Update: uninstalled because Andy 8 now reports a TSR draining battery. I liked the app so won't ask for my money back, but can't tolerate a juice-sucker. I like the free app a lot, though I would probably use the Web browser version when Internet connectivity was available. (I prefer the tabloid-style layout to the single-column layout of the app. I like the option to increase font size and appreciate that it is "sticky". The ads are presented in an unobtrusive way and seem tastefully done.

I'm not impressed, first it requires you to create an account. Next, it doesn't integrate into the system, at least not from my experience. I'll be un-installing. Edit... By integrating into the system, I mean into the keyboard and/or when you select/highlight a word and the copy paste etc options pop up, there is no option to to directly go to the dictionary app. I also tried the Oxford dictionary and though it has its own problems, that app did what I described.

This was a great app when I first downloaded it three phones ago. But these last two years, it will often fail to open, even when it's closed and reopened numerous times. Sometimes it just locks up when swiping back from an article. The content is great, so it's frustrating. I've never had such unpredictability with an app. It was five stars when I first got it. Please do some maintenance.

Always a pleasure to visit almost everyday! Great articles and information to help stimulate my appetite for learning. Over the years improvements have been made which are non-intrusive and without just "adding things" to clutter and make it less enjoyable. Having a feature to turn off the very few areas that I'm not interested in makes it an even faster way to get on my busy schedule.

The feature "Mentioned In", is limited. In general the ads do get in the way. Good customer email support. The location to Log-In is to centralized and large. Where as, the location of the search feature, is not centralized and to small. Should be the other way around, they got it backwards. Why put the search feature in an inconspicuous place, which is used more often?

Best dictionary I have found, including The Oxford Dictionary of the English Language. 08-28-22 ^ DITTO. Everything a writer needs easily at hand, especially the thesaurus, which is exhaustive and sure to provide one with the right word. Mark Twain said, "The difference between the right word and the almost right word ... is the difference between the lightening and the lightening bug."

Perfect tool for exploring my innate passion for language. The customizable bookmarking feature is **fabulous**. I also find the audio pronunciation feature invaluable! I'm an avid reader, but there's few things more embarrassing than knowing how to *use* a word in conversation yet pronouncing it incorrectly! I love this app. I can't do without it and cannot even offer any suggestions on how to improve it. If you love language, or simply need a hand on spelling, grammar, pronunciation, or syn

I used to love this app; it has both definitions & Wikipedia-like entries, & a homepage including word-related mini games, trivia, articles such as "person of the day," etc. I've used it for years. Recently, to my disappointment, it stopped working correctly. Regardless of my task- looking up words, trying to browse, etc- the app crashes after 30-60 seconds. Not enough time to do much at all. So I'm dropping my rating from 5 stars to 2. Please fix this bug & I'll be glad to go back to 5 stars!

Nice dictionary. So much in it. I love it. It gets 2 stars because it has those unique ads that are designed for you to "accidentally" click on, even if you don't particularly care about the product or service. This causes issues with the personalization of your ads if you care about that sort of thing, not to mention being redirected somewhere when you just wanted to look up a word and get back to your novel.

Edit: Thanks for the quick response. I was getting ads after doing the in-app upgrade. After playing with it more, I think it's a bug: ads still show up for words I looked up before the upgrade, but not for new words. 4 stars apart from that bug. Other than that, the text first loads in the smallest font and only then resizes, which means the text jumps around uncomfortably and makes using the app slower.

I've tried almost every dictionary, encyclopedia, thesaurus, information on a word or subject, and I especially love the section on (the beginning; then the ending) of a word. This area I use for the scrabble game: "War with Words', which came in so handy, not only for winning their weekly contest, but my knowledge and vocabulary has zoomed to triple digits. Making a living as a writer, teacher, this IS, the best reference Dictionary I've ever used in my 45 yrs. swimming the Literary orbit.

Fine as a dictionary, but the website does that. Has a weird dashboardy thing at the bottom of the page that is kind of distracting; it appears to have a notification but no matter where you click on it you go to the "install" page for some weather app. Also, the daily gift seems to have disaopeared. Kind of disappointing in the end.

Probably the best dictionary app. The ads are not that annoying. You need to be a registered user otherwise your bookmarks aren't saved. I only gave it 4 stars because it has a lot of other features that is useless to me and I am not sure if I can turn them off without crippling the app. There is an "Ugrade to Pro" link in the app but the Web link always returns an error. Update 05/11/21. I finally bought the app because it truly is the best. I'm giving it 5 stars for content.

I love learning and finding exactly what I need. This app does offer that plus it has some added creativity in word learning and information about events and things from past centuries and present that happened on this day. I find the latter to be irrelevant and also has some word games included. I would rather keep it simple and not add too much on an app.

I enjoy all of the additional tidbits of mostly interesting information when looking for a particular word. I like this app, as I am not a serious researcher of words for work, or anything important; I just enjoy learning new words, or refreshing my old brain about a definition I have somehow forgotten. I have a couple of paperback dictionaries if I want to look up words, which I still prefer, at times.

This app is something I use regularly, as it is versatile, and compact. I use it for my creative writing, and it works nicely for that. The countless features are handy, and whilst there are apps like thesaurus apps that do said feature with more complexity and grace, it is all in one, contained place within this app. Making the cons negligible when considering it's an added bonus, and the meat is the dictionary, which is superb. Addendum: With a troubling bug as of late, they quickly fixed it.

So far, all good. 5⭐ @Sh Mo- If I understand correctly, it's awaiting your app selection to provide feedback. Most only support email for this but some may allow Telegram, SMS, etc. However, the Share Menu is far from perfect; it seems that even if email is the only option that will work, you're able to choose any of your social apps & if unsupported, it crashes without notice. One could easily think they submitted logs, a bug report, etc. but in truth, nothing but the app crashing took place.

EDIT: The flashcards function needs to be revamped, in that you need to have the option to see more than just one definition on them. AND, if it's too long, the whole thing doesn't fit. "OMG, FLASHCARDS?! This is the greatest.... Uh, THING I've ever seen! (I'm going to start using them to increase my vocabulary immediately.) I actually have been using a physical dictionary, and writing down definitions on paper; but this is totally more convenient."

1. Previous word searches do not clear automatically from the search field, when within the same session. 2. All the definitions and source-credits run together, making it harder to distinguish the definitions from the credits. 3. No black amoled theme. 4. By typing the first few letters of a word, this app still cannot predict which word I am looking for, until I finish the whole word (e.g., type "succin..." and see if it can predict "succinct") 5. Offline searches hang even when I'm offline!

Possibly the most obtrusive, obnoxious ads I've seen in any app in my life. They interrupt you and take the entire screen, force you to watch a video. The only way to dismiss is to click skip, then a microscopic X which is deliberately hard to tap, so when you miss it launches a website for the product to harvest more data. That happened to me 3 times. The most anti consumer experience I've ever had. No dictionary is worth this waterboarding. Besides that, terrible UI. UNINSTALLED.
