This app has a lot of unique ideas, and I've chatted in it's clubs for a long time. They have taken a unique approach to group conversations that they keep making steps in the right direction for with each update. So why would I rate this a 3, with all it's nice features? Glitches. Frequent crashes, weird loading issues that make it a pain to scroll through threads, refreshing constantly at weird times, etc. It's core function is fine, the chats just need major bug fixing.

The app is still a bit unstable. The animations are not smooth, the loading speeds are quite slow and all. I wish the devs would add custom coloured accents for customisation. It would also be nice to edit the anime rating page to a bit more user friendly as the current one uses the while screen which looks a bit odd and big unnecessarily. Good luck and wish to the developers though

It's better in some ways than viewing the web site on mobile, though it lacks the compactness of it as well as not being able to see many of the detailed fields, such as tags and watch history. Also, I miss not being able to see the English titles like I can on the web. I'll use it to mainly update read LN volumes as I do that on an e-reader, but mostly stick to the web version on my laptop.

Good to finally see an official app, but I do miss quite a few features that the unofficial apps have. The main features I miss are: having your list being the first thing that the app opens to (since 9/10 times I'm just opening the app to update my watch status), the ability to see how many episodes of the series have aired already so I can make sure I'm up to date on my list updates, and a dark mode. A final thing I'd like to add is that I hope articles will be available in app in the future.

Very sleek and user friendly! This app is a decent start to something I've wanted forever, can't wait to see how this will evolve. For the time being I will still likely use the browser version for my phone until this app becomes more feature rich. Notable missing features: Sorting/filtering options for your lists. Top anime list. Anything manga related. And some riskier anime not showing up at all, with no nsfw togle. Keep an eye out for updates for this app, very promising.

Being able to update my list is easy enough, which is the primary convenience of the app but navigation and the UI overall still needs to be improved(why is the "RELATED" tab near the bottom of a show's page?). Heck, the homepage is STILL completely blank! Been a member of MAL for a long time, so I'm hoping things will improve. We'll see.

MAL really needs to update the interface for modern times. It feels like I'm still using an app that got released way back when I had my first Galaxy. Also would be greatly appreciated to be able to change the home screen to whatever the user would prefer. Also the fact that it leads to the web version for a lot of the links seems like a lazy step on the developers part. If it's just going to do that I'll just add the web version to the app drawer. Notifications need to be personalized.

The UI could definitely use a makeover. I'd like to be able to filter in the "Plan to Watch". Specifically I have a lot of things listed that haven't aired yet or don't currently have a release date. It makes finding new shows that are currently airing rather difficult. I also think it would be cool to have the option to automatically add shows to the "watching" list when they do start airing. I'd also note that none of the notifications take me to anything but the app homepage.

Better off using the website. You can't look at the top anime/manga on the app, your lists won't update if you add stuff to your list through the website, and you can't log out and right back in without any trouble. It took me 10 tries to log back into the app. You can't even sort your stuff in your lists as well, which is a huge missing feature. Absolute garbage.

I won't be too harsh with them. I have used multiple anime tracking apps, having an official MAL app is something I've been wanting for a while. There's room for improvement and they know it. It would be great if the topics in the home page opened in the app, rather than being redirected to the website. An easier and more user friendly tracking, with + - easier to access. When we click on a notification it would be great if the app went straight to it instead of having to refresh & search for it

As for those who keep up the forums, the app still misses a lot of features that the website is contains, and that is understandable. Although, some flaws I've come across are due to optimization: app crashing when scrolling down my list from either not not being able to quickly load my entirely list, or from switching between the "All Anime" and "Watching" categories. An additional minor thing is that the main homepage sometimes does not auto-update every time the app is opened again.

It's a huge improvement over what came before with great UI improvements that's ideal for navigating thru a smartphone screen. However there's one big caveat to all this in that there's a hardcoded filter that hides any title considered "NTFS", which sort of defeats the purpose of a list app in the first place. It's just feels odd to have this feature, much less not have at least the option to turn it off. It's not like you can read manga via MAL. Maybe because the covers can be risque?

Solid app, but it's more of a hassle to use the app than just go onto the browser version. "MAL" yet the listing functions seem to be on the back end of focus. It's incredibly tedious, when updating the list, to scroll down only 20 or so series and then have to wait for it to load more of the list in order to continue scrolling. A function the browser version doesnt do, it just loads the whole list when you load the page. There's more, and until updated it's just better to use the browser.

I downloaded the app thinking it would be cleaner and easier to navigate through than the website but it's basically the same if not worse. If you select a show or character while going through the list a VA does, and you go back to continue, you have to start all over again and scroll until you reach where you left off. I recommend this app be cleaned up to be easy to navigate through, less annoying to select things and go back and just to look better. The app itself looks messy imo

This app is really nice for tracking which anime I'm watching. It also let's you track manga series too-bonus! There's also places for people to have discussions about the series as well as the ability to rate and mark if you plan to watch, are watching, completed, or have dropped the series. It does have a couple kinks though. One of my biggest gripes is the inability to take notes. You can do this with Kitsu, so it's really annoying that I can't write why I dropped/like a series.

The app works well and the UI is great. There are a few missing features from the original site. I can't track manga and I can't press rewatch. I always have to open the website to do that. I won't raise the score to 5 stars until then. There is one feature I want, that was never on the original site. I like to rewatch anime overtime but don't like to flood my currently watching with rewatches. That's why I think Mal should copy tv time and have a system where you can mark rewatches for each ep.

App works fine, easy way to search and add to watch list when I get recommendations. Navigating through completed shows is impossible without English titles. Constant re-searching or scrolling for 10 minutes, staring at thumbnails. I can't remember all the English names either, but at least I recognize them in a list. Worthy of 4-5 stars with English titles. Without, it's just a notepad with search capabilities that becomes unusable after marking "complete," or your watch list gets too long.

It is difficult to navigate without the English titles of the anime. Plus, with the anime broken down by season, it added extra difficulty searching for each season without the English title. Had to uninstall, but I would love to reinstall if the titles were in English at the very least! (Would love to see the seasons combined into one show to rate, of course.)

The layout is better than desktop, but I can't read the foreign titles. There's no option to change the titles to my language. EDIT: I don't have time to click on hundreds, if not thousands, of titles to read them! That's stupid! EDIT: ads in the app are malicious. They're designed to keep my phone's back button hidden, but if I accidentally touch the ad it links to sites without my permission.

Meh. Could be better. Kind of like the website but a "lite" version. App takes you to the website if you want to make any significant changes to your profile. Can't view comments on profile, utilize the friends tab, etc. Search is functional, and the UI is fairly intuitive. It just needs an overhaul to be a legitimate competitor to the website.
