While I still respect CBS News reporting, they charged the app recently so that an ad and then video content are locked at the top of the screen, covering half the content. And half the time the video is not the same as the article you're trying to read. Yes, it's possible to close the video after the ad has played, but it's extremely frustrating.

Great CBS news as always however. The live stream keeps looping and repeating. When it finally catches up with itself in the middle of the next story, the looping starts all over again. i tried to open the lead text story today (Aurora) and the app crashed but i opened a vid and another text story... both fine, then back to the first and the app crashed again...hmm.

I would now rate this less than 1? The new updates now result in a devise security issue so it has to go. The app now will not let the screen deactivate so if the user sets the device down, the device will remain active until the battery is discharged. Despite trying to remember, I have, several times, been called away from my desk and set the phone down only to return hours later to and active screen. Only happens with this app and can't find a way to disable this feature/bug. Final straw.

I really dislike that if I have to back out of a (streamed) story for something else coming in on my phone, that I cannot resume where I left off. So instead of rewatching the entire content to get the last few moments, I'll just move on. Seems like an app with this kind of backing would have taken something like this into account. May delete the app, may re-download later, not sure. But this would be a nice improvement for consumers. The additional network error messages are also too frequent.

Don't bother downloading. I use YouTube because the app is terrible for video and buggy even for written articles. I used to rate this app at 3 stars, but continued QA failures by the Dev team and the resultant bugs along with low bandwidth usage must be addressed. Smaller cable stations have apps that put this one to shame. Update: The latest version of the app is even worse than when I gave it 1 star. It constantly presents a timeout error, won't accept feedback, and requires forced closing.

Still Freezes and locks up a LOT with a blank screen and completely unresponsive and then has to be killed on Samsung 6 active. Because of this I stopped using the app for many months. It still happens now. I am surprised nothing has been done to fix this. Would be great and get 5 stars if it did not lock up after just one story often.... Obviously from other comments I am not the only one with this issue.

I've been looking for a news app that is succinct and has more articles that I can read rather than videos. I can read a lot faster than I can watch. This is the best that I found so far, but it still has too many videos for my liking. At least a single headline does not take up the whole screen, and I can catch up on the top news quickly. But my biggest complaint is that when I get a phone notification from this app and click on it, it takes me to the main CBS video which doesn't have anything to do with the actual notification. I've given up on that feature, and turned CBS News notifications off.

CBS is awesome for providing an app with a free news stream and the option to cast. That being said, this app is fantastic! ....when it works. The app has been prone to connectivity issues for the entire time I've used it. At first it would cut out on Chromecast every few seconds. Finally got that fixed, but now the app ONLY works when casting. (Took 1 star away for that) Someday maybe CBS will have a real workable app. If i could use the app without casting, it'd get 4 stars. Good luck!

Don't bother. This app used to be the most-used and one of the most highly-valued apps on my phone. With the December 12 update, it has become a hellish experience of buggy behavior, crashes and lockups. Demands location privileges which it doesnt need. Clickbait ads in the previous version were bad enough (but tolerable); new version tries to start with streaming video ad which freezes and requires forced shutdown; sends the device to black screen. Front page of the app used to provide first paragraph of articles as helpful teasers; now, a badly-written headline takes you straight to what is sometimes a video feed, often without waning. (sometimes, I'm not where I can listen, but CAN read - making this "feature" worthless, at best). After a few days of trying to use this now-miserable app, I can't even get it to reliably start without crashing. CBS should revert to the previous version, or just pull this out of the Store - it's an embarrassing, pitiable waste of time, talent, and treasure. The only positive feedback is that it has no paywall -- but I suppose you get what you pay for. I'll start going elsewhere for news: ABC, Reuters, Associated Press have well-designed, functional apps-- even BBC or CNN are acceptable. This one is just sad.

Please improve notifications in Android. I like CBS News content. However, there's an annoying issue on Android phones. If I get a notification from this app, the text I see on my Android phone will be something like: "President Trump calls for...." Then, if I click on the link, it goes to a video, where some event might be in progress, but there's no descriptive headline. I never can find out what the full headline was supposed to be, and I'm not going to watch the video for a few minutes to try to figure it out.

Downloaded this app because the CBS weather app was "no longer supported". This app is not an upgrade for that app. More adds, more clicks to get to the weather info, and less intuitive to use. Even when you do find the weather forecast link it doesn't work. All it did was open a browser window that never updated or displayed anything.

4/15/24 Been using this app for several years, it's really a mess. I rarely bother to open it anymore because it just keeps getting worse. Loaded with so many ads that reading an article is frustrating. One ad banner on the bottom of the screen, one pop-up video ad running in the left corner (with no x-out) covering half the paragraph. This means barely a paragraph is readable without scrolling, then there are box ads running in between every 3-4 paragraphs. About to give up on this app.

Too many adds and videos that pop up over the news articles, adds\video difficult to close without opening them up. If you attempt to scroll through the story\article the pop up video covers what you want to read and follows as you scroll. If I don't click on the video then I don't want to see it! When attempting to read the videos are rammed down your throat and you must stomach the subpar reporting. These videos becomes extremely aggravating as you use the app and ruin the user experience

At least with the previous form of this app the article would show fairly quickly. If you read it fast before the top half was covered it wasn't too bad. Now with this new 5.4 version that has been forced on us you can click the article and nothing happens except the click sound. I used to read the CBS app first, then you started covering it with videos and now it barely works at all. Great improvement, you can keep it, I will read NBC. Are you really trying to drive everyone away?

Where is the weather. Again, the cbs weather app is stating it is no longer supported and links to this app as the "current" supported app - but there is no weather breakdown! I almost live in the weather app - it guides my plans for the day and week, being able to watch for storms coming in (with maps) and planning for snow events, etc. If you're really getting rid of the weather app, at least put it in the cbs app and make it easy to find. Grrr!

I hate this app!!! Are you sure you have enough commercials? I believe the commercials have more air time than the shows themselves. ABSOLUTE WORST app for streaming. It's a HUGE waste of time. The only thing I ever do in this app (usually on other devices) is watch CBS Sunday Morning. It was so frustrating the amount of time I was wasting with all the commercials I just quit.

Want readable info. Do not want to see what's on TV. Need to be able to READ daily & hourly forecasts. The old app was perfect now I no longer get quickly needed forecasts. Do not want to have to listen. Listening every one else can hear too No I can not wear ear. The old app was very informative. Why could there not have been the option to have the old app or the new. Streaming is not always the answer. Watching a screen to see another screen is not suitable to everyone.

Love it, but it's quirky...I have notifications turned on. I will get a notification about a story, click on it and it defaults to the last story I was reading. It happens regardless to whether I have the app open or closed. That needs to be fixed! I now have to search for the story that I was interested in, and depending on how recently it posted it may not appear in the feed list. So annoying!

The ad pop-ups have gotten even more annoying. It is now impossible to read some articles without video ads at the top and banner ads at the bottom. As soon as you start scrolling the article a popu-up appears across the top of the screen with a small video ad on the right, which has a back button and a share button, but no way to remove the pop-up. This is worse from the small popup that had the X to dismiss. I'm now moving to other news sources. This has gone a step too far.

The break-thru ads are a terrible. I like to read the news quietly, so I never have the sound on. When you click on a story, the photo becomes dark & then when you start to read the article, an ad pops up, but if you scroll past it to the next paragraph, it pops up to cover the story. If I had been at all interested, I would have clicked on it without all the pop up reminders. Please stop.
