Stellar app, best in its segment imo. Not sure why the sub 4 star rating currently (Jan 2024), maybe it was buggy in the past? Regardless this app is great. Can record actual data, easily download it. And cool features like video recording with sound level overlay. Price is reasonable too. Recordings are limited to 3 min otherwise, ads are not intrusive. Incredible!

Paid pro subscription for a paid app?! Hadn't used in a while... reinstalled n was spammed with ads I thought the app was unusable without it. After canceling the trail figured out this wasn't required just overly promoted

absolutely zero reason for an RTA to have a subscription model.... I'm willing to pay a premium, but $33/year is greedy and insane. Immediately uninstalled.

The app is buggy and laggy. It keeps shutting off or stopping the recording on its own despite me enabling the option for it tl do otherwise! And everytime it lags the timer it has lags with it too so even if I've recorded for around 20 minutes it only ever says it has like 15 minutes or even 10 minutes for example. It's wasted hours of my time already with all these issues. Do not recommend

Can't get it to stop running in the background without force stopping it, REALY DRAINS my battery, which kind've defeats the purpose of taking reading of any significant time frame. Also, the time is very off for some reason. I use it at point count stations where our surveys are 10 minutes exactly, and each time I stop recording to get the data the timed recording is off by up to 3 seconds! Idk if this effects the readings at all but it's very unsettling.

I have downloaded and installed five different sound meter apps. I'm well aware that this is not comparative to professional calibrated and dedicated equipment. But of the 5 I have installed 4 competitors of them showed on average in a constant noise environment, e.g. inflight airliner passenger cabin, approximately the same value of around 74dB +/- 3dB. This app, Decibel X however, was the most inaccurate and way off measuring 105-108dB!!! IMPOSSIBLE! Useless inaccurate GARBAGE!

Scam. I tried to purchase the full version through this version. This app charges the equivalent of micro transactions to get features or remove ads. None of that applies towards the pro version, which costs less than all the micro fees. Do not pay anything towards this version. If you want this app just buy Pro version outright. I want my money back for this waste.

Used 92% of my battery (out of all installed apps) each day that I had it. I checked the battery usage by app in App Settings after I noticed my phone wouldn't hold a charge for even half a day. I guess it keep using your battery even when backgrounded. Maybe it should be more clear on the screen, like instructions or a demo walk-through would help for new users.

As a casual audiophile this isn't for me, but I see the potential for the serious. The monthly subscription is the biggest bump for me. That being said, this app has great tools. A sound level meter that is tunable to your device's mic. A dosimiter with multiple international standards. It can even run in the background. For the right person this is a gem, but I am not that person. I would, however, 1 time pay for an ok version with ok features.

The app uses microphone when it shouldn't (measuring paused, 'keep running when closed' in settings is off). Prevents unloading ignoring 'back' button and intentionally using notification bar to keep running, until force closed. Aggressively uses battery - phone warms up, it shows the app #1 in battery usage statistics even after 10 minutes sitting in background. How did it even passed the checks to get into Google Play? Does it farm cryptocurrency?

As a primary author of the "NIOSH" exchange rate (85/3), it delighted me to see it included in this app. I use the awith my One+ Pro 9, 5G phone calibrated on linear against a piston-phone-calibrated SLM. The inclusion of weighting scales, fast and slow response times, Leq, dosimetry, peak hold, spectrum display, a camera, and a record function make this app extremely useful.

it's pretty good, accuracy seems adequate and I do like it. but for some reason it causes my phone to overheat and it drains my battery. I already set the response time to low but it still happens. I don't know if this is normal or not. maybe the ads are causing it. I have to use it for a very short time and force stop the app to conserve battery power. CPUZ shows the P cores are constantly at max frequency until I force stop it, my Galaxy tab S6 does the same thing.

Drains battery and uses microphone when it is paused and is in the background. I paused the app and switched to something else only to find that my microphone was still in use and my battery was critically low. I had to close the app to get it to stop taking over the system. Edit: I'm glad there's an option to stop the app from running in the background, but if I hit pause, it should stop regardless of that setting. The current design is still quite problematic.

For being a decibel meter app, this one was kind of confusing right at first. For me personally there seems to be too many options and modes to change, most of which either degrade or lessen the accuracy of the app. All around though seems to get the job done well. That's why I give it (4) stars. Using a dedicated USB Interface with your phone or tablet will always improve your "sound app" and "hearing" or "listening" tasks.

Good features. Accurate to my ears. Impossible to exit the app. And when you do manage to find your way out of it(either recent or home navigation, back does not work) this app maintains use of your microphone. Only a force stop will make it relinquish use. Ignoring set permissions "Just this once" or "Only in Use" once you exit, it's still listening. And since it has internet access, whatever is heard has to go somewhere. Otherwise this app could (and should) be fully offline. Uninstalled.

My spectrum map is always covered by a weird blue bar when I open the app. I have to swipe and change settings a couple of time to actually see the graph. Otherwise great. I have nothing to compare it against so I can't speak for it's accuracy especially since it's phone dependent, seems good enough. Will update when/if my blue box situation is resolved

It's a very handy app, however I think itd be more effective used indoors only. It denotes basic street noise while recording, but if theres a very loud noise unusual for the environment, it will still change the high end decibel level to the one for that isolated incident. Perhaps there's more to it than I was able to get to in my rush & if I go back & Im able to account for the sound that I'm specifically trying to capture (a voice yelling thru a bullhorn e.g.), then I will up my rating to 4 stars. I can't give it 5 stars since it won't export or share the data unless you pay to upgrade it.

I am a sound engineer. While the functions seem useful in this app, the subscription model is not a good way to go. Save yourself some money in the long run and buy professional equipment once. Also a smart phone microphone losses accuracy at over 90 dB's, due to the fact these microphones are made for voice. I would be willing to pay $20.00 one time to purchase the app to support the developers in their efforts. There are some situations where this app would be useful and handy.

It's pretty spot on. Out of the box it was about 3 or 4 decibels off. The running graph is very nice if you have to stop to look at the result of your test. The ability to save your tests is very handy and it's ready to go immediately after installation as it requires little initial setup. Its a good application; I'll definitely continue to use it.
