Unlike some other games of this developer (ENYO, which is GOAT, and normal, non-adventurous Card Crawl, which is good passtime), this game is completely unintelligible. This is mainly due to the incomplete tutorial in which not all icons and not all in-game-context terms are explained. A general idea behind the game is painted and *some* specifics are explained, but many details remain a mystery. However, it's not offensively bad, there're no intrusive ads and the artwork is great

the game is art and general concept are awesome just like the others from the same developer, unfortunately, the game is very bad in terms of balancing. You can instantly lose the game if the RNG gives you a spider and bad placed spells or weapons just because the web it summons every turn is too powerful. Maybe I'm not understanding something but the bat boss seems very unlikely to be beaten since he seems to heal much more than you can damage him in one turn. Hope the game gets to fix those.

I found this game through Card Thief. This one is more complicated but just wonderfully made; great graphics, subtle animation and sound effects and totally engrossing. There is no pressure to spend money or watch pesky ads. The makers of this game seem to have the very best of intentions and that is a rare thing for the play store. I cannot fault this game.

Not a very accessible game despite the well-meaning tutorial. Eventually, it becomes a matter of tracing your way by trial and error, seeing which paths damage you or leave you intact. In some respect, this planning ahead your path feels strategic but ultimately feels like cheating. The decision space is limited and unrewarding, unlike Krumit's Tale which gives you so many options to do and actually lets you experience the consequences of each of your moves without the spoilers of what's ahead.

Fantastic art style, effects, sound design, it's all cute, creepy, and charming at the same time. Alas, gameplay is kinda hard to master because tutorial is barebones and cards info is mostly lacking. I've played dozens of "adventures" yet still get baffled by what a card does occasionally. But man it's addictive and def worth a try! Would maybe like an option of watching a long ad to restart a tavern/shuffle.

Perhaps the best of Arnold's games to date, though not my personal favourite. It brings the high-quality that You can come to expect by now. Beautiful and interesting, great mechanics, deep world. It resembles Card Thief in a few ways, but is its own thing and more complex than any of the previous games. There's a lot to do and discover. The tutorial is a bit lacking (at least at the time of writing, which is early after release). The pricing model is amazing. Support the people behind this gem!

Love the core mechanics of the game. However it can feel like a bit of a grind. Adventures take an hour+ and often with nothing to show for it. You can make it 99% and lose on an unlucky draw - or win but not earn new achievements. I think it could be improved by a) giving players more tools to control randomness, and b) rewarding each adventure with some progression. E.g. earn tokens for each tavern completed, to unlock the ability to preview next deal or discard X cards once per tavern.

I really wanted and tried to like this game, the artwork is beautiful and the game seems simple enough but with some depth but after playing for some time I am still confused by what effects my card choices are having. I think the problem is the level progression. The first 5 taverns should not have any of the effects like fire etc bring the elements into the game at a much slower pace so you get a chance to understand the basics first.

Eh. Its alright. Nice art style but tutorial froze and I had to work it all out on my own. Had a few fun games but it came clear that there are many levels you just can't complete simply because the game hasn't given you the cards or stats to beat it. And once you're in a game if you surrender you have to restart the adventure all over and you can't even go back to taverns you've completed to get all the achievements. Has potential but needs work.

Absolutely fantastic. If you enjoy anything that Arnold has released you'll definitely love this game. The learning curve is very fair and rewarding, each run I'm figuring out how to better approach the game. No ads at all and only 99p to unlock 1 of 4 additional characters. When a game is this good, £3.96 for 4 new ways to play is an easy spend; not only to get more out of it, but also to support one of the best mobile game developers out there.

Game is quite enjoyable, it might be longer but its fine now. As always, gfx is well made and things go smoothly with no bugs. However there's a problem with balance: items are mostly subpar to upgraded cards, using allies is more damaging than helpful and after 3rd tavern things go south: some bosses become unbeatable, some cards are game finishers (like spider web or minion who "stun" half of playfield). Also, ability to look board when choosing treasure could be useful.

Really cool game, one of the best for mobile, only negative is the amount of bugs...

I REALLY wanted to give Card Crawl Adventure five stars, but I can not. The original Card Crawl was what I would call a perfect game. Lots of options on playing. Wonderful variety of weapons, defense, potions, and enemies. I've played it EVERY day since I downloaded it years ago. What got lost in making Card Crawl Adventure (in my opinion) is this game is too complex and convoluted. I could play the original Card Crawl for hours, but not so with Card Crawl Adventure.

The rules are way more complicated than the original Card Crawl or Card Thief (which, I love both) - but there's tons of fun combos and interactions that let you pull some pretty wild stuff. Plus the whole thing has this weird sort of meta-narrative where you're a brave adventurer delving dungeons and fighting monsters, except all that's happening in a card game you're playing against the bosses as you drink them under the table and skip out on the tab.

I absolutely love all your games that youve made(especially this one). One of your greatest hits by far! I love how you meshed Card Thief with Card Crawl(the original). At first it was kind of difficult to understand but before I knew it I had beaten my first playthrough making it to the end. Genius way of including the bestiary btw since some enemies or other card types are rare to come by. Not to mention that the character designs are top notch. Excellent music too. Would recommend

I'm here from Card Crawl, as I really enjoy that game by the same dev, but this one is simply too complicated with an annoying & lackluster tutorial that leaves you holding a bag of confusion/frustration within the first ten minutes of playing. I have given this game several hours of my life and still don't have any greater grasp of how to properly play it than I did going in blind. Elements are cute & creative, but it's just too difficult + not enough examples of gameplay/strategy. Sorry.

When it doesn't crash, this game slaps. It's starting to crash during normal rounds, and even when you shut down the game and come back fresh to your 'saved' progress, you come back to the crash. To get around the crash you have to 'abandon' your current play-through and start fresh. Which is very annoying. Any other game that had this many hiccups I would uninstall and leave 1 star. The game is that good (when it works)! I think the last update may have something to do with it.

Fun game, but some rather confusing mechanics. Takes a while to figure everything out, and there are a few bugs here and there. I often find myself wanted to draw the line between cards by dragging, which feels more natural, than tapping. Even with tapping, waiting on the animations is a pain sometimes, where I go to tap the next card and nothing happens, as an animation ignores it. I also wish there was a store front, with the option to unlock everything at once.

I love all this Dev's games, for the most part. This one is quite challenging, but not so hard it isn't fun! The tutorial makes it seem very challenging and like another reviewer said, like a bunch of games in one, but once you start playing it's not too hard to learn. I think the tutorial needs to be tweaked so it's not so much of an information dump at once. Also, the shuffling transitions are... Too.... Slow....

Arnold Rauers is a very talented and creative guy. I love his games too death, but my favorite is Card Thief. This game's mechanics are similar is many ways to the aforementioned, but much more confusing in their presentation. I don't mind complexity and maybe I am missing something, but I am unable to feel the same level of tactical control I do with his other games.
