More About B4UFLY by FAA

B4UFLY is the simple way for drone operators to check airspace and local advisories before taking flight. Stay compliant and contribute to safer national airspace by making yourself aware of advisories and restrictions in the airspace and local advisories around you.
With B4UFLY, you simply open the app and select where you want to fly to see the status of the airspace selected, as well as details regarding surrounding advisories. B4UFLY is provided through a partnership between the FAA and Aloft (formerly Kittyhawk). Learn more at https://aloft.ai/b4ufly/

We have also added new crowdsourcing functionality for people to contribute to our global advisory and compliance database. You can flag areas for review and submit new locations for addition to B4UFLY advisories from within the app, or you can also visit this page to submit areas for review at https://aloft.ai/b4ufly-data-submission-form/.

If you have a general question or comment about UAS or drones, please send us an email at UASHelp@faa.gov or call us at 844-FLY-MY-UA (359-6982) 8am – 4pm ET Monday – Friday.

January update made this app completely useless. No maps or useful info anymore 😭💩 it's just a single page with a description and that's it. Unfortunate, because it used to be a useful map and now it's completely useless.

Was thinking about getting a drone. downloaded app just to look at areas to fly. One day the map works. Next day it doesn't. Then the next day it works and now again it doesn't . but says four programs have been approved by FAA. But doesn't give any recommendations.

This app is garbage. Every single time I open it, it shows me a "B4UFLY is expanding " screen. Hey! That's great, but there's no continue option or next screen option to get to the information I need. Useless!

Used to be a good (not best, but good)... HOWEVER 2024 update no longer is it an app... my personal recommendation is AutoPylot. AP has more detail (including additional elevation restrictions within the airport areas). I live on the outskirts of a Class D airport, and it shows 250ft - 400ft areas near me. Check your legal options and fly responsibly. 🪰

The app opens up to a notice that there are other apps to use which then takes me out of the app and into a webpage for the FAA to select another provider. No where to close the notice. As far as I can tell this app has one screen that indicates to me that the app is not functional and I should use other providers. I have no idea why this is on the store.

Maybe if it didn't freeze, lock, and lag 100% of the time using it. This should be THE definitive app for people flying drones so we know where and when we can fly. I have been relying on DJI to recognise no fly zones, but that doesn't seem like a good way to go. It's pretty simple, you don't want US to break any laws, YOU need to make this app work as it should. Update: thank you kittyhawk for the update. This was way overdue. Cood to see someone compitent finally designed the app.

The search function does not work. Help contact email response was useless. A great tool but no use if it doesn't work. Couldn't get the app to do a location search to see restrictions for a specific area. Instead it insists on giving me only information for my current GPS location. So if you want to know if a drone can be flown around Allen and you are in Fort Worth (about an hour drive), plan to drive that hour just to find out. Better yet, how about San Antonio (5 hrs)? Well, you can drive there and find out. LMAO!

Works just fine. It would be nice if it was based on ACTUAL map data, like maybe a CURRENT sectional chart. It shows me near an airport that is well outside the 5 mile limit. The actual airport is in a completely different location on the sectional. Navigation data from the FAA that's wrong?!!!

Updated review: still 1 star even though interface completely different. "Your pin is off the screen!" constantly pops up as I browse to the place I will visit. Only way to get rid of that is to "search" by address. It's a scrollable map, I see the lake and foot trails right here, why do I need to search for the street address of someplace nearby?

C'mon dev's! This app is garbage and a waste of my time. This app lags and freezes while navigating through the sections. I tried multiple times to load airport info on the map for a specific area and nothing happens...just freezes. Only gives me airport info for my current location. Planning does not work. Simply a useless app and deserves zero stars.

Was watching a 51 drones video and he mentioned this app and how much it had been improved since being over from the FAA. I was one of the many who uninstalled it when the FAA had it. Looking over it it has been greatly improved but I don't see any different between this and the main Kitty Hawk app. Unless I am missing something I don't see the point of having both. So to me pick one you can't go wrong either way.

The new version is SO much better than the old version. In fact, they're really just completely different apps. However, I have to take off a star because it has some annoying things, like the pop up telling you your pin is out of view. Also, it doesn't support LAANC, so you can't get airspace authorization from this app. You have to use Airmap or Kittyhawk to do that. So, in most cases I will still use Airmap or Kittyhawk, but this is finally a good alternative.

Great app, but needs work. The only thing I can think of that needs added, Is notifications. Getting live notifications via push, of aircraft approaching your airspace, would be excellent. A few times I've had a flyby low altitude plane and an unmarked helicopter pass through quickly. Audible noise prompted an emergency landing, but prior notice would really make a huge difference. I use a few different apps, but nothing offers push notifications regarding air traffic, only weather changes.

UPDATE: warning; "update" is not an update, it's an execution. kills your existing version. don't install. update: no longer working. can't find my location and yes, it's enabled. reinstalled twice. giving up. took a little time to figure out all the information contained in the app, but it's one I use before every launch. you can't assume it's always OK to fly where you are, even if you've flown there before. conditions change and this app tells you what you need to know.

I am on a Samsung Galaxy S9+: it does not work! The biggest problems with this app are that it goes unresponsive/crashes, and it does not have buttons to confirm address entry. When it starts up it hangs and just sits there until it decides to let you touch one of the buttons. If you attempt to paste an address into the address bar, it will crash the app. The planning portion is useless. The only thing it works for is showing you the location of certain Heli pads and airports as well as radius from those airports. Even looking for a status as to whether you can fly or not and the reasons behind the restriction is difficult and convoluted. Last update was 2017: is that taking the app seriously?!

This app is incredibly helpful. Im new to drones and was reviewing the sectional maps of my area and started to get worried because of how difficult and tedious they are to read. I was feeling discourag3d because of how little space there is, at first glance, to fly. This app both makes it very simple to see if you can legally fly in your current (or any) airspace, and it turns out i was wrong, there is plenty of room to fly! The app also has several different ways to view the map which is great

Unfinished app? The app refuses to load a view of any map. When I type in an address I get a message saying "unsupported location". There seems to be no settings button in the app anywhere. This app feels half baked and does not seem to provide the information of where it it safe to fly. It is a shame since there are 2 airports within a 30 minute drive from my location.

Horrible app. It constantly states psst"Your pin is out of view" I know Captain Obvious. This app is designed to be used in real time, not for planning. I want to use the app to plan where I can fly, so I don't go there and get told that I can't; that's a waste of time, money, gas population, etc. Also the Map is very basic, there is no detail. Google Maps has better detail than this. They should partner up with Google Maps, that would be way more efficient. Needs improvements NOW!

Useful, but a lot of simple but critical information is missing. For example, it utterly surprises me that wilderness areas, which are no fly zones, are not in this app. It's not like designated wilderness areas suddenly pop up or disappear, which would make it difficult to chart. Made even worse because I don't recall mention of wilderness areas in the TRUST training and see no mention of it on the FAA part 107 site, but they require you to check this app before you fly which doesn't have it.

Great App, but it can't be a sole resource. It does NOT include wilderness area! That is a very easy feature to add, since there are shapefiles available, but for some reason they aren't in here? If they were in here, it would easily be 5 stars. Wilderness areas are crucial to know, especially here in the PNW where we are surrounded by them, but alas, I have to use a separate app for that.
