More About Star Traders: Frontiers

You are the captain of a starship, free to venture anywhere in the universe. The ship and crew are yours to command, upgrade, and customize. Stay loyal to your starting faction, abandon them for others, or play all sides to your own ends. Galactic events & faction quests across eight different eras await your discovery, but every playthrough is first and foremost your story. What kind of captain will you be?
You’ll find a wealth of options in this epic, in-depth space RPG from Trese Brothers Games…

• Play as any kind of captain: Spy, smuggler, explorer, pirate, merchant, bounty hunter… more than 20 jobs with their own bonuses & roleplaying possibilities!
• Customize your own spaceship: Choose from 350+ upgrades and 45 ship hulls to build a vessel perfectly suited to your adventures across the vast reaches of space.
• Recruit and tailor a loyal crew: Assign talents and equip specialized gear for every spaceship crew member.
• Weave a new narrative on every playthrough: Decide to make friends or foes with other factions and influence political, economic, and personal vendettas.
• Your choices change your crew: As you make decisions and set the tone for your ship, your crew will grow and change to match. Destroy enemy ships with all hands on deck and your crew will become more bloodthirsty and savage. Explore distant worlds and loot dangerous wastelands and your crew will become intrepid and clever… or scarred and half-mad.
• Explore a rich, open universe: procedurally-generated characters and even galaxies allow for endless possibilities. Change map options to create a universe gigantic or small as fits your playstyle.
• Choose your own difficulty: From Basic to Brutal, or fully customizable individual options. Play with save slots to try out different builds or storylines or turn on character permadeath and enjoy a classic roguelike experience.
• Achievement unlocks: accomplish story and challenge goals to unlock additional optional (not better) content like new starting ships and new starting contacts.

If you’re a sci-fi fan, you’ll recognize many of our influences, but the lore of Star Traders is a universe of its own…

First there was the Exodus – when survivors of a great war left the ruins of the Galactic Core behind in search of a new home in the stars. Scattered worlds were claimed on the fringe of the galaxy. Each pocket of survivors held on to an isolated set of worlds while trying to rebuild under the great law of Shalun. Three centuries later, technology has brought them back together again. Discovery of the hyperwarp has bridged what was once an unimaginable distance between far-flung colonies, long-lost families, and political factions.

With that reunification has come great economic prosperity. The hyperwarp reestablished the transportation of cargo, goods, and technologies between the quadrants – but it has also brought great strife. Political rivalries have been rekindled, blood has been shed in age-old feuds, and the fires of war have been stoked. Amidst the political infighting, a ruthless revolution is rising – and the fervent explorers of the hyperwarp have awoken something that was better left asleep.

Star Traders: Frontiers is the latest and most expansive Star Traders game to date. Our very first game, “Star Traders RPG”, took hundreds of thousands of gamers on an interstellar adventure. Its success and overwhelmingly-positive reception helped to launch Trese Brothers Games. It was the adventures of our community’s star-crossed captains that put us on a trajectory to share more of our worlds, ideas, and dreams.

We set out to capture the loneliness, bravery, and camaraderie of people living together in a spaceship sailing across the stars. It is with great pride that after releasing four other games in the Star Traders universe, we’ve created a sequel to the original Star Traders RPG.

Step onto the bridge of your starship, take to the stars, and create your own story in Star Traders: Frontiers.

I'm just starting to play and I'm impressed by the setup and dialogue. I'd like to give 4 stars or more (still checking it out), but one thing I noticed is a big problem. The dialogue screen on the first mission, where you can meet contacts, has things you say to them to start the conversation. The princess' dialogue is obscured partially by the HUD. Two options, back and map block the conversation context.

The game is solid, and it's very, very in depth for an Android title. My low rating is due to the lack of any way to transfer your save between devices. The no-longer-reliable Helium Backup referenced on their site is not a reasonable solution. For a game that requires as much time as this seems to the lack of a supported way to transfer your save is a complete dealbreaker.

I've played a lot of space games, for every 25 I probably like... One. This qualifies. There's no rush unlike some games where time progresses whether you're playing it or not. The factions feel politically different and there doesn't seem to be a clear right or wrong, so you can make your own decisions about who to help or not. Overall I give it a 9/10. Only lacking in alien races and graphically it's not the greatest. Minor complaints for me though.

I have enjoyed several of the Trese Brothers' games, but this is by far my favorite. It has the feel of the old wing commander: Privateer game, but with way more career options and skill paths (and, admittedly, no dogfighting, but I don't really miss that.) I have installed it multiple times on my phone, and then later had to uninstall it for a while because it was so addicting it was keeping me from other stuff I was supposed to be doing. So, I guess there's that to beware of. :-)

One of the best games on the app store. I've been playing off and on for a while. Really fun exploring and getting into trouble. Difficulty kinda spikes when the aliens show up. Even on easy, I'd be rolling over the human enemies and getting owned by the aliens. I still dread running into them, but having some tough enemies isn't bad. It's been a while since this game came out, but as of this writing the devs are still updating it. Also, no IAPs or ads, just buy the game and play. That's rare.

I love this game and have played it, and the original star traders, for years. Controls are intuitive, artwork is well done, good storyline, and so on. So why is my rating 4 stars? One reason and, sadly, it's a biggie in my book. The game doesn't seem to save unlock progress. I got a new phone and, even after I logged into Google play, my previous unlock progress didn't seem to be saved. As such, I'm now stuck backtrack just to get some of my favorite content back. Good game, frustrating issue.

Played the original star traders a ton, so I was super excited when this was released, purchased almost instantly. However, the crew combat sequences really bother me, and I'm not even entirely sure why. it's almost like they feel too slow, and take me out of the immersion. it's difficult to pinpoint, but it's probably just preference. Overall this is a huge game, the depths of which cannot currently be matched by any other RPG on the platform.

After giving the game a second chance I found ways to deal with most of the issues I had. Xenos are still OP, especially in space combat, but now I am actually able to win against them. The two biggest drawbacks that persist are the small notification icons, they make it super hard to see what's going on in space, and lack of explanation in the game when it comes to some mechanics. I don't want to read a whole wiki just to play a game on my phone...

Great stadegy game. It has loads of things to do. Micro-manage to ship resources, personnel, battles, etc. Sometimes it seems you are doing the same thing over and over but you can change careers, buy permits, explore space and planets. Overall it's an awesome downtime game. You must be interested in this style or you will not like it long time. Finally a great buy without in-game purchases and time to upgrade games (There's none of it.) Great job and thanks!

Doesn't hold a candle to it's PC version. The UI is...they did their best I think. Certain aspects are just tough on the eyes and unintuitive. I started on mobile after hearing great things about this game. Switching to PC saved face for the game, before I about forgot about it permanently. Mobile makes a bit more sense now, but a better tutorial is needed.

Incredibly complex and fun dice-rolling, sci-fi RPG. Check out some guides before playing if you're unfamiliar with this type of game or if you get overwhelmed with the number of options/talents/jobs/etc. Once you get your first character going, everything starts to fall into place and things start clicking and churning. Lots of content here, and definitely a time killer when you're playing offline (I play on planes all the time).

Absolutely outstanding. Everything good about the original star traders plus better graphics, music, and sound. Story lines have been added with developed NPCs and plotlines. A great improvement on the original star traders in terms of gameplay mechanics as well, especially since escaping from the dreaded xeno is far easier. The major weakness of the game is the complexity. This isn't a beer and pretzels game and there is a largish amount of detail. I confess to almost turning off the game when I saw that I had to keep track of 30+ individual crew, with their own traits and skills and necessary training. If you want to enjoy this, you're going to need to spend some serious time with it. Even with this, though, it's a great ride if you're willing to put the time in to appreciate it.

Plenty of depth, and for once I'm actually enjoying the story of a mobile game. No IAPs, no real-life wait times, plenty to do and plenty of strategy and ship-building to keep you occupied for a while. EDIT: The ship combat is just unfairly imbalanced. No matter what skills my crew has, or what tactics I use during a fight, I'm always at a disadvantage. The enemy ship rarely misses, and my missiles in particular miss about 90% of the time. Losing to ships rated well below mine. Still fun though.

Honestly the game caught me off guard. There is a little bit of a learning curve if you want to play on the higher difficulties but outside of that u can wing it. You want to be a bounty hunter? Go for it. You want to explore planets hunting aliens for illegal artifacts? Do it. You want to trade rare goods through an established network of contacts. Sure thing. Story lines for each "chapter" are interesting too. Which is rare for space sandboxes.

It's got potential and annoyingly addictive.... But it's hard to get a hold of. For example, when the ship report says you have a "dominant" advantage over your opponent, that actually means you won't be able to hit them and cannot get away despite having a faster ship. The GUI could use some work, such as moving buttons to the side, rather than the bottom or middle of the screen to account for how you hold the phone during mobile games

Serious game mechanics for a mobile game, but you don't need to know them to enjoy the game. Depending on the difficulty you choose, it can be a brutal difficult roguelike, or a simple and fun story RPG. Many different strategies to try and perfect. My only complaint is that it seems like the difficulty levels are too wide, but perhaps that's what makes it so interesting.

I love this game so far. It's hard, but it's super fun! My only complaint right now is a glitch where after I loaded a past save file, all my character graphica disappeared and were replaces by shadow outlines. That's a bummer, as now I can't see anyone's faces, clothes, or weapons, which are all very well desogned. Hoping an update will fix this.

An absolutely fantastic upgrade from the original. As a player heavily focused on piracy and combat, the original lacked a lot to keep me engaged, though I still purchased it and the options, and enjoyed to a point. Been out of the loop for a few years with my gaming, but by random chance ManTheMaker's channel popped up on my recommended feed and showcased this game. Snagged it immediately and couldn't be more pleased with the game and the designers. Trese Bro's are legit as it gets.

Deep, polished, stat-y, and fun. The Trese Brothers truly care about the games they produce and this shows every step of the way in Star Traders: Frontiers. There is great replayability because there are many ways to play this game and do well. I have often found myself choosing to play this game rather than going on my PC. 100% worth the buy, and I recommend to anyone who loves RPGs and/or sci-fi.

General Verdict: Very good game. Pros: - Fairly steep learning curve, which I like because it keeps you engaged and challenged and provides rewarding breakthrough moments when you master a new aspect of the game. - Many different play styles and specialization paths. Cons: - Weak, repetitive end game. Once you have configured your ship and crew to a point where traveling space is relatively safe and your revenue stream is strong, there isn't anything else to do but hording wealth.
