I agree with the reviewer who pointed out that after the last update the game definitely does feel like it is cheating. Not only does it get a lot of bingos but after you play a couple of good moves it will play a Q or a Z or J or one after the other on a triple or a double triple. I have also been playing this for many years on Very Hard level with 87% win rate, high score of 547 and best word 185. Now I rarely win and when I do get ahead just start getting dealt all vowels or all consonants

Nice app but it badly needs a setting that doesn't automatically show that a word is legit before you play it. Major oversight.

Have used this app for several years now and love it. Only problem is that since I got a new phone (Samung 22+), the screen stays on, does not go off with screensaver as all my other apps do. I've checked all the settings, several time. Maybe I'm missing something ? I've emailed the developer, no reply. Does anyone else have this experience ? Any advice appreciated.

Terrible update. Now the screen goes black when I look at any other open tab for a second, and it has to be completely closed. Sometimes you can continue the same game when reopened and other times you have to start a brand new one. Fix this 💩

It's obviously got a great vocabulary but its strategy play is not very good at all. Also, it seems to me that it happens a crazily high percentage of the time that when I play a bingo the droid can do the same on its very next turn. Having said that, I play it virtually every day so I guess it was well worth a couple of quid.

Impressive and addictive. However, even in Extremely Hard mode, it sets me up to use a triple word multiple times in a game. And therefore I amost always win. If it knew not to do that, it would be more of a challenge.

I find this version of scrabble moderately challenging. The AI is very good at finding bingos, which I find tricky, but poor at strategy, sacrificing high ranking letters for the sake of a low word score which is the highest it can manage for that go. This gives me a chance to win! 🙂

Classic Scrabble game with both single player and two player modes. Difficulty is fully customisable and in its normal default setting it plays a good game. Dictionary is selectable and the game can be played offline. Overall great for Scrabble fans and a good implementation which is easy to use and play.

Refreshing! All other crossword games I've used have been great -- until they ramp up the ads to an INSANE level. Even the premium subscription versions of the apps (i.e., Scrabble go) show ads! They warp your perception by allowing you to cheat with their digital currency (gems, diamonds, to buy boosts and letter swaps) and you become addicted to winning by cheating. This game is super clean Scrabble, no frills.

I play this game daily. It's well worth the small fee I paid for the Plus version. I wish the devs would consider making another very, very difficult level, though. My goal is to play at the most difficult level, & beat the computer as often as possible; I succeed 70-75% of the time. (If it were a game requiring high level math skills, I'd suck at it, but I love words.) So how about it, devs? How about another level? You could call it Speller's Hell lol. Anyway, if you're a word lover, buy this!

2023 + As I update to Samsung A10 to A14 , i find the Classic Word Plus is no longer compatible. I paid for the app years ago and would gladly pay again for a working version. I tried the "free" versions & get more aggravated with each game. I uninstalling. Please fix this incompatible!! Last review 2014 thru 2023 Back to loving it! New options to switch on/off teach and the options menu make the game better for new and older users.

Only played two games though so far it's great. Totally intuitive. Minimal instruction required prior to play. No ads. Just jump in and start making words. The Droid is incredibly stupid, I imagine it will get smarter and I will find it more difficult to win games. Overall great. Will return to deliver 5th star after a longer test drive.

A competent port of my favorite word game. Uninstalling for good though, after 8 years. The new AI bingos at least once every game on Extremely Hard, as if cherry picking its letters. And the more I play at that level, the more often it bingos on its first play. Just can't stand constantly wondering if I'm being cheated by a game. It was a great 8 years though. Worth the money I paid in 2014.

I really love this word game. Very addictive. I miss the ability to look up a word in the Scrabble Dictionary that you get with the name brand, but I don't miss their prices! For the small fee of the paid version of this game it will tell you if your word is valid before submitting it, saving time and humiliation. Much more fun if you play someone else!

I thoroughly enjoy this game. It's fun. challenging, and always educational. I particularly like being able to highlight words for definition of their meaning. Also, it's good to see how much one word or another one would have the better scoring opportunity before I play. Too, I like the choice of playing different levels of skill... easy, hard, etc. Sometimes, I feel sharper than at other times, so it's good to have a choice.

Good Scrabble implementation, except that its dictionary seems oriented to British English. I still give it 5 stars because it works well and has features I like, such as reviewing scores. I haven't yet tried the 2 person mode. Without a network, the game won't fetch definitions. One other nit: a tie in a human vs the game counts as a victory for the human player. That really should count as a tie, I think.

Have played thousands of games over the last 3+ years. Has several nice features and advantages over other Scrabble/Word apps. That said, I have become increasingly convinced there are bugs around letter distribution, especially when "Help my luck" is disabled. I frequently receive two U's in a row, which is unlikely, and virtually impossible when it happens 7 out of 10 games. Also, there are cases when the same letters you swap are returned back to you, which should never happen.

I was looking for a lightweight Scrabble-type game app for my older backup phone and Classic Words Plus was perfect. I like the solo gameplay and it has all the features I need without taking up a lot of internal space. The aesthetics are basic but controls work well. The premium app price is on the high end. Having dark mode not be included in the cost for the premium app seems odd. However, I can't make game apps so I guess I can put out a few dollars for the person(s) who does make them!

Original review 2017: This is an outstanding game; the only one I have paid for to get rid of ads. The extra features are great! Update February 2020: I dropped my phone in water and ruined it, so I borrowed my wife's phone, which has the free version of Classic Words on it. The pay version really is extraordinary; I missed it. The extra features are wonderful. I'm delighted to have the Plus version back on my new phone.

I've been playing Classic Words Plus for 3 years. It used to be fun, but now it's just frustrating. The "Very Easy" level has become incredibly difficult. Every game I get every I, U, L, and V; the droid opponent usually holds on to one or more of the high point letters (i.e. J, X, Z, Q); and the opponent doesn't even try to win. It simply prevents me from earning a high score. The Droid controls the board. I contacted the administrator, but got no reply.
