The experience I have had with the customer service of Couchsurfing has been notably disappointing. They poorly indicate charges that will incur if you update certain things on your profile. And conveniently for them, they have a NO REFUND policy. Im down $60 for providing my email to "verify my account for life." There was no prior notice lf this charge, and there is no confirmation before being charged this amount. ** This is dirty business. ** I recommend this app to absolutely nobody.

There are many good people that use this app/site but the corporation that runs it is a terrible communicator. They have held people's accounts hostage, requiring payment, with no warning. People who have previously paid for verification on the app will be asked to pay again for access. The app also frequently has trouble with properly delivering notifications from messages/requests.

Couchsurfing used to be an incredible community. I've made some of my best friends from CS, and had some of the coolest travel experiences of my life! Unfortunately CS is not what it used to be. The team behind the app now only looks out for "stakeholder value", continuously increases monthly subscription cost with absolutely zero updates to the app/website in the nearly 7 years I've been using it. Many OGs have left and new folks tend to be entitled in my experience. Extremely disappointing.

I've been a member since 2013 and I understand you need money to keep the site alive but we should be able to see our profile and access our photos and access or contacts on there and not just be blocked off completely! You can block anyone from messaging or contacting or searching but not block us from our memories and already made friends. It's soooo wrong! Let me in to see MY profile. I'm not going to pay just to see my photos and messages and reviews. Kind of ridiculous to force $ out of ppl

I've really enjoyed CS for the 5 years I used it until early 2020. I even paid the $60 lifetime verification price which entitled you to seem more trustworthy for potential hosts/surfers. What I understand with their pay policy now, is that $60 is now mandatory, including the monthly /annual subscription just to use the app. I was going to try and see what it's like for a month, but after reading so many unfortunate experiences from others about how broken the payment system is, I doubt I will.

I should have listened to the reviews but instead I gave it a chance. They charged me $60 on a poorly marked page where I didn't even know I was about to spend money and I only noticed when I checked my bank account later. They don't issue refunds, but also don't make it clear that cancelling the contribution is unchangeable and unrefundable. I even messaged the customer service and they replied once and have since stopped communicating. So essentially they just took my $60. Would not recommend.

AVOID! I used it mostly for the hangout feature which sucked. You have to pay for a subscription to use the app at all, so you don't even get a trial. After a few days, I tried to delete my profile, but it turns out they don't have a button for that and they make it extremely difficult. Apparently they want to keep your data and maybe even charge your card for auto-renewal if you can't figure it out. They make you send them an email requesting deletion and you have to provide info. Don't sign up

I feel like the app is pushing you to buy the verification for $60. It only gives you limited options before you have to get verified. I also have a strong feeling that most hosts are only looking to host girls and use it as a dating app. I've been truly disappointed on the other couchsurfers that say they are very open-minded and then never want to host other travellers.

Downloaded this app at a friend's suggestion. We plan to travel to India and want to be able to experience what a local host and tour guide could offer. Immediately, you have to choose whether to pay for monthly ($2) or yearly ($14) access. After that, they practically demand you get verified, which costs either another $60 or you have to host a traveler for temporary verification. They discourage accepting non-verified travelers WITHIN THE APP, leaving you pretty much no choice. Hard pass.

I used the app for few years and didn't have any issues. Now last week they have blocked my account and they don't want to give me money back that I have paid for verification. It seems that if someone from members blocks or reports you ,they deactivate the account. I want my money back. The customer support is rude and unprofessional not clear about what happened. Well anyway it's now needed monthly subscription that's very stupid. Anyway I was planning to cancel.thank you for doing it for me

This is just for meet- ups but no stay requests get approved. You pay $60 to get your profile verified to get more chances to get approved for stays. You have to spend too much time setting up a profile ( you need a 50% completed profile to send requests) , penning a request geared towards the host you want to stay with, and in the end, you get no replies. A waste of time and money.

Horrible app and very disappointing company. It used to be free and now they charge. I've been a part of couchsurfing for many many years, and in order for me to even log into my account to check my messages, I need to pay for a monthly subscription. I am APPALLED that a paid subscription app still embeds random ads !! Shameful!! They have ZERO customer servie so don't expect anyone to answer any of your messages or questions. I would give them zero stars if I could. App is also very buggy.

I used to love couchsurfing but now most of the profiles are inactive. I wasn't able to find ANYONE to stay with on an 13 day trip to Ireland this past month. And I can't block out dates on the calendar for hosting from my phone, only from my PC. The features on the site have improved over the years but the there are apparently few people hosting.

Really not enjoying the way this app is setup or the way the community responds to requests. Downloaded on the recommendation of a friend, but it is *not* for travelers with flexible dates. There is no option to leave dates open ended, and most of the users fail to change their status from "Accepting Guests" when they are full. One-hundred percent of my denied requests have been from people who are listed as accepting guests when they're actually not. It makes the whole app and idea pointless.

It was a mediocre experience at best, services and service area / coverage was low grade, even my initial " joiner fee of $ 60 " was a surprise bill then, as it wasn't disclosed as a requirement, but okay I had very little use for it during my membership time, yet kept it just in case I'd do some further traveling, but now it's a subscription fee to continue, you can keep your App for that.

If the app is completely paywalled, that isn't "in app purchases." That's just a paid app. Made an account then immediately deleted it because I couldn't even explore the app without subscribing. I'm not giving you my credit card without any idea what I'm even paying for. That's insane. update: I deleted my account but they still sent me email. Even scummier: I went to unsubscribe from everything and you CANNOT uncheck the boxes for affiliate promotions. I'm going to get spam FOREVER now. 🔥🗑️

The app is lagging and the messages aren't syncing in time. I would receive messages a day later, it's not refreshing properly, and I haven't been receiving any notifications. But when I use the app on an iOS device, it runs smoothly, it updates and make routinely patches to ensure its quality. As an Android user, I don't feel we're recognize as part of that couch surfing ecosystem.

Not really my favorite experience. There isn't a good "social networking" vibe on the app. For example, finding the person I'm standing next to is near impossible - this gets in the way of our conversation and reduces the number of friends I have on the app. Also, events disappear as soon as they are over which makes it impossible to reconnect with people I forgot to share contact info with. All in all, not a joy to use. Hopeful for the future ☺️

The problem is that when I pay the $2.99 Couchsurfing subscription, I saw a large message instructing me to "verify your account with your credit card." Since other services, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), verify account authenticity with a card (without any charge), many people, including myself, add their card without noticing the small, light gray text that reveals the hidden price. By the time you realize this, it's basically too late. You are charged 56 euros, which doesn't seem legal

This app is just rubbish! I've been on this app for several weeks. I've sent requests after requests and all have been declined except for one. I was grateful for my first and probably last CS stay. I don't know why people decline, saying they're not available because they are out of town, yet when you go through the filters and choose ONLY ACCEPTING, all are under that. If they are "not available" then change your status or whatever it's called to NOT ACCEPTING. What a waste of time!
