I soooo love the old version, spoke to several friends to download it. In studying, I loved the fact that I could look up one word, and then from that definition, click on a word with the definition and be lead straight to the word clicked on. Please bring that feature back!!! It would definitely deserve a 5 star with that feature!

I've had the premium version for years and get a lot of use out of it. However, like many other reviewers, I can no longer get the WotD notifications. It's very disappointing. I know that I can still open the app and see the WotD, but that's not the point. It was hearing the little chime every morning and having a brand new word just waiting for me that set my little word-nerd heart all aflutter. If that feature can't be restored, I don't know that I'll stay with this app.

I tried reinstalling the app. Now instead of tapping 3 times in the search box to get my keyboard, it's twice. Hurray for progress. But now, after closing an ad, clicking on the tabs, definition/thesaurus/etc. reveals just a blank area. Subsequent searches are also blank. I have to restart the app for it to work but still when an ad happens (which is ridiculously too often) same problem.

Unfortunately, no good since the changed format. No longer user friendly or engaging. More difficult to navigate and go back to what I was looking at prior, including favorites. Can't highlight on other words for meanings. No more articles unless I just can't find them. Probably going to switch apps :( Oh, and the ads are ridiculous now, fill entire screen and can't be closed.

Change is not always good, I have the app for quick access to synonyms. Since the update, quick is right out the window; I have to select thesaurus a few times before it recognizes that I don't want a definition, on top of an increased amount of louder, more obnoxious ads. If I don't see improvement, I will no longer be using the app or the website. P.S. adding steps before you can see the definition of the word of the day was another HUGE mistake; you're driving users away.

I love this app! It has every definition I'm looking for and helps me with my school work and other things! Update: It has practically become unusable because of the amount of ads. At this point whenever I open the app I end up looking as ads more than the definitions of the words I searched. I recently switched over to Merriam Webster because it doesn't have an ads addiction.

I've purchased upgrades for this app, and it's pretty aggravating when it won't load. Not sure why, but they have a lot of issues with it freezing up or not loading when using the dictionary. The app runs sooo slow!! It takes so long to load definitions after typing a word. It was my favorite dictionary app, but now I'm about to uninstall the thing and find one that actually works!

I LOVE this Dictionary app! I don't ever want to use another! When looking up words you have many options, of course to type, also to speak into it. It also has a Thesaurus switch, where you can flip it from Dic to Thesaurus! It also has lots of options after you look up the word! I really love the learners button on the page, so if the definition is to hard to understand, you can press Learners and they simplify it for you! You can get SO MUCH out of this app!

I love this app. As someone that enjoys having a broad and accurate vocabulary and that writes a lot of business-related emails, it's great. I also just saw that the upgrade that takes away ads and adds rhymes, example sentences, and more is only $4. Not a subscription like everything else is now. I love that. Fantastic! More apps need to do that.

I love this app and use it daily. No problems with the performance, which others seem too suffer from. But ONE STAR NOW, because of the loud video pop-up ads - please stop them!! I can't use the app at work, at the library, etc., and have these loud ads blast out randomly! I understand that ads are inevitable with free apps, but make them silent, please!

Love word and synonym of the day. I learn so much! Took a star off because app used to only have banner ads, but now if you want to look up a second word or switch to thesaurus it plays a video ad. Sure, you can click away after 5 secs, but sometimes it freezes on the ad. Plus, that discourages me from looking up multiple words or lingering to dive deeper. I leave the app as soon as I can to avoid the video ads. I understand ads keep the app free, but videos between word lookups? Not cool.

I love that the definitions can all be stored locally on my device and can be accessed without being online! I have noticed that there is repetition in the thesaurus. I figure it must be a bug. Other than that, I think the thesaurus could be improved with an option to show and select from the topics rather than always having to scroll and scroll through (sometimes) hundreds of screens to get to the desired information. Why did the word origins go away?

I love this app with one very big caveat. I have paid for two upgrades at this point, at least one that purported to remove ads. But I am still getting ads, I believe because Google provides the voice recognition software which includes ads that cannot be turned off. I can't find an option to turn off Google's voice recognition in favor of one provided with a 3rd party. If this is true, it is very disengenuous to offer upgrades that putport to remove adds. I will be looking at other dictionary apps that don't engage in this kind of dissembling.

Was great for years, but I swear ever since the logo change the load times have become exponentially longer. I prefer using the un-updated version on my mom's old phone when I can. Sidenote: While it's a mild inconvenience at worst, I don't really like how lately the app had been notifying me of the word of the day twice each morning. The "favorite word" option is also fantastic to have, but for all I know that's a standard function for a dictionary app. I tend to keep favorite WotDs there.

I love this app. The 'learners' are helpful, as are the 'can be confused' notes. One of the few apps I use on a daily basis. The blogs are informative; however, the spacing is weird - paragraphs, indents, or a different font would help differentiate a change in the article. Lastly, I don't like that when I click a link within a slideshow it takes me away from the original one, meaning to get back to it I need to go from the home page and click several slides over to get back to the same spot.

Since this last upgrade (I would assume) I have been having too many difficulties. When I'm texting and select a word to look up, it takes me to the app, but when I try to exit, it takes me to a video ad I cannot back out of. I have to exit my text, actually swipe this app closed completely then re-enter my texting. I must uninstall. Quite sad, as this has worked great for almost 10yrs. (The review below was from 2014, so you can see how long I've had this app) So handy!

Effective as a dictionary but the crossword is super glitchy. It worked fine for me for months and then all of the sudden it started flashing, blacking out random squares, erasing inputs, and hiding the clues and the keyboard. Issues persisted after uninstall/reinstall. I understand that the crossword is put out by a 3rd party, but it's a shame Dictionary dot com hasn't addressed this issue yet, as multiple people have had this problem.

Amazing app functionality, HOWEVER, if I pay to remove ads: ALL ads should be removed, Notifications aren't working and locked out in settings, and just offer one premium package instead piecemeal each feature behind a paywall and hiding the total premium unlock option. Sinks of capitalist greed. App is great, yet business practices and notifications issues makes it disappointing I paid for it.

Literally only got the app to receive push notifications with the word of the day, because it's messed up in my emails. The app tells me I need to turn notifications of and routes me to my phone's settings, where no such option exists. Upon going into the general notification settings, this app just doesn't show up. So not only are my emails not working from the website, but the app is bugged as well. Very disappointed.

I really love this dictionary app. I use the thesaurus frequently when playing word games such as crossword puzzles or Connections (NYT). The only issue I've had is when I briefly open a different tab on my phone (without closing out the dictionary app) and then go back to the dictionary, the app will either play an ad or it will reload itself completely. Then I have to look up my word again and this usually results in having to watch yet another ad.
