First the upside, the books are brought to the small screen superbly. Gameplay is as good as the books which is all you can desire from such a game. I have a couple of negatives though. First loading games can be slow. Second, the screen can get itself in a mess if you accidentally rotate. But biggest gripe is with bookmarks. A great idea but how do you delete them? And how about an option to rename them so you know which one represents each stage of the quest.

Could've sworn I wrote this review this morning... Ah well. To summarise, this is great if you're a fan of Fighting Fantasy or adventure books. Yeah, you have to pay a small amount for each book but it's worth it. Presentation is fantastic, adding a few bells and whistles to the experience. Only two flaws: There's no rotation lock so the screen will randomly flip when you change reading position. And: When you die you're taken back to the library instead of a reload/restart/quit screen.

Great fun reliving this blast from the past. One word of advice though, either use bookmarks or free play. While playing book 5 I have found two places where I didn't have any of the items needed to continue, nor could I retrace a step to choose the other option. The first time I had to start from scratch which was annoying.

All the magic of the original Fighting Fantasy adventure game books, but with automatic inventory and dice-rolling. A very polished product, it features 11 of the original Jackson/Livingstone adventures plus the 'lost' book Bloodbones. The artwork uses the Puffin 'green stripe' covers, which will also appeal to many. Could only really be improve by adding further adventures (Steve Jackson's Sorcery! is not present, nor are the many hard-to-find books by other authors.)

*EDIT: Lost a star and deleted it when you increased the price for each book, that's too much for how short they are* The old books you can buy are great and this app handles them well! But the Bloodbones Book it comes with is TERRIBLE; it doesn't fit the style of the Jackson & Livingstone originals at all and is very poorly written & structured (it's even rife with spelling errors). You should change it so the player can CHOOSE which book they get free instead.

For your inner-hero-child. It's a superb adaptation of the physical books. The coloured images are well made. The map system could've been much better achieved, as it seems nothing like a proper map. There's no logic, no cardinal orientation. They're just a sequence of some of the steps you've had, with no spatial references.

An awesome app, and I'm really happy that it had all of the 5 books I owned as a kid: "Warlock of Firetop Mountain", "Island of the Lizard King", "Forest of Doom", "Deathtrap Dungeon", and "Freeway Fighter". Page turning can be a bit janky, as sometimes the page gets stuck and you can't always see everything on the next page, but the UI is intuitive and the interactive elements are really easy to use. Get the app and buy all the books! It's well worth it!

It's an excellent conversion that captures the charm of the gamebooks really well and makes it more accessible for newer people to play but unfortunately it's lacking in the number of books it has, which is a shame because there's a lot more titles that i wish i could play here like Sword of the Samurai, Talisman of Death, Dead of Night, Phantom of Fear etc. Though adding all of the books here would most likely be impossible, there's a lot more books that deserve to be here, so please add them.

Well made app, a few gripes however.. The Restart book button needs moving somewhere less obvious, twice now I've tapped abs ok'd thinking it was a resume button and restarted the book, losing all progress. The free book is garbage... instant death every other page and decision making is pointless, I can see how this would put newcomers off the genre. Extra books are a little pricey at £4 each. The adventure and notes sheet is very good, as is the automatic recording of gold etc used.

Very well thought out app that captures the feel of playing the books perfectly. Great mechanics and also a difficulty option to mimic the "thumb cheat". New books are reasonably priced, they are about half price of physical copies. Brilliant app, I wish it included the full library of FF, but it does have several of the best ones.

Old-fashioned cyoa game with interesting story and challenging puzzles but sometimes depends on knowing which item to take or where to go and in what order, well ahead of time. So you need to use bookmarks a lot and be ready to go back if things don't work out right. That can be tedious at times.

I just finished Bloodbones, the book that comes with the game. Lots of fun. Use a lot of bookmarks. The chapter graphics don't load half the time. This only affected gameplay on one graphic puzzle. Would have given 5 stars if graphics worked all the time. The graphics that loaded were excellent.

Loads rather slowly and the books are a bit too expensive by 1/2 ($1-2 not $1.99 thats just silly) but to buy original copies of the books would cost as much and the interface is a fun and easy way to enjoy the books...again that slow load time reallt bothers me and i can edit audio in real time so...yeah i dunno load times bother me. I would also make the arrow page and choice buttons larger. over all just too expensive and slow

Love it. Only complaint is it is unrealistic to fight opponents one at a time. For example if you're fighting three of them you fight the first one , if you beat him you move on to the second one Etc in real life you'd be fighting them all at the same time . But its no big deal. Otherwise it is the best text based rpg with stats Ive found.

It is just like the "choose your own adventures" books from back in the day. This hits all of the nostalgia feels, plus D&D style combat and fun. I am so excited to play this. I have probably gone through half of the possible outcomes so far. It's incredible. The first book available is definitely a great introduction to the series. 10/10 would recommend to any and all seeking for a great time passer and exciting narrative.

lts Pretty good. Decent collection of books here and at four dollars each the price is reasonable. It really is quite the collection too. The first book is completely free and its called Bloodbones. Bloodbones suffers from what some of these other books do, which is that it is overly complicated to win. You have to find all kinds of items or you would have to play it on cheat mode. The narrative is good but finishing the book is hard without cheating.

Same problem as a few others here - gets stuck on the loading screen with the yellow cog which goes on forever. I waited almost 10 minutes for it to load with no success. I'm not waiting that amount of time to play each time, even if it were to work. Shame, as I loved these books as a kid, good job I still have them because I can't play these...EDIT: finally got it to work! The price of each gamebook tends to fluctuate frustratingly over time & takes up a bit of space but is great fun on mobile.

Every modern gamer should try this. Nothing compare to reading. Most of the time, reading is always better than the movie..., same here. I do play modern game, a lot! Coming back to my roots and letting my self go in an imaginary world is a unique experience. Now, in the digital world, having the possibility to have multiple books in one portable device is amazing. The app run superbly. I wish it could function in horizontal mode. One major flaw, there is not enough books, more scifi needed. lol

Old FF Fan here who owns ALL the books... This is a brilliant idea whose time has come! I aspired to code this but your concept is much better. Big problem though: The graphics are extremely buggy on multiple high end devices. The advert showed my all time favorite, "Death Trap Dungeon". Why was this not available? Fix the graphical issues, make the other books available for purchase and it's any easy five stars.

BUY THIS, SUPPORT THE SERIES. After Google update fixed the App signatures bug, it started working on my devices. Very pleased with newest titles & waiting for more . i purchased some of the earlier individual apps of books, but they differ in format & play to justify repurchasing them in this current all in one App format. I would like an improvement for the GOBACK to be more than one page . For the MAP, have it match the book description directions instead of the current flow chart format.
