I love CNN as a news channel and see them as a reliable source, but the app has so many bugs I can't even read anything! Every time I want to open a breaking news notification "Error, please try again!" Then I have to search the whole app just to find the article, but even when I do that it automatically freezes and closes on me. Putting me back at square one. I'm just an individual that wants to stay informed and educated, but the bugs within this app are not allowing me. I'll be sticking to my usual go-to New York Times for now, until CNN decides they want to have an app that actually works.

Big mistake to take away the photos heading each story on the scroll. But the biggest mistake is that after reading each story, I'm bumped back to the top story, so I have to scroll down to find where I left off. Very frustrating! I have been a longtime CNN reader, but am currently reading on NPR News, which I recommend as much better- there is better editing of writing, thumbnail photos with headlines, and you retain your place in the scroll of stories. I'm deleting CNN until they fix bugs

The only problem I can report, but it IS an annoying one: After reading an article, when I tap the back button it takes a full six seconds to go back to the main page. As opposed to the WaPo or NYT apps, which are instantaneous. Update 11-12-21 The latest problem with horrible app is that after reading an article, hitting the "back" button now brings the reader to the TOP of the news feed and NOT to that article's location within the news feed. Just horrible.

CNN used to be the easiest news app to use. But the monkeys cannot leave well enough alone; they insist on "improving" it by offering more vedeos than articles, and linking to sub-sites whose purpose remains obscure. Very irritating is that most text articles (i.e., not a video only) now come with pictures and links to videos that take as much space as the text. Recently it keeps telling me to upgrade to a newer version, but I already have it installed (even if I uninstall and re-install it!).

I don't like the flip board style page scrolling because it's unstable and flips back and forth from one page to the next. Please return to the industry standard of slowly scrolling with your thumb up and down. Loose the flip board it's just annoying. Also, the sound on videos is often too low to hear well, but the ads are always really loud and obnoxious. Too many ads, too many pop-ups. Although the news coverage is great. Especially international coverage

Horrible. Only word for it.Uninstalled! Frustratingly slow to start. Despite multiple reviews complaining about the app the developers are not fixing it. Would give it 0 stars if I could. Also, I used the app to get the news rapidly, in text. Now, a lot of the content is presented as videos preceded by 13 sec ads. If I wanted to do that I could watch TV! Terrible! And, openly biased and opinionated.

CNN app is updated throughout the day with breaking news and is one of the primary ways I stay up to date on national (and global) news. I like that video clips (although some are too long to get to the point) are available to view and rarely glitchy. I don't like the ads, but since it's a free app, the ads are totally reasonable to have! (and the ads are short).

The app has issues ranging from links taking you to the wrong article, to articles that won't load. The app provides no way to report these issues, there is a feedback button, but its disabled in app. If you want to share to FB(the app provides this only for select articles) it immediately stops your video, and sends you to FB, if you want to finish the video, you have to start over, including the ad that plays. When you finish the video it forces you back to the main UI, so you can't share.

I've had multiple issues with this app, but since last update, it always switches over to Video ONLY Samsung version, with no option to rollback update, or access written articles. Only choice is to uninstall and reinstall app one or more times a day. I READ the news periodically throughout the day (like while waiting in checkout line): video is not conducive to public consumption, you can't easily skim or jump back to key points in a video (don't hold me prisoner CNN), & I don't want to waste my data. Boo!

This app no longer opens no matter if you are going into the app from a push notification, on the widget, or directly from your list of apps. In 2016 I wrote a review on how the app would crash after reading one article. Seems to me that not much has changed. When the app actually worked it was great, but it's not worth it when their are so many news apps out there.

Since my last review in 2016, there's been positive changes on the app, but inexplicably it still needs big TV membership to view 'live tv'. Works seamlessly with Chromecast for streaming Android to TV. The only annoyance is the frequent 3min blank outs for commercial breaks. Perhaps a separate set up for the app, eliminating the pauses, is in order. looking forward to more tech updates.

Live play still glitching on my note 4, even though videos play fine. It is almost a rhythmic cutting in and out of the live stream. Old version did not do that. For reading it's great. Really good reporting and breaking news reports. I like getting the breaking news notifications. Still cutting in and out. January 29, 2019 I still watch live stream when away from home. However, it still glitches, cuts out and in or lately been watching and in background will play different scene? Plz help. Thx

The new layout is a huge step backwards into the Dark Ages of the 8-bit Internet website. It forces the reader to scroll large swaths of screen for just one article; no wonder they say it's faster: There's less content! Solution: uninstall and replace with another news app with more news. What a concept. 3/7/2020 Apps get updated. Sometimes new features are introduced and bugs get fixed. Sometimes not. The most recent update disallows the app to be exited, unless that's a feature. Removing it.

I like CNN on my android. However, I don't like being forced to watch a video commercial that is half the time of the story. Perhaps 1 commercial for every 4 news videos? But not every single one. I always get frustrated and go to a different app. So I primarily use it for reading news. I also echo other people saying too many unrelated photos and videos when scrolling through stories. Update 10-2020 Still a great source for news. Now even longer advertisements you must watch. I switch apps.

We're lucky in a democracy to have a vibrant press. My only complaint is that journalists should be more aggressive challenging falsehoods, and deflection. Too many spokespeople are able to pivot away from a question with a crafted soundbite. Interrupt, get the focus on your question. Lately the app won't let my phone automatically allow the screen to timeout. If I don't remember the screen stays on using battery. Please give us the option in settings. Thank you for the excellent reporting.

I appreciate I can get reliable news at any time without a subscription fee. However, the ads play before nearly every video clip and are so extremely repetitive it gets maddening. Also, when I accidentally get taken into the "Live" TV section, when the time runs out, I'm unable to get back to the site. I have to turn off my phone, then on again to get to any other CNN story or any other application.

The topic separations and selection are excellent. The broadcast is good, but it's simply a summary that helps point to the more complete app offerings. Good work. 11/9/21, took time off from the news. It became "Donald TV". Came back to find A LOT of bad reviews about getting kicked to the top after reading an article. I'll check back in a month or so.

I had been using the CNN app for years as a primary go-to on my phone. For reasons unknown, on March 5th 2024, the app simply crashed. I went through all of the motions of clearing the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling, etc etc, but the app would simply no longer work. When I would click on it, all that would pop up would be the CNN logo and nothing else, no news feed of any kind. A day later, still no change. Since the app was now wasting space on my smartphone, I reluctantly removed it.

The widget for Android is terrible. Why cant news organizations get this right? (The Washington Post is the only good one I've found). CNN's is constantly blank and says to reload, then does nothing when you click on reload. On those occasions when it really does show a summary of news in the widget, any story you click on does nothing. You basically have to click on "more news," which takes you to the app and is the same as if I just put the CNN app logo on my screen and click that. Useless.

The notifications no longer work. I've uninstalled and re-installed the app several times and made sure I enabled the notification alerts, but I still have not received any notifications. This has been an issue for the past few months. Also, the app no longer opens when selected. I've deleted and re-downloaded the app, and the problem has not been resolved. Once you open the app, you will hear "This is CNN," but the app remains on this screen and no longer shows articles or videos.
