Catan FAQ:

Question: Why do I have to download additional files after purchasing?
Answer: The download from Google play includes the basic game data and a tool that will determine your device’s display resolution and then download the optimal graphics data for your device.

Question: Which Android security permissions does Catan need and why?
Answer: “Storage” to write data to the SD or move the game data, “Network communication” to download game data and access the In App Store and “system tools” to check if Catan is already running to resume a game.

Question: I bought one of the expansions but after an update, reinstallation of Catan or after restoring my phone the expansion seems gone?
Answer: Don’t worry; your initial purchase is already saved in your Google account. However for technical reasons you might have to select “Buy” again. Confirm and a message will tell you that you’ve already purchased it. You will NOT be billed twice!

Question: I lost my campaign progress after reinstalling, updating from or when restoring my phone. Is there any way to restore it?
Answer: Savegames from old versions can usually be restored automatically. For all other cases we’ve integrated a cheat code: Enter campaign mode and go to select player. Enter „CatanWarp*“ (* = 1–15, e.g "CatanWarp5") as your player name and confirm. Exit the game via the home button. Enter your phone’s settings menu. Select applications/manage applications/Catan/ and then “Force Stop”. Restart Catan. The campaign can now be continued from the specified level number by selecting “New scenario *”.

New UPDATE: If playing the new free expansion maps (especially ones that has islands), the game would freeze up when the islands' specific number is rolled. I would have to close the game/app, come back to it, and re-roll. Other than that, everything else like the classic maps and modes seems to be running smoothly.

More often than not game plays wrong development card in expansions. I looked for in game way to report and nothing was obvious. Also for solo play I'd like a "undo" sometimes I click the wrong thing because the controls are a bit clunky and you're just stuck with the mistake or in the case of the glitch whichever random development card it selects.

Unbalanced Rubber Band Physics. I love Catan the board game but this is just junk. Rolls favor the AI to the extent it's impossible to win. You can get out ahead but once you do, in the late game you'll get 2-3 resources a round, I didnt have any 8s and I watched it hit 8 four rounds in a row. Then all of a sudden they go from down by 8 to winning placing a road and a settlement each round, and drawing two victory points. Played this game for hours and won 2. Garbage!

I have played the board game enough that I understand the rules; otherwise I am not sure this app explains how to play very well. Beyond that game play feels intuitive and it is easy to control. The game will keep stats on most things so you can see that over time the dice rolls, etc. are fair. There is a good variety of computer opponents (though on-line play would be a sure improvement!) I don't know the board game versions of the expansions so I have not gone for the IAP yet; the standard game is varied enough that I have been happy as is. Games take about 30 minutes (you can save, of course).

I play this game all the time. However, it is super frustrating when you can just tell the game is stacked against you. AI players go out of their way to take from you even if you are last. The game obviously knows when you have 7 or more cards and will for sure roll a 7 on your turn to make you discard. One time, I lost nearly 20 cards to robber and monopoly in a span of 3 turns. But overall, it's a decent game, but you are definitely punished for being in the lead.

Tried to play my first game online and got through about 30 minutes of gameplay before the game froze for my friend and then for me. Could not reload the game afterward. Tried to start another game with just one friend and could not get the game to let me to play. It skipped my turn on the opening round twice, froze the game, then only allowed me to build a city before it crashed altogether. I wish I could give this game 0 stars because of how buggy and ineffective it was. I wish I hadn't paid $5 to find out that this app just doesn't work.

Updated: The online version doesn't work. I paid for this app, but even if you're able to register, the online version wont start. Disapointing Second problem has to do with the game fairness. I played over 200 games at "Hard" level and it's very difficult to win. Not because the robots are "smart", but because the dices distribution changes. the probability of getting a 2 on each dice is around 3%. the probablility of gettting three consecutive 2 is 0.01%. However, you'll see that happening a lot if you play against the computer. Suddenly you're leading by 5 points and the dices roll are highly biased towards the computer and then you finally loose. The developpers of this game clearly took a shortcut to make this level "hard", which brings out the fun of the game. Conclusion: Very fun game in real, but the app has serious flaws that makes it not enjoyable.

Purchased this 2 years ago and have never been able to play it. Had some ossue with my old s7 where it woild crash constantly, but never cared too much. Now I have a new phone, and thought it could be handybfor an upcomming plane ride. Nope! I open the app and am greeted with "catan needs to download additional files," but cant see any buttons to approve the download, so im stuck on this one screen. Glitchy, easily the most dissapointing app I've ever paid for.

I've had this app for a couple years and play it frequently. I love that you can play offline (great for airplane mode) and there are enough free-bie boards to keep variety. In general play is faithful to board game. Computer AI is a little predictable, and I'm not really sure any bots are very different from one another. Ive had problems since April 2020 updates. Bugs crash the game when a gold mine space is rolled in game. I also am frustrated that random boards are not really.

The graphics and mechanics of the game is nice (very few bugs) but the game itself is very frustrating if you play with the AI. The AI cheats horribly. The dice outcomes is always in the favor of the bots. For an example, I had a case, where the AI had put the robber in my tile at 11. As soon as that happened, dice rolled to 11 three times in a row (which is statistically so unlikely). Before that I rarely got 11. At first I thought it was just an one off game, but it happens almost every game.

Seems designed to be hard to play unless you have every card and mechanic already memorized, know exactly what resources and cards you have at any given time, and never look away from the screen. You can't look at your progress cards or even the settings when it's not your turn, which makes the turns take longer (especially because you want to turn every feature off). Frequently pops up to kick players, even if their turn just started.

AI isn't very bright, so it's designed to cheat in single player mode when you get ahead. Not a huge deal, since the game is only really fun against other people. However, the online game mode stopped working recently with no explanation. Other issues: it waits a *long* time for a player to get kicked if they abandon the game. I've had players who were clearly losing abuse it by waiting it out for turn after turn trying to 'win' but getting everyone else to quit out of frustration.

I absolutely LOVE this game, but every single time there's an update I lose my campaign progress and it is infuriating. Also, the bugs are ridiculous! There is nothing more frustrating than playing an online game with others and AIs only for the game to continually freeze and force close, because the AIs are trying to pick a resource from their gold token. I play it daily and am always pulling my hair out. It could be SO good!

It's a great game, but the app is horrible. It crashes regularly. It doesnt save settings either, so if you close the app and come back to it later (not immediately reopening after it crashes) you have to reset all your settings. I have to turn off sounds, retype my name, and reset my player preferences. It's not a huge deal, but it's annoying to have to deal with every time I open the app.

IT'S F'ING DISGUSTING HOW MUCH THE AI IN THIS GAME F'ING CHEATS!! It makes it almost unplayable! The game actually adjusts the rolls/dice outcome according to what the situation is, in favor of the bots!! (If it wasn't for this, I'd give the game a higher rating!) I like the classic graphics! Game play is fine. There are a few bugs (esp. with the trading mechanism). Would like to have my Development cards displayed during the game.

This game is a lot of fun! The only problem I've found is that the computer cheats terribly. The true odds of certain numbers being rolled clearly do not apply to this game. So often the computer will make 11s, 12s, 2s, and 3s roll more often if it benefits the computer. There have been so many times where I clearly should be getting more resources, but the computer gets more and they get all the opportune development cards. Catan needs to make the dice more realistic.

Worst buy I ever made. Online the other players will take forever to go, longer then it should ever take. Or they're disconnect and reconnect and the entire turn starts over, I got tired of it so I went to solo so it would be fast paced, and I literally just spent 6-8 turns without anything to be able to do because the numbers never rolled, every few rounds they will give you one resource to make up for it. But the worst part about it, is it'll be the "hot" numbers that don't get hit. Trash game

Violates game rules, in a number of ways. The game for some reason requires me to build before rolling, which is backwards in the standard game. You roll, then you build. That's the risk of 7+ cards. Trading is awkward and seemingly pointless with the AI. In all fairness, I only played this version of the game for about an hour. But, I've played the real game for many years. This is not a good adaptation of the board game. If I could get my $5 bucks back, I would. I'll write it off as theft.

The game needs some work. I've seen 3 game-breaking flaws: 1) Dice rolling is not random. Every match has the perfect bell curve of statistical probability. While you may get four 11s in a row, you then won't get 11s the rest of the game. 2) The NPC players specifically target the player even when there are competitors with more points. 3) The NPC players have perfect memory of past rolls and what's in each player's hand. If you're able to buy X but need Y, nobody will trade.

The game is ok. It'll pass the time. I play solo and on the "moderate" setting. The game seems to regulate the difficulty level, not by making the players better, but by rigging the dice rolls. The higher your difficulty level, the more 7s are rolled against you and the more rolls come up with numbers you don't have. Nothing about skill. All about making realistic dice rolls unlikely. Frustrating.
