I use this app almost daily. I wish it was able (or I knew how) to make permanent settings to each podcast, like skipping to different starting times, etc. I enjoy this app, and I don't mind "buying a cup of coffee" occasionally to help out. 3/16/24: Almost 5 years later. I am still using this app. Occasionally, a small issue may come up. Getting help is quick and has always fixed my problem. I tried a couple of apps where my podcasts play ad-free. I came back to Podcast Republic both times.

This used to be one of the best, if not the best, android apps for podcasts. Unfortunately with the latest update, this is no longer the case. Areas that used to allow customizations no longer do, and have been replaced with unuseful tabs. For example, the Up Next and History buttons, two of the most useful tabs available from the main screen, are now multiple clicks away. The developer of the app confirmed this as intentional in the apps subreddit. Truly awful.

Podcast suddenly stopped working - no explanation. I press play, and it says "something went wrong" or "download will not play". I tried multiple downloads, and none played and gave a similar error message. The problem started with a particular download, which disappeared from the podcast program list a day after I encountered the problem 10 min in (this was Pod Save America, with Elizabeth Warren Feb. 18). I downloaded the app again, and tested one podcast, which seemed to work as expected.

I should have switched from Google Podcasts a long time ago. This is much better. There are lots of customization options. It's full of really great features that Google podcast should have added a long time ago but of course it's Google so it was half baked. *Edit: Thanks Dev for explaining. I was able to get tap controls to (mostly) work with Samsung ear buds. Great podcast app!

Edit: I feel really silly. I was too used to Google Podcasts. Thanks for the help! The app downloads podcasts fast, and searches quickly as well. But the interface is hopelessly difficult to navigate. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually. Right now, if I navigate to a playlist, I find myself having to close the app completely and reopen just to get back to my subscription feed. I'm a millennial; I shouldn't be having this much trouble. Lol

This is the best alternative for Google Podcasts. Some people might struggle with the more complicated controls but I have no complaints about it. The UI is very customizable, and it's compatible with Android dynamic theming (which matches the color scheme to my phone's wallpaper). This is part of why I chose Podcast Republic over similar apps. The radio feature is unexpected but cool! It even shows the station's schedule. Not yet sure whether it'll replace radio.garden for me.

Having used multiple apps to stream podcasts (most recently Google podcast before it was cancelled and Pandora which was terrible) and having been a podcast listener for many years, this app is well designed. It has many options to customize your listening experience. You can make playlists for routines if you listen to certain podcasts regularly. You can prioritize the podcasts. I am super happy to have found this app after Google podcasts went away.

Used to be the only podcast app that I liked. Now it's so buggy it's nearly unusable. - Streaming podcasts results in repeated sections and several minutes getting cut off the end of episodes - Selecting podcasts while browsing subscriptions sometimes just stops working, forcing users to kill the app and deamons in order to play something else - Podcast/episode art disappear randomly and won't reload Only worth 2 stars on a relative scale because so many other podcast apps are also bad.

DON'T UPGRADE!!! Just made that mistake and now the app won't open. Just crashes instantly! How much you want to bet I'll have to delete all data (already tried cache) and/or reinstall and lose ALL of my listening history and downloads! Glad I planned ahead and didn't get stuck while lot in Wifi coverage to recover, or not? UPDATE:. Sure enough, account only kept info up through 2020, so I lost all my playing history, subscriptions, etc, since then. Come on app developers - you can do better!

Podcast audio sometimes skips forward or backward in episode. I understand that this may be an issue on the Google/Android side. (This 4 stars, not 2.) If they find a way to fix this issue, app will get 5 stars. One other suggested improvement: default view upon opening the app should include the mini player bar at the bottom.

Used to be my only app for podcasts. Recent versions have random bugs like sudden duplicate entries in the list, subscription issues, playback speed sporadic, playlist anomalies, and many more - all requiring too much maintenance and fixing when I just need a reliable player to get through my podcasts. I'm not here to act as tester, QA, or first level tech support. Trying Podbean and PodcastGuru.

The app is good except for one major issue, streaming playback will sometimes skip forward or jump back a period of time unexpectedly. Sometimes it's 5 seconds, sometimes , 20+, two or three times it was a few minutes. I have seen some comments from the dev about changing settings but I didn't have success. I'm using the same feeds as I used with G Podcasts, and now using with another app without issue.

I downloaded this app last night, so this is just my preliminary review. I like how it's customizable, but streaming podcasts is quite janky (run times are incorrect, etc.). Downloads seem to function without issue. Descriptions either take a long time to load or don't load at all. I got this app because it's on play pass, so I don't know how it runs with presumably more ads involved. Needs some tweaking, but I'm forced to try out new podcast apps since google killed their podcast player.

I love that I can choose to stream or download, make my own playlist and order them automatically or manually. The basic settings are great, but can easily be customized in just about anyway to make it your experience. I also like that youtube channels/videos can be added. Occasional bugs pop up, but not killers and the app is well maintained and updated that these tend to get resolved. Wish there was a way (or that I was aware of how) to rate podcasts and get recommendations based on that.

Pretty good app overall, I love all the customizable settings, sometimes the podcast will backup a bit on its own, I've been using it for over a month now, the only two things I would like changed are 1. When using android auto I wish I could press the mute button on my radio to pause AND play, pause works but not play. Google podcasts used to do this and I loved it. 2. Give the ability to move the adds to the top of the screen to get it out of the way of my thumbs.

This is the one! I've tried a handful of apps since Google decided to sunset their's, and this one has it all. So why 3 stars, you ask, well I have one annoying issue. I usually stream instead of downloading, and every episode I stream, at some point it will randomly jump back between 1-4 minutes earlier in the podcast. Every time. And then, at the end of the podcast, it just cuts out and goes to the next episode the same amount of time it skipped back earlier.

crashes a lot when put phone away 2 listen and app is in the background. when return 2 running app screen is solid blue. looks like a crash. turned off battery optimization 4 app but not solved it other than that its pretty good. update may and june 2024. happening more. no update or fix appears to help. May 2nd-response U suggest is in my review. If it was easy I wouldn't have posted. doesn't seem to be a battery thing, at least not based on settings. gonna have 2 look elsewhere 4 other app

Has been my go-to catcher for years until the past several weeks. Used to work consistently. Now, it consistently errors out on ALL my podcasts from one particular genre, regardless author/ host. Kinda getting fed up with it now. I'll give it a few more weeks for the devs to get it together. I suspect there won't be any correction tho.

It is a great app. Especially if you don't mind hunting for RSS feed addresses and adding them manually. One bug I've noticed recently is that when I use the screen reader (holding up/down volume and selecting text on screen) podcast republic will start playing when the screen reader starts reading. If there's a fix, please let me know here.

Update: battery optimization is not the problem here. Instead of throwing out an arbitrary response, you could have asked for more info instead of treating me like an idiot. Down a star for that. Chromecast doesn't work properly. This app is buggy as hell and will shut down on you constantly for no reason. Don't even get me started on how asinine playlists are. I had to delete every other playlist to ensure the episodes would go where they should. All the settings were correct.
