bad!? The menus are clunky and slow, the buttons are either double, or half the size they should have been. The "virtual stick," works, ok. But you can't use it to avoid the crummy menues. Touch move is comicly bad. It seems to exclusively follow NPC paths, so your character will go out of there way to run into any and every NPC they can. AND OF COURSE, no controller support to work around any of these issues, other versions do have it.

So far, I've been greatly enjoying the Pixel Remasters of FF1-FF3. Honestly, these are my favorite versions of the games. There's only one problem: no controller support. There is absolutely no excuse not to include this, especially when the Steam ports of the games have it. Please add controller support for the iOS/Android ports ASAP. Thank you.

The game runs fine on my note9 phone. Haven't had any bugs or crashes 25 hours in. People whining about status effects bugs are wrong, it's not a bug, that's just how this game works. Even with a ribbon some status effect still hit you. Either way, status effects are not 100%, they still miss A LOT. If you are getting hit by EVERY status effect then perhaps your evasion is too low (I always keep mine at 90% or more).

I've never played FF2 prior to the Pixel Remasters, so I'm not exactly how it compares to other versions. The game was a lot better than I expected it to be, given it's negative reputation. Still pretty mediocre compared to other FF games, but certainly worth playing at least once. The $12 price tag is a bit steep, but it's still cheaper than most of the other Pixel Remasters.

It's unfortunate that the jank of the gameplay does get in the way of a good story, interesting characters, music, and world building for a game back 88. Playing that has character builds will help you understand the character growth but it way more janky. You can break this game as easily as it can break you. I can only recommend this game to anyone who has played a souls game, FF fan, elder scrolls to have some fun with the customization of your party.

After playing Square's excellent Dragon Quest ports, I thought, that was fun, how about finally beating Final Fantasy 2? Oh my goodness. This is an awful experience in comparison to mobile ports of the same genre, from the same generation, from the same company. -UI is ugly, hard to read, and hard to navigate. -Loading times... Why are there loading times for a NES game? -Online verification... What? If I wanted to pirate this 35 year old game, I wouldn't buy it. Shockingly low effort port.

Keeps crashing on my phone. Also seems like you need to be connected to WiFi or use data to play. Defeats the purpose of a downloadable game. This ran on my game boy when I was a kid. There is no way that the entire game could not be downloaded onto my phoneand play just fine. I guess this really is my fault for thinking Square could put together a port that was functional on any level. Don't give Square your money!

What Im loving the most is the music. It seriously changes the entire tone of the game, just upgrading from the old-school beeps and boops from NES days. Amazing game to rediscover with this modern, yet retro pixel remaster! Also, game does have auto-saves. It hides the first slot which is the autosave slot. You have to scroll up a little. Edit: So im in Mysidia Cave, lots of play time, and now i cannot lock my screen while playing because it causes my game to freeze when exiting combat.

Absolutely loved this game. Played it for the first time. While it was a bit tricky to understand the level up system as compared to other games in the franchise, I was able to manage with some quick Google search, and the game delivered in the end! The soundtrack is magnificent!

I like this game. enough to have paid for it. that being said, I can't shut off my phone or change apps without it crashing. this is something most free apps get, please fix this.

These Pixel Remasters are crushing it. First time playing FF2, and gotta say all the negative outlook on this game couldn't be more wrong. I know everyone has their own experience, but this ended up being an excellent experience. I loved how I could customize my team and make them all useful magic users as well as good at physical combat. Great game!!!!

Nothing much to say other than an improvement to the first one. That is because the characters have, well, "character" now. The change in the leveling system may be an issue for some but not for me.

Similar to FF1, a great port of this game! Virtually any issues I have are with the game itself, rather than anything about this particular version of the game; in fact, this might be the definitive way to play FF2. The same issues with FF1 exist here as well: the font and battle menu buttons are rather small, and the virtual thumbstick is difficult for me to move around with. However, those are fairly minor complaints, and the game itself is an excellent port!

Lots of quality of life upgrades from the original game and the previous ports, but there are a few downsides. Load time on startup is very long for no apparent reason, and there is no support for any control input (Controller or keyboard) besides the touch controls. Also, the game cannot handle being minimized to switch over to another app; upon re-opening the game it will reboot to the title screen which is absurd in a mobile game. Get the Steam version instead.

Great port of a unique RPG that many probably skipped, myself included. Thanks to this release I finally finished the game! I only gave it 4 stars due to the occasional bug - the game crashed or went to a black screen every now and then, so save often. It happened after boss battles and leaving the dungeons. It also happened after the final boss fight 4x which was an inconvenience.

The game feels good overall. Controls feel smooth, and the "tap mode" works surprisingly well. Graphics look nice and give that nostalgic feel without going overboard. The mobile version is missing some features from the console and PC versions (changing encounter rates, portrait of characters when talking to them, and fast walking outside of tap mode). FF2 has always been a weird game to play, but this version, I'm my opinion, is the best way to play it.

The old version was a bit janky with how the touch screen interface was rigged to work with it, so a lot of this is a step up. What makes me sad is the fact that y'all didn't put in the Arcane Labyrinth from the anniversary edition. That was a fun place where we clould do level grinding, and have a few interesting puzzles/mysteries and the ultima weapons. I'm still going to continue to play this one to see if there are any hidden Easter eggs like that. Also, I love most of the new music!
