More About Dead Cells: Netflix Edition

Available exclusively for Netflix members.
Escape a limitless castle with an undead twist in this roguevania action platformer. Find secrets, take down bosses, and if you die? Start from the bottom and reignite the fight.

You’re what’s left after a botched experiment in an abandoned castle made you a pile of undead sludge. All you need to escape is someone else’s less-than-alive body and the sheer will to battle your way through a constantly changing, pixel art castle full of rogue enemies and terrifying bosses. Learn the ropes of action-packed 2D combat and platform exploration, master a variety of weapons and develop your strengths as you unravel the secrets of the dungeon, the castle and whatever lies beyond.

Also: don’t worry about dying. That’s what the giant pile of corpses in the dungeon is for. Fight, learn, die, start over and keep getting better.

The Netflix edition includes all of the free and paid downloadable content created for the original game, so members can experience the full scope of their escape from the first awakening. Battle through the secret Arboretum in "The Bad Seed" expansion, hone your combat skills in "Rise of the Giant," rise from the dungeon to the shore with "Fatal Falls," fight the castle’s baddest boss in "The Queen and the Sea" and enlist the help of iconic Castlevania characters Alucard and Richter Belmont to take on Dracula in the ultra-retro "Return to Castlevania" DLC.

Features:

• Fight unique enemies in each castle biome and learn how to evade their special abilities.
• Loot and level up new weapons, advantages, genetic enhancements and more to customize your hero on every new escape attempt.
• Awaken into a new challenge every time you resurrect; with the castle’s magically shifting layout, no two runs will ever be the same.
• Explore secret areas within and around the castle to unlock big rewards (or even bigger bosses).

- From Motion Twin, Evil Empire and Playdigious.

Great game, but the controls are a bit fiddly. Weapon buttons are too small and i recommend switching the d-pad to fixed target than floating to avoid moving in the wrong direction to your demise. To avoid crashing i found it's best to quit the game rather than closing the app, and if you get error messages clear the cache/restart your phone. Seems to fix it

Aside from rare crashes it's a decent experience. All DLCs are included. The game itself is great. The controls are a little awkward to me though. I later played the game on my PC with a controller and I was many times better. It is also weird DPAD is not thr default way to play. Who plays a metroidvania with an analogue stick? 95% directions are useless hahaha

So, I've been playing for a while now, and the game is really amazing. I've never played it before and wanted to give a shot. But, it has a huge problem with movements, making it very hard to climb ropes. I've died several times because instead of jumping up, it jumped down, and so on. Sadly,it makes the game more difficult, but not in a good and challenging way, and sometimes impossible to play, like in "the lighthouse" I don't now, maybe the joystick button should be bigger, that should help.

Dead Cells is a Phenomenal Game, and you must try it because it's that good. However I read the other reviews and many mentioned about bugs, despite that, I thought nothing much of it and installed to have a first taste of the game. I then come across a gamebreaking bug, my game doesn't crash, but the problem lies within the loading screens. Let's just say I died in a run and the game refuses to load me in again. By that I mean I cannot access my 2BC save file anymore. Pls see to it and fix it.

Almost perfect with my controller. It's basically dead cells but on your phone. Simple. Unfortunately the occasional crash or issue does happen, not at all to be a problem tho so that's good. I have a p7a, running the latest updates, so I doubt it's my phone hardware or software that's too old or something. Just wish I hadn't bought it like 2 months before it just launched on Netflix lol, same for vice city.

Terrible port. To be clear - the game itself is a masterpiece, but the Netflix version is so full of bugs it hurts. Sometimes it just randomly crashes in the middle of a gameplay. Sometimes it won't even load, instead bombarding you with a screen of listed 1502 errors. And it DOESN'T even support cloud save for the time being. Really unstable and unfinished release, hope it'll get fixed soon.

The game is phenomenal, and the android port is very decent (some frame dropping but overall playable). HOWEVER - After defeating the Hand of the King, and activating the next cutscene, the game crashes and resets you back to before you activated the cutscene. I can no longer play the game as a result, it's a completely game-breaking bug. Until it gets remedied, this 5-star game gets 1 star for being broken.

Dead Cells mobile port's gotta be the best. Unfortunately, when it comes to this Netflix edition in which it's paid subscription, it has pretty vast bugs, lags and slower framerate. Glitches sometimes occured. And many times my saved slots couldn't be opened. Mayhaps, corrupted or so. I already progressed much and grinding would be brain tearing. Imagine to lose all your progress at a single disturbance. Do hope that these Netflix devs' would do something regarding this decent game's errors!

Amazing game, unplayable port. It's great and all that this is a "free" option for most people, but it's far too unstable for an enjoyable experience. A roguelike game shouldn't crash at all, or at the very least not permanently lock you out of your run after crashing. I've had it crash at random or in level transitions, and in both cases it'd fail to reload the run, forcing me to start over. Not cool.

Honestly this feels just like the pc version, except i wish the left stick was bigger and interaction with objects feels a bit off because I am used to playing with a joystick. But judging from the other reviews apparently people are having bugs and performance issues for some reason... I haven't got any technical issues so far... Honestly there's nothing I'd improve other than the left stick because it's too small

With my controller plugged in (a gamesir of some sort), it is f*king amazing. On my S22 with uncapped framerate, it's smooth as butter and looks amazing. I originally played on my switch, but it got nicked, and I lost 100 or so hours of my game save. I decided to start again on my new Switch. After checking this out, I will stick with the netflix edition on my phone. It is superior. I don't think I've ever preferred a mobile version of any game. Gotta have a controller. Touch controls suck.

It is my first time with dead cells and I am amazed. Game is challenging but it is very fun. I didn't experience any bugs, crashing or lagging. Grab this title without thinking, it is totally worth time spend. I would give 5 stars, but for the time being there is no cloud save. Progressing in game requires time and effort, so losing all progress when switching phone or uninstalling the app is tragic catastrophy. In paid version on android cloud save is not a problem... Please fix it.

Fantastic platformer. One of the best and most polished mobile games I've played. However: - It's brutally hard, and you'll need a controller to finish it fully. Or enable assist mode. - The Netflix edition does not support cloud saves. This is the reason for the loss of the star. If you uninstall or change phones, you're starting from scratch. The play store version supports them. If you like it, I'd recommend buying that version (or console/steam).

Easily 1 of the best games you can get on a smartphone. Yes it can be tricky without a controller, but it's not impossible, as others have claimed. I've beaten it twice - with NO assists. WITH a controller, it's simply SUBLIME. Almost All the DLC is here, with a couple minor updates still under discussion. There's a TON of content, and it runs flawlessly. I've been playing it for years via playpass and have NEVER seen so much as a glitch, never mind crash. Simply amazing game.

Do not try to play this via touchscreen. It is absolutely not suited for that. Luckily I could use my switch pro controller though the game didn't understand any of my buttons, just substituting question marks for all prompts. You could play this game on mobile, and the price is certainly right, but this just doesn't feel like the best way to play dead cells.

Should be a 5/5... Game is phenomenal. Runs amazing. Amazing game. However, it doesn't let me beat the final boss. Whenever I beat him (or her) it crashes during the cutscene and when I reload I am before the boss. Even after beating the boss 3-4 times it keeps crashing. So I am unable to progress... Please fix it

Netflix is doing a huge disservice to the creators of dead cells. The Netflix edition is a buggy nightmare. It failed multiple times attempting to download the assets when I first opened the game but then I was never able to play it because it would crash at the Netflix prompt. If this is your only experience with dead cells, I am truly sorry that Netflix ruined it for you.

Game is not balanced around using touchscreen controls. The button used for moving keeps moving around and when you trying to move you end up turning yourself around or jumping down instead if up, etc. Game requires precision controls and you just don,t have that on a TouchPad. Game is basically unplayable without a controller.

Edit - The Netflix version doesn't have cloud save. If you delete it, you lose everything! Learn from my mistake. I slept on this game for so long. I avoided it because of the old school graphics. Finally, I'd seen it recommended so many times that I decided to try it. I've been playing every chance I get for the last week. I haven't even scratched the surface of what can be done. The Netflix edition even comes with all the DLC. Definitely give it a try.

So far, it plays exactly like the standard game. -1* for the same awkward touch controls as the main game. -1* because there's no way to transfer your save from the official game. I played the original a lot. I cleared the game several times and unlocked a LOT. I downloaded the Netflix version to see if I could continue my game with the free DLC. You can't. You have to start from scratch. It is what it is, but deserves a -1* in my opinion. If it's your first time, download it now!
