More About Désiré

Désiré is a poetic point-and-click adventure game in black and white.
When the schoolteacher asks Désiré why he didn't draw the sun like the other pupils, he replies spontaneously: « It's always night in my head. »

Désiré is colour-blind from birth and he will lead you into in world of black and white. He marches on hesitantly, as life never brought him much joy. From a tender age, he is going to meet several characters who will elicit in Désiré intense emotions and alter his vision in surprising ways. Is colour at the end of the road?

The game is, at its core, a critique of the modern world and of the perverting nature of a consumer, profit-obsessed society.

The game contains 4 chapters, 50+ scenes, 40+ characters and a lot of riddles.

« Ah... dear fellow traveller... I am so happy to meet you and to travel with you along this rocky path to let a surprising story unfold. Do not be too quick to judge! At least not before you know how it ends. This story is both rough and delicate... as repulsive as it is endearing... melancholy and joyful... but most of all, it is a tale that is deeply human and profoundly singular. So let me introduce this young, colour blind boy who, from birth, has only ever perceived the world in black and white. Colours, to him, are as abstract as faith to the atheist. Yet, they plagued his dreams, night and day! This boy's name is Désiré and his life path will surely surprise you. But enough chit-chat! Go and find out for yourself... »

Wow! This game was great and so very hard to put down. There was never a dull moment in the story; very intense, sad at times and with just the right amount of suspense to keep you wondering. The puzzles were just hard enough to make unfolding the story more interesting, but not too impossible and not too easy. The only issue is the inventory. Sometimes its difficult to open the inventory.

I'm a sucker for 2D animation, so of course I'm going to play this. It's gorgeous and I love the character art, but it doesn't feel like a game as much as it does an interactive film. A good 80-90% of the game involves chatting with characters until you run out of options. And I'm not a fan of the game only auto-saving after specific scenes. I ended up having to remember to save after everything I did, otherwise I end up having to redo tasks when I came back to the game.

4/5 for the game itself, finding out the puzzles yourself is really nice but I've had to go search for the answer more than once only to find out it was something/an object I missed while searching which can be a bit frustrating. But the missing star is because I'm currently having problems with loading the "2003" part of the game, whenever I finish photo copying the pictures around the school it just kicks me out right after.

Absolutely beautiful game, I understand some people think it's odd and crude at first. But they also never finished the game, or perhaps even got past the first chapter. it's an amazing yet saddening story that hits points other games are too afraid to. Désiré has mature content that only an older crowd would understand, dont play it off as some 'oddly sexual' theme. It's about loss and love. I HIGHLY reccomend this game! Beautiful Soundtrack and graphics ontop of the amazing story! :)

The game controls, initial goal, and story were all both opaque as heck and not terribly engaging. I didn't even finish the first dialogue cut scene with the unevenly phobic grandfather(?) before I lost interest. The art seemed promising and at least the first scene didn't force you to pixel hunt or anything. Once the first goal was teased out of the inventory, the puzzle-solving to achieve it seemed discernable enough, with just a touch of challenge (ex. where would you find a pen..?)

I really liked and enjoyed playing this game.It has very good graphics, cute characters, and a heart felt kind of feeling to the story. There were a few hilarious scenes and the gameplay is really easy to control, and understand what to do next.Only problem was sometimes interacting items from inventory or locating inventory was a little difficult doing so because selecting item on screen would disappear too quickly and would be difficult selecting it. Overall I had lots of fun playing.

Love point and click games and this one was good. I found it quite enjoyable. However, I started to get tired of all the dialogue, but liked how the content of it pushes the normal boundaries of usual adventure games. I think it's just more a preference of my game playing, where I like more adventure, less dialogue. I like a storyline, just wish you had the option of skipping the scenes of dialogue:(

I will say that despite my rating, both the graphics and animation were impressive. The soundtrack is also beautiful. Overall, the game paints a vivid perspective of what its like to be colorblind. I would have liked to give this a higher score, however, the constant crashing of the game, plus the buggy controls and slow pacing of dialogue has made it unplayable for me. It's a shame; although the plot was a little disjointed, I did appreciate the exploration of sexual deviance and taboo topics.

The game is pretty fun but way too much dialogue, and this comes from a person that loves cutscenes in games and always watch them without skipping. it may be because the dialogue was kind of boring. Also, having to click in a random spot in the top right to access your items was frustrating. All in all, I did enjoy the game and this game isnt far off from 5 stars, just needs some tweaks.

Someone once told me that any expression of art is an expression of the self. I have to say, this game hit that. There's a lot of things that resonate with me, and even a few hours after finishing the game to its entirity I am still reeling. The narrative begs for patients (something I've noticed many of these reviewers don't possess) and much could be (and was) lost in translation. It definitely pushes what society considers comfortable. Probably 18+ if we're honest. The gameplay was a little buggy in some places, puzzles took much trial and error, and it would take from the experience. Perhaps a mechanics walk through in key points of the game (ex. Shifting pov between Désiré and Andy) could benefit the experience as a whole. Overall, good game. Keep creating. Can't wait to see what you do next.

The story is intriguing and nuanced but I found myself losing stock of the plot. Not sure what the point of the beach level is. Puzzles presented some challenge that kept me interested but there is no real momentum with the game and I could see less patient players getting bored easily. I did however enjoy the music and art style. Not a bad game considering it is free to play. One thing that kind of bugs me is that the backpack menu doesn't stay open once you click it, took me forever to find it and it's annoying having to open it every time.

Gameplay is awkward. Takes forever to navigate the environment. Maybe it works better on a tablet? not the best game to play on a phone. I'm using a note9 and my stylus won't interact with the game. I liked the storyline though getting through it is sloooow and found myself impatiently tapping the screen to end conversations. The graphics are nice and well drawn.

I really enjoyed the story and the art style. Just some minor things that prevented me from giving it the full 5 stars were: Accessing the backpack/inventory menu was a bit annoying to guess where it was at and moving the character from a position. I had to redo some timed scenes because of it. Also while I enjoyed all the puzzles, I did have leave the game to look up a hint or two to get me to the next step/ scene.

Pretty much the most French game ever. American players may be deterred by the open discussion of sexual themes, nudity etc., but that's what you sign up for when you expose yourself to French culture. It's a great visual & auditory experience, but annoying when you can't move forward in the game b/c you didn't select something that isn't clearly selectable. Plot wise, it's a cool premise but leaves much to be desired due to confusingly incomplete sub-plot arcs. Idk, maybe I just don't "get" it.

What a weird trip. It was certainly a unique story. Creative, engaging. My major gripes were bizarre puzzles and lots of difficult to find objects on a small phone. I ended up just keeping a walk through open in the background whenever I played just to end all my hangups. Anyway, all in all I liked it but BEWARE parents and youth: there is some very, VERY adult sexual themes in this that surprised me. Do not recommend for anyone under 18.

Dèsirè does a great job making you think, while conveying the common themes of loss and confusion of humanity. However, it does little to ever resolve confusion or tie together plot devices to tell a convincing moral. Though I doubt doing so, was the precise aim of its creator. Rather, it seems to be an excercise in seeking, rather than finding truth and in this pursuit it does fantastically. Where it falls flat is in its frustrating game mechanics and its preachy unskippable dialogue.

Overall, the art and soundtrack was amazing. Note, there are sexual and more serious themes in this. In some parts, there's definitely a lot of dialogue, however, I think it added to the characters. Some of the puzzles were confusing, and the game doesn't let you go forward at times when you don't exhaust all dialogue. Storyline was good, although it was a little scattered. Ending was a tad bit underwhelming, but I would probably play this again. I also used a walkthrough in some parts too.

Its a really interesting and unique storyline despite some of the themes and underlying sexual messages. It's both fun and frustrating to play since sometimes you need to do very specific things to move forward at all (like backing away from dialogue only to go in again), so it would be nice if we had the option to get hints. If you are patient or don't mind having to look up hints on the internet then I really recommend this game.

Definitely one of the more fulfilling games I've played. There are sexual themes, as stated at the beginning, and a lot of deeper stuff as well. I think the 16+ disclaimer at the start is reasonable. The art style is absolutely beautiful. The music is stunning. It has a lot of French culture, which I love. There was interesting dialogue, and an intriguing storyline. The end was a bit anticlimactic in my opinion, but to each his own. I would play it again just to experience it all one more time.

This game is intriguing and annoying. It does enough to impel the player forward. It has moments of humor. Yet, too many times, it forces the player to guess randomly at various solutions, so it feels unfulfilling. The main character is very much not likable. It has annoying pockets of extremely verbose dialogue that attempt to teach the player convoluted, misguided philosophy. The ending was disappointing.
